Abstract:The design and implementation of a micropositioner system based on GMA (giant magnetostrictive actuator) are present. Dynamic modeling and transfer function of the micropositioner are built up. The digital controller for milling a cutting workpiece with noncircular cross section is also discussed. Experiment and computer simulation show that VSC (variable structure control) method has more advantage than the PID control method for the micropositioner. Experiment data state that 2 mum precision in noncircular cutting could be attained by using the micropositioner to manipulate the tool position. Rapid response, accurate position and strong force make the magnetostrictive micropositioner would have prospective applications in noncircular machining fields.

Abstract:As the quick increase of the automatic requirement for the coupling processing lines,the automatic feeding and unloading 6-DOF 3P3R manipulator for coupling processing machine was designed.The kinematics and dynamics of the manipulator were analyzed,such as,operating performance and accurately motion control acquired.The Kane′s method and screw theory were applied to set up the kinematic and dynamic models,respectively.Then,in accordance with the models for the manipulator,and the structure of the prototype robot manipulator.The operating performance of the manipulator was studied in the mathematical environment.The orientation variation of the end-effectors and all joint driven torques of the system were obtained according to the planning motion.The result indicated that the correctness,simplicity and validity of the model is verified.Therefore,the dynamic requirements of the manipulator are satisfied with high dexterity.And this research established a foundation for trajectory planning and accurately motion control.

Abstract:This paper introduced a new type of cam mechanical hand,in which the plane cam grooves matched with a deflector rod mechanism to drive the manipulator to complete the lifting movement,globoid cam to drive the manipulator to complete the rotation movement,from which the two cam profile forming manipulator combined movement,based on the globoid cam mechanical motion characteristics,the motion of manipulator and circulation were studied,the position reletion between globoid cam and plane groove cam position was discussed,thus reducing the overall volume of such structure to solve the interference problem of the box body parts,improves the structure stability,to achieve high accuracy motion.

In this paper, a program for reversing the law of motion of the globular indexing cam mechanism is developed, which realizes the computer-aided design and computer-aided processing of the globular indexing cam, and expounds the method of solving the motion law of the driven disc with the idea of reverse design, using UG twice the development tool UG/Open API realizes the parametric modeling of the globular indexing cam, and introduces the process of using the UG software to process the globular indexing cam surface.

Abstract:A general design approach of giant magnetostrictive actuator (GMA) was proposed based on analysis of the characteristics of giant magnetostrictive material (GMM) and the working mechanism of GMA. Straightforward mathematical model was set up to determine the actuator's design parameters. The maximum output displacement of GMA was up to 36μm and its positioning accuracy was 0.1μm. The validity of this approach is proved by experiments.

Abstract:In order to improve the high-speed control capacity of an industrial robot and enlarge its applications in laser welding and cutting, a 3 degree-of-freedom micro mechanism for macro/micro manipulator was proposed. The micro mechanism structure was analyzed by comparing different kinds of moving forms. Kinematics equation was established, and mechanics characteristic was optimized. The micro mechanism is compact, weighting only 1 kg with a load capacity more than 3 kg and a precision higher than 0.04 mm, meeting the demand of high-precision manufacturing .

Abstract:One of the technology products that have taken an important place in our lives from the past to the present is power and motion transfer elements. Power and motion transfer elements are very important for users in terms of facilitating work transfer, easing the workload based on people and ergonomics. One of the basic building blocks of these transmission systems is cam mechanisms. Cam mechanisms consisting mainly of followers and cams; It performs a complementary task by transmitting the follower's movement to the cam assembly by direct contact. While cam mechanisms lighten the work load, it is a frequently preferred system because it takes up little space and contains few parts and allows for a wide range of movements. However, sensitivity to vibration and sudden shock effects and cost problems have led to the development of manufacturing methods of cam mechanisms. In this master's thesis, design and mathematical information about cam mechanisms and cylindrical cam mechanisms are given, and the design of a cylindrical cam mechanism with a vertical multiple output limb was carried out using computer-aided drawing programs Solidworks and Autocad. The use of multiple output limb cam mechanisms is increasing day by day in terms of the width of the work area and the possibility to work with other machines. For this reason, this work is intended to be a guide resource for the reader in industry and science for both cam mechanisms and cylindrical cam mechanisms. Microsoft Excel and Visual Basic programs were used in the calculations and designs, and the design details of the mechanism were revealed with the data and formulas entered into the program.

Abstract:Manipulators applied in daily life, like exoskeletons or humanoid robots, always require excellent comprehensive performance comparable to or even surpassing that of humans to deal with diverse tasks. However, it is quite challenging to achieve all the performance simultaneously. This article presents a design paradigm to enable manipulation systems with favorable comprehensive performance of high payload, repeatability, and bandwidth. A novel three-RRR coaxial spherical parallel mechanism was realized to achieve high payload and bandwidth. Structure optimization was conducted to improve the torque output performance and expand the workspace. High-performance actuators, known for their high torque and bandwidth, were designed to ensure a high upper bound of overall system performance. A linkage transmission mechanism with high stiffness was employed to ensure a high repeatability. The prototype designed under the paradigm featured human size and provided favorable performance of 10 kg payload with arm fully straight, repeatability within 0.5 mm, and 11.9 Hz for position control bandwidth.

Abstract:Purpose This paper aims to propose an elementary approach towards the measurement of a globoidal cam profile used in an automatic tool changer (ATC) of computer numerical control (CNC) machines. Design/methodology/approach A simple and unique online method has been designed for the profile metrology of the cam. This simple methodology will replace the traditional methodology of profile metrology of cam by coordinate measuring machine (CMM). A globoidal cam with an indexable turret and roller follower (rotating in an enclosed track) has been evaluated in our analysis. This analysis plays a significant role in the performance determination of the cam as well as the ATC of CNC machines. Findings A novel model has been designed and implemented to investigate the profile of a globoidal cam. The proposed methodology becomes an enhancement over the old methodology, i.e. measurement through CMM. Theoretical analysis and practical implementation prove the significance of the method. Originality/value An enhanced methodology to effectively measure the globoidal cam profile has been proposed. The practical implication of the proposed methodology remains for the CNC machine tool and ATC manufacturers. Finally, analytical explorations have been carried out to prove the validity of the proposal.

Abstract:This paper addresses the development of an internet-based interactive globoidal indexing design system and methods. We adopt a client/server architecture. The developed system uses Java as the programming language, Java3D as the graphics API and XML as the information exchange file format so as to provide the flexibility of interoperability on a variety of operating platforms. The system embeds the cam shape data of the B-spline model into the XML file. This enhances the profile representation of a cam, yet keeps the representation compact. The interactive cam optimization design methodology is integrated. The prototype system indicates that the system can serve as the effective tool for designing globoidal indexing cam mechanism with the better properties of interaction and expansion.

Abstract:The conjugate cam mechanism with translating flat-faced pushrod follower is taken as the research object,the accurate description of these mechanism synthesis tasks are concluded.By adopting the concepts of'mobile number axis' and ruling the angle direction of the main and the sub flat,revealing the existence of r0/r0'value range,the conjugate cam mechanism flat working section and the minimum macro-sized Dmin*,(Dmin)min,then a list of important conclusions are acquired.Deepening the cognition to conjugate cam mechanism and solving the dimension synthesis of the conjugate cam mechanism with translating flat-faced pushrod follower satisfactorily.

Recent Patents on Mechanical Engineering

Abstract:Background: At present, due to the widespread use of robotic arms for the automatic loading and unloading of CNC gear milling machines, there has been an increase in patents related to robotic arms. However, these robotic arms have issues of low efficiency and large space occupation. To solve these problems, a CNC gear milling machine with an automatic loading and unloading manipulator device needs to be designed. Method: This paper first designs the overall scheme of the automatic loading and unloading manipulator, and then uses Solidworks to establish a three-dimensional model. Finite element analysis software is used to analyze and simulate the deformation, stress distribution, and service life of the key components in the overall device. Finally, a prototype of the robotic arm is created based on the simulation optimization results. Result: This paper designs a new type of automatic loading and unloading manipulator device for CNC gear milling machines, which is different from existing patents in that all its components are installed inside the machine tool protective cover. In production experiments, the operation was found to be stable and reliable, and the loading and unloading process was completed at a speed of 11s/time, consistently exceeding the manual maximum speed of 19s/time. The results indicate that the proposed clamp storage system and core rod perforation feeding method are effective. Conclusion: The new design solves the problems of low efficiency and large space occupation in existing robotic arm patents.

Abstract:This paper proposes a multi-layer compliant XY nanomanipulator. Aiming at achieving a large stroke and compact desktop-size, a spatial redundant constraint module in two layers is proposed to restrict parasitic rotations. In addition, a combined Z-shaped beam and multi-beam flexure module is proposed to realize load bearing, and a double parallelogram beam flexure module is utilized to achieve kinematic decoupling. Within the designed stroke, the stiffness of the manipulator behaves linearly. Numerous FEA simulations are conducted to show that the proposed manipulator is able to achieve ±2 × 2 mm 2 operation range, and a good agreement between the theoretical analysis and numerical results.

Abstract:Gear mechanism transmits the motion and power of parallel axes, intersecting axes and staggered axes, which has been widely employed in production and life. Gear-type mobile mechanism is a type of robot that can achieve motion through gear transmission. Due to its unique motion mode, it can handle various tasks in certain unconventional environments, such as particularly steep surfaces. Cylindrical gear, bevel gear and non-cylindrical gear are taken as the main parts of the mechanism to form a novel research series, respectively. The models of gear-type mobile mechanism are established in this paper, and the degrees of freedom of the mechanism are briefly calculated based on the screw theory. Simultaneously, the influence of centroid trajectory on motion stability is discussed to solve the possible problem that opposite rotation occur during the movement. Furthermore, the trajectory model of zero moment point is calculated considering the motion of the gear-type mobile mechanism. After that, the simulation and experimental analysis of its motion capability show that the gear-type mobile mechanism has excellent characteristics in stability, flexibility and continuity.

Abstract:The size of the oil pipes in the factory is relatively large, making them inconvenient to handle. There are few existing oil pipe handling devices, and a 2P2R four degree of freedom manipulator device has been innovatively designed to complete the oil pipe handling work. First, the three-dimensional model of the manipulator was established using SolidWorks software, and then the improved D-H method was used to carry out the kinematics modeling of the manipulator system, and the forward and Inverse kinematics equations were derived. Then, the MATLAB software was used to carry out the kinematics analysis of the manipulator, and the manipulator workspace was calculated. The movement trajectory, as well as the displacement, speed, and acceleration curves under the trajectory were obtained using the fifth order Polynomial interpolation method, Finally, the 3D model was imported into Adams software, and an Adams virtual prototype was established for dynamic analysis. The force and torque curves of each joint were obtained, laying the foundation for further design and research in the future.

Abstract:This article presents the design of a new XY compliant parallel manipulator, which features a deployable spatial configuration and monolithic structure. Inspired by the deployable mechanism, the manipulator is devised based on a four-prismatic–prismatic parallel mechanism by considering the manufacturability and functionality of the monolithic structure. Analytical models are established based on the compliance matrix method, pseudorigid-body model, and Lagrangian equations to calculate the driving stiffness and resonant frequency. After determining the structural parameters, a finite-element analysis simulation study has been conducted to verify the derived analytical models and to compare the performances of XY stages with planar and spatial configurations. Moreover, a prototype of the XY manipulator is fabricated, and experimental tests are performed to assess its open-loop and closed-loop performances. The results reveal that the developed monolithic XY manipulator has relatively balanced performances of planar size, working stroke, area ratio, parasitic coupling, and static vertical loading.

Abstract:A type of 3-PTT CNC serial-parallel manipulator with 5-DOF was designed based on comprehensive analysis of the advantages of serial and parallel which characteristics for complex surface processing. The configuration and degrees of freedom was analyzed by using decomposition and synthesis. The analysis and calculations show that the 3-PTT manipulator can satisfy the design needs of CNC serial-parallel machine and the configuration is reasonable. The working space and posture limit of manipulator was analyzed based on the singular constraints and posture factors in Matlab. Simulation results show that the analysis can reflect the complete working space of 3-PTT CNC serial-parallel machine tools and provide a theoretical basis for automatic control of working process.
