Journal of Drug Delivery Science and Technology
Abstract:This review article explores the advancements in ibuprofen (IBU) drug delivery systems, focusing on nanotechnology-based platforms. The review examines various nanostructures, including solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs), carbon-based nano carriers, and graphene oxide frameworks, for their potential to enhance drug dissolution, stability, and targeted delivery. Key highlights include the formulation and optimization of IBU-loaded SLNs, which have shown promising outcomes in rectal applications. Novel approaches like IBU-cellulose nanofibril composites and IBU arginine formulation are discussed as strategies to mitigate NSAID-associated risks and broaden therapeutic applications, potentially even in cancer therapy. Comparative analyses across various nanostructured carriers provide insights into their suitability for different medical applications. The review highlights the significant strides made in drug delivery systems for IBU but acknowledges challenges in clinical translation and scalability. Prospects involve a more integrated approach involving biomimetic strategies and patient-centric designs.
