Abstract:Pediatric kidney transplantation (KT) is considered the standard and well-established renal replacement therapy for end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). [ 1 ] Patients who undergo pediatric KT show superior growth, improved neurocognitive development and academic performance, and improved quality of life compared with children treated with dialysis. [ 2 ] preemptive KT (PEKT) improves survival and quality of life compared with post-dialysis KT in children, [ 3 ] suggesting that PEKT is associated with a reduced risk of acute rejection (AR) and graft loss [ 4 ] ; however, PEKT has not been investigated in younger children.
