Abstract:This is a translation from Russian of the article by <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://A.A.Vinogradov" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>: On the free product of ordered groups, Mat. Sb. (N.S.), 1949, Volume 25(67), Number 1, 163-168. The main result is that the free product of two ordered groups is orderable. Minor corrections were made and highlighted in footnotes.

Abstract:We introduce general translations as solutions to Cauchy or Dirichlet problems. This point of view allows us to handle the heat-diffusion semigroup as a translation. With the given examples Kolmogorov-Riesz characterization of compact sets in certain $L^p_\mu$ spaces are given. Pego-type characterizations are also derived. Finally for some examples the equivalence of the corresponding modulus of smoothness and K-functional is pointed out.

The typography is unusually good, and is very creditable to all concerned, such symbols as the square of a1, or even of a′, being printed in a satisfactory way, which English printers might imitate with advantage. There are a few terms here and there which are ungrateful to an English ear; “involutionary” or “involutional” would be more agreeable to analogy than “involutory,” and “nappe” is retained instead of being rendered by “sheet.” But these are trifles, and those of us who have no French can now study a treatise which is eminently lucid and attractive, as well as being up to date and sufficiently rigorous for the purpose it is designed to fulfil.

On Gevrey Asymptotics for Linear Singularly Perturbed Equations with Linear Fractional Transforms

Abstract:A family of linear singularly perturbed Cauchy problems is studied. The equations defining the problem combine both partial differential operators together with the action of linear fractional transforms. The exotic geometry of the problem in the Borel plane, involving both sectorial regions and strip-like sets, gives rise to asymptotic results relating the analytic solution and the formal one through Gevrey asymptotic expansions. The main results lean on the appearance of domains in the complex plane which remain intimately related to Lambert W function, which turns out to be crucial in the construction of the analytic solutions. On the way, an accurate description of the deformation of the integration paths defining the analytic solutions and the knowledge of Lambert W function are needed in order to provide the asymptotic behavior of the solution near the origin, regarding the perturbation parameter. Such deformation varies depending on the analytic solution considered, which lies in two families with different geometric features.

Abstract:We show how the approach of Yosida approximation of the derivative serves to obtain new results for evolution systems. Using this method we obtain multivalued time dependent perturbation results. Additionally, translation invariant subspaces $Y$ of the bounded and uniformly continuous functions are considered, to obtain criteria for the existence of solutions $u\in Y$ to the equation $$ u^{\prime}(t)\in A(t)u(t)+ \om u(t) + f(t), t\in \re, $$ or of solutions $u$ asymptotically close to $Y$ for the inhomogeneous differential equation \begin{eqnarray*} u^{\prime}(t)&\in& A(t)u(t) + \om u(t) + f(t), \ \ t > 0, u(0)&=&u_0, \end{eqnarray*} in general Banach spaces, where $A(t)$ denotes a possibly nonlinear time dependent dissipative operator. Particular examples for the space $Y$ are spaces of functions with various almost periodicity properties and more general types of asymptotic behavior. Further, an application to functional differential equations is given.

Abstract:International Journal of Number Theory, Ahead of Print. Let [math] be a [math]-adic Lie group with reductive Lie algebra [math]. In analogy to the translation functors introduced by Bernstein and Gelfand on the categories of [math]-modules, we consider similarly defined functors on the category of modules over the locally analytic distribution algebra [math] on which the center of [math] acts locally finitely. These functors induce equivalences between certain subcategories of the latter category. Furthermore, these translation functors are naturally related to those on category [math] via the functors from category [math] to the category of coadmissible modules. We also investigate the effect of the translation functors on locally analytic representations [math]la associated by the [math]-adic Langlands correspondence for [math] to two-dimensional Galois representations [math].

Abstract:The thesis was defended by the author in University of Angers (France). It consists of four parts. The fist part (in French) is introductory and is devoted to relation between quantum groups, integrable systems and statistical models. In the second part (in English) the transition function of the periodic Toda chain is interpreted in terms of the formalism of rational Lax operators. In the third part (in French) one compares two elliptic quantum groups and one conclude that they belong to two different bialgebra categories. The fourth part (in English) contains a construction of the partition function of the SOS model in terms of the projections of an elliptic quantum group.

Abstract:We consider a non-self-adjoint Schrödinger operator on the unit interval with Dirichlet conditions perturbed by an operator of small translation. The main result is a three-term asymptotic expansion for the eigenvalues with respect to their index, and this asymptotics is uniform in the small translation. We also show that the system of eigenfunctions and generalized eigenfunctions of the considered operators forms a Bari basis in the space of square integrable functions on the considered unit interval.

We show that in a rather general case, the corresponding asymptotic Fubini-Study operator yields a one-to-one correspondence between equivalence classes of bounded graded norms and bounded plurisubharmonic metrics that are regularizable from below. This generalizes results of Boucksom-Jonsson where this problem has been studied in the trivially valued case.

Abstract:Motivated by the work of Leininger on hyperbolic equivalence of homotopy classes of closed curves on surfaces, we investigate a similar phenomenon for free groups. Namely, we study the situation when two elements $g,h$ in a free group $F$ have the property that for every free isometric action of $F$ on an $\mathbb{R}$-tree $X$ the translation lengths of $g$ and $h$ on $X$ are equal. We give a combinatorial characterization of this phenomenon, called translation equivalence, in terms of Whitehead graphs and exhibit two difference sources of it. The first source of translation equivalence comes from representation theory and $SL_2$ trace identities. The second source comes from geometric properties of groups acting on real trees and a certain power redistribution trick. We also analyze to what extent these are applicable to the tree actions of surface groups that occur in the Thurston compactification of the Teichmuller space.

Abstract:We present a natural language modelization method which is strongely relying on mathematics. This method, called "Formal Semantics," has been initiated by the American linguist Richard M. Montague in the 1970's. It uses mathematical tools such as formal languages and grammars, first-order logic, type theory and $\lambda$-calculus. Our goal is to have the reader discover both Montagovian formal semantics and the mathematical tools that he used in his method. ----- Nous présentons une méthode de modélisation de la langue naturelle qui est fortement basée sur les mathématiques. Cette méthode, appelée «sémantique formelle», a été initiée par le linguiste américain Richard M. Montague dans les années 1970. Elle utilise des outils mathématiques tels que les langages et grammaires formels, la logique du 1er ordre, la théorie de types et le $\lambda$-calcul. Nous nous proposons de faire découvrir au lecteur tant la sémantique formelle de Montague que les outils mathématiques dont il s'est servi.

Abstract:Dans cette these on s'attache a etudier les crochets de Rankin-Cohen et les deformations correspondantes selon de differents points de vue. On presente d'un cote une nouvelle interpretation des deformations de Rankin-Cohen via la theorie de Quantification par Deformations de Fedosov(en collaboration avec P. Bieliavsky et X. Tang). On parvient notamment a redemontrer un theoreme de Connes-Moscovici sur la deformation formelle des algebres sous l'action d'une algebre de Hopf H1 munie d'une structure projective. De l'autre cote on donne dans Chapitre III une interpretation detaillee des crochets de Rankin-Cohen via la theorie de representations unitaires de SL2(R) et en utilisant cette interpretation on etudie certaines proprietes des produits deformes, notamment l'unicite des produits construits par Cohen-Manin-Zagier et une propriete de separation du produit d'Eholzer. Dans le dernier chapitre on donne une demonstration elementaire de l'identite combinatoire qui est cruciale pour demontrer l'associativite dans l'approche de la question de deformations par Cohen-Manin-Zagier, Eholzer, et Connes-Moscovici.

Abstract:In this two-part series of articles, we present a new proof comparing the trace formula for a general linear group with that of one of its inner forms. Our methodology relies on the trace formula for Lie algebras, incorporating the notion of non-invariant transfer of test functions. In the appendix A, we provide a description of conjugacy classes of an inner form of a general linear group. In the appendix B, we provide explicit computations of Haar measures. This article focuses on the geometric side of the trace formula.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a locally compact group. We examine the problem of determining when nonzero functions in $L^2(G)$ have linearly independent translations. In particular, we establish some results for the case when $G$ has an irreducible, square integrable, unitary representation. We apply these results to the special cases of the affine group, the shearlet group and the Weyl-Heisenberg group. We also investigate the case when $G$ has an abelian, closed subgroup of finite index.

Abstract:We study translation preserving operators, that is operators commuting with translations by a closed subgroup of a locally compact abelian group. We show that there is a one-to-one correspondence between these operators and range operators. Furthermore, we obtain a necessary condition for a translation preserving operator to be Hilbert–Schmidt or of finite trace in terms of its range operator. The last result is proved in the case that the subgroup is discrete or compact.
