Abstract:Cancer remains the primary or secondary cause of premature mortality in most countries worldwide. Projections suggest that the incidence of all cancers combined will double by 2070 compared to 2020 if the latest incidence trends continue, due to demographic changes such as population aging and growth. [ 1 ] Consequently, there is an urgent need to enhance cancer diagnosis and treatment to improve survival rates and reduce mortality. Recent breakthroughs in sequencing technologies, including whole exome/genome sequencing and whole transcriptome sequencing, have significantly advanced our understanding of the genomics and transcriptomics of cancer. These advancements have not only deepened our insights into the complexities of the disease but have also paved the way for personalized healthcare approaches. Through these technologies, patients with specific characteristics, such as a distinct genetic profile, can now access tailored treatments. This personalized approach not only increases the likelihood of survival but also minimizes exposure to adverse effects. These developments represent a crucial step forward in the quest for more effective cancer management strategies.
