Abstract:The present study shows that the sono-chemically synthesis of SnFe2O4/BiFeO3 nanocomposites for the photocatalytic performance. The crystal structure of SnFe2O4/BiFeO3 nanocomposites evaluated using XRD analysis. The micrograph images displays the support of SnFe2O4 on BiFeO3. The optical status were examined using UV-Vis spectroscopy and the narrower band gap (1.67 eV) was determined for SnFe2O4/BiFeO3 nanocomposites. The photocatalytic amount of SnFe2O4/BiFeO3 nanocomposites was higher than the pristine SnFe2O4 or BiFeO3 nanoparticles. The photocatalytic degradation was mainly performed by OH· radical. The malachite green dye was completely degraded (100%) by using the SnFe2O4-BiFeO3 nanocomposites in 60 min under visible light irradiation. The antibacterial activity of SnFe2O4/BiFeO3 nanocomposites was conducted against Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis bacteria. The doxorubicin as an anticancer drug was loaded on SnFe2O4/BiFeO3 nanocomposites. The cell viability of the human liver cancer cell was performed by using doxorubicin/SnFe2O4/BiFeO3/folic acid. The potential properties shows that the usage of SnFe2O4/BiFeO3 nanocomposites in environmental treatment, antibacterial, and drug delivery applications.

Abstract:This study focuses on developing and evaluating eco-friendly nanoparticles, specifically FexOy NPs, ZnO NPs, and a ZnFe2O4 nanocomposite (NC), for potential applications in environmental remediation and biomedicine. The nanoparticles were synthesized and characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), which revealed their crystalline structures with sizes of 20.3 nm for FexOy NPs, 22.1 nm for ZnO NPs, and 10.9 nm for ZnFe2O4 NC. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy identified functional groups, while UV-visible spectroscopy determined band gap energies of 2.35 eV, 3.38 eV, and 2.68 eV for FexOy NPs, ZnO NPs, and ZnFe2O4 NC, respectively. Morphological analysis via scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed that FexOy NPs have cubic, hexagonal, and tetragonal forms, ZnO NPs are hexagonal nanorods, and ZnFe2O4 NC has a hexagonal-faced cubic structure. Antioxidant activity, assessed through the DPPH assay, revealed that ZnFe2O4 NC had the highest potency. Additionally, under sunlight irradiation, ZnFe2O4 NC demonstrated superior degradation of the antibiotic cephalexin (96 % within 30 min) compared to FexOy NPs (58.2 %) and ZnO NPs (52 %), with respective kinetic rate constants of 0.109 min-1, 0.029 min-1, and 0.025 min-1. These results highlight the nanoparticles' potential for environmental and biomedical applications.

Abstract:Recently, metal and metal oxide nanoparticles have garnered significant scientific interest due to their distinctive properties and promising applications across diverse fields. This study details the successful synthesis and characterization of Fe 3 O 4 , Ag, and magnetite/silver core-shell (Fe 3 O 4 /Ag) nanocomposites, prepared through chemical reduction and co-precipitation methods. The successful incorporation of Ag into Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles was confirmed through X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Physical characterization revealed that the synthesized nanoparticles were small in size and highly pure. Their optical and electrical properties, including bandgap and electrical conductivity, were also characterized. The antibacterial activity of the synthesized Fe 3 O 4 , Ag, and Fe 3 O 4 /Ag nanoparticles was evaluated using Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) against pathogenic bacterial strains: S. typhimurium , P. aeruginosa , and S. aureus . The results demonstrated that Ag, Fe 3 O 4, and Fe 3 O 4 /Ag nanoparticles could inhibit high concentrations of bacteria, indicating an excellent antimicrobial effect. Furthermore, the Fe 3 O 4 /Ag nanoparticles were found to be more effective than both Fe 3 O 4 and Ag nanoparticles in inhibiting the selected pathogenic bacteria strains: S. typhimurium , P. aeruginosa , and S. aureus.

Abstract:Background: Iron oxide nanocomposites have received a great attention for their application in various fields like physics, medicine, biology, and material science etc., due to their unique properties, such as magnetism, electrical properties, small size, biocompatibility and low toxicity. Methods: Fe3O4/Ag3PO4@WO3 nanocomposites with different weight percent of Ag3PO4 were successfully prepared through fabricated Ag3PO4/Fe3O4 with WO3 via in situ fabrication method, electrospinning involved precursor solution preparation and spinning to enhance photocatalyst performance under simulated sunlight for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) and antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). Results: The photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) under simulated light irradiation indicated that the nanocomposite with 0.25 mg of Ag3PO4 has the best activity. An additional advantage of these photocatalysts is magnetic recoverability, using external magnetic field and photocatalytic stability of the nanocomposites was evaluated for three cycles. In addition, using different scavengers, holes (h+) and superoxide radical (O 2 ·-) radicals and hydroxide radical (·OH) were identified the main oxidative species in the degradation reaction of methylene blue. Conclusions: The results reveal that Fe3O4/Ag3PO4@WO3-0.25 nanocomposites have photocatalytic and antibacterial activity against S. aureus. The photocatalyst and mechanism based on the enhancement of electron transfer processes between Ag3PO4 and WO3 nanoparticles.
Photocatalytic degradation of antibiotics by N-doped carbon nanoflakes-nickel ferrite composite derived from algal biomass

Abstract:This work reports the synthesis of nickel ferrite (NiFe) nanoparticles, N-doped mesoporous carbon nanoflakes (NCF) and novel nickel ferrite-carbon nanoflakes (NiFe@NCF) nanocomposite using solvothermal method. NCF was derived from a cyanobacterial consortium consisting of Anabaena, Lyngbya and Weistiellopsis, rich in carbon and nitrogen. The synthesized nanoparticles were used as heterogeneous photocatalyst for degradation of two harmful water pollutants, ciprofloxacin (CIP) and levofloxacin (LEV). 99.91% LEV and 98.86% CIP were degraded within 50 and 70 min of visible light irradiation using NiFe@NCF following pseudo first order kinetics. This improved efficiency of the nanocomposite may be attributed to its higher surface area, reduction of band gap (from 2.42 to 2.19 eV), more active sites as well as charge carrier mobility with decreasing agglomeration tendency of the magnetic nickel nanoparticles upon being embedded on NCF. N-doping improves light harvesting property, retards charge recombination and extends as well as delocalises ᴨ-conjugated system resulting in enhanced photocatalytic activity. The scavenging experiments and EPR analysis reveal that O2-• and •OH are the main active species taking part in the degradation process. The material performs well within a wide range of pH and can be effectively used up to 5 repetitive cycles. A feasible photocatalytic degradation mechanism of the antibiotics against NiFe@NCF nanocomposite is also put forwarded along with their possible degradation pathways from LCMS studies.

Abstract:Water contamination by multiple pollutants is a serious environmental issue originating from the many diverse sources of pollution. It has worsened with the appearance of new contaminants, named emerging micropollutants, such as drug residues which are considered a potential threat to human health and/or ecosystems. These require prior treatment before release into the environment. Simultaneous adsorption and photocatalysis as well as solid-liquid separation are promising technologies for water treatment. In order to obtain low cost photoactive nanocomposites, porous and magnetic Fe 3 O 4 -hydroxyapatite (wFeHAp) nanocomposites were prepared by soft chemistry from the dissociation of natural phosphate into Ca 2+ and H 3 PO 4 precursors, further neutralized by ammonia in the presence of preformed Fe 3 O 4 particles. The magnetic nanocomposites were characterized and examined as effective antibacterial agents. Fe 3 O 4 association with apatite modifies the surface properties of the wFeHAp nanocomposite materials, yielding efficient antimicrobial activity for S. aureus, B. subtilis, E. coli and K. pneumoniae strains. The photocatalytic removal of ciprofloxacin (CPF) and oxytetracyclin (OXT) antibiotics in water was also evaluated. The wFeHAp nanocomposites adsorbed and degraded the selected antibiotics successfully. Toxicity evaluation of the treated water after photodegradation using the four strains demonstrates the absence of toxic by-products at the end of the reaction. Therefore, Fe 3 O 4 @HAp nanoparticles are valuable for antimicrobial and photocatalysis applications.

Abstract:A photocatalytic system for decolorization of double azo reactive black 5 (RB5) dye and water disinfection of E. coli was developed. Sol gel method was employed for the synthesis of Fe-TiO2 photocatalysts and were characterized using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analysis. Results showed that photocatalytic efficiency was greatly influenced by 0.1 weight percent iron loading and 300 °C calcination temperature. The optimized reaction parameters were found to be the ambient temperature, working solution pH 6.2 and 1 mg g−1 dose to completely decolorize RB5. The isotherm studies showed that RB5 adsorption by Fe-TiO2 followed the Langmuir isotherm with maximum adsorption capacity of 42.7 mg g−1 and Kads 0.0079 L mg−1. Under illumination, the modified photocatalytic material had higher decolorization efficiency as compared to unmodified photocatalyst. Kinetic studies of the modified material under visible light irradiation indicated the reaction followed the pseudo-first-order kinetics. The illumination reaction followed the Langmuir-Hinshelwood (L-H) model as the rate of dye decolorization increased with an incremental increase in dye concentration. The L-H constant Kc was 1.5542 mg L–1∙h–1 while Kads was found 0.1317 L mg–1. The best photocatalyst showed prominent percent reduction of E. coli in 120 min. Finally, 0.1Fe-TiO2-300 could be an efficient photocatalyst and can provide a composite solution for RB5 decolorization and bacterial strain inhibition.

Abstract:During the last few decades the field of nanotechnology has witnessed tremendous amounts of research on inorganic metal oxide nanoparticles. The magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles have attracted lots of attention due to its unique properties and very wide field of applications. In this regard, present investigation represents a non toxic eco-friendly low cost method for the fabrication of iron oxide nanoparticles. The structural and morphological analyses of fabricated nanoparticles were performed by using some standard analytical procedures like X-Ray diffraction, Scanning electron microscope, UV visible spectroscopy and IR spectroscopy. The X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that the fabricated nanoparticles are crystalline in nature and have 20 nm average particle sizes. The Proposed manuscript highlights the antibacterial antioxidant and photocatalytic activity of the fabricated nanoparticles. The fabricated nanoparticles show significant antibacterial, antioxidant and photocatalytic activity.

Abstract:The objective of this study was to investigate the rhombohedral-structured, flower-like iron oxide (Fe2O3) nanoparticles that were produced using a cost-effective and environmentally friendly coprecipitation process. The structural and morphological characteristics of the synthesized Fe2O3 nanoparticles were analyzed using XRD, UV-Vis, FTIR, SEM, EDX, TEM, and HR-TEM techniques. Furthermore, the cytotoxic effects of Fe2O3 nanoparticles on MCF-7 and HEK-293 cells were evaluated using in vitro cell viability assays, while the antibacterial activity of the nanoparticles against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Klebsiella pneumoniae) was also tested. The results of our study demonstrated the potential cytotoxic activity of Fe2O3 nanoparticles toward MCF-7 and HEK-293 cell lines. The antioxidant potential of Fe2O3 nanoparticles was evidenced by the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazine (DPPH) and nitric oxide (NO) free radical scavenging assays. In addition, we suggested that Fe2O3 nanoparticles could be used in various antibacterial applications to prevent the spread of different bacterial strains. Based on these findings, we concluded that Fe2O3 nanoparticles have great potential for use in pharmaceutical and biological applications. The effective biocatalytic activity of Fe2O3 nanoparticles recommends its use as one of the best drug treatments for future views against cancer cells, and it is, therefore, recommended for both in vitro and in vivo in the biomedical field.

Abstract:Here we report, the synthesis of a novel Fe doped MoS2/BiVO4 (Fe@MoS2/BiVO4) magnetic heterostructure composites by sonication-assisted hydrothermal method. The as-prepared composites were characterized by XRD, SEM, EDX, FTIR, XPS, BET, PL, and EPR techniques for crystal structures, morphology, surficial chemical properties, photocatalysis and antimicrobial properties. For photocatalysis, Fe@MoS2/BiVO4 p-n heterojunction was applied against methylene blue dye in the visible light range and superior degradation was achieved. The photocatalytic degradation and involved mechanism were also confirmed by the scavenger and total organic test (TOC). The incorporation of composite materials was realized to reduce the bandgap energy and this reduction may facilitate the ability to absorb more energy in the visible light spectrum. The enhanced photocatalytic ac-tivity of Fe@MoS2/BiVO4 could be attributed to a large carrier lifetime, appropriate energy bandgap that is built in by p-n heterojunction of MoS2 and BiVO4 inhibited the recombination of charge-carriers owed to the syner-gistic effect of Fe@MoS2/BiVO4. The antimicrobial investigation of 1 wt% Fe@MoS2/BiVO4 was studied against Escherichia coli (E. coli), and it exhibited well antimicrobial response. Based on these findings, the photocatalytic mechanism, the p-n junction formation mechanism of Fe-doped MoS2/BiVO4, and possible antimicrobial mechanisms are proposed.

Abstract:Nanomaterials have demonstrated a wide range of applications and amongst nanomaterials, most of the research has mainly focused on nanoparticles as they can be easily prepared and manipulated. The magnetic properties of certain magnetic nanoparticles have attracted a lot of interest in environmental applications. However, because of their great vulnerability to chemical and physical activity, their magnetic characteristics deteriorate. These nanoparticles are being progressively attempted to be encapsulated by a green organic matrix, which greatly improves usefulness, stability, and affordability, and reduces back toxicity. In this investigation, iron oxide (IO) nanoparticles were prepared by a co-precipitation method and these bear IO particles were stabilized by green synthesized silver nanoparticles to produce IO/Ag nanocomposite particles. The nano size of the prepared particles was confirmed by FE-SEM and TEM analysis. Incorporation of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) on IO particles was confirmed by UV-Vis, XRD, TGA, and VSM. The improved stability of the magnetic particles was confirmed by DLS and zeta potential. Using the reducing agent NaBH 4 , the catalytic reduction ability of the IO/Ag nanocomposite particles is investigated in relation to the degradation of Congo Red, a model anionic azo dye. When 40 μg mL −1 of IO/Ag particles were used, complete degradation of 20 mL of CR (0.1 mM) dye solution was accomplished in 2 minutes. The particles also demonstrated moderate antibacterial activity against four pathogens and good DPPH free radical scavenging activity, with 94% scavenging recorded at a concentration of 100 μg mL −1 particles.

Abstract:Iron oxide nanoparticles have found wide applications in different fields of biomedicine and advanced catalytic applications. Several studies have suggested using iron oxide nanoparticle (Fe 2 O 3 -NPs) be a potential candidate for antibacterial activity assessment. Iron oxide nanoparticles, apart from being available extensively and cheap, also plays a vital part in multiple biological processes, making it an interesting choice of selection. The aim of the present study revolves around synthesis and characterization of iron oxide Fe 2 O 3 -NPs, followed by assessment of its antimicrobial activities and its catalytic behaviour. Synthesis of Fe 2 O 3 -NPs was performed by co-precipitation approach, and commercial iron oxide samples were studied for the comparison. The silver nanoparticles were also doped to the iron oxide nanoparticles and studied for the synergic effect. The samples characterization was done by UV-visible, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with EDS and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman Spectroscopy (RAMAN). Antimicrobial activity was checked by agar diffusion assay against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. The electrode performance of the iron oxide samples was done by cyclic voltammetry to explore their application in the energy storage and sensor.

Abstract:The nickel ferrite nanoparticles (NFO) doped with divalent metal ions (Ni 1 − x M x Fe 2 O 4 , x = 0.0, 0.02, 0.09 and M = Mg 2+ , Ca 2+ , Mn 2+ , Zn 2+ ) were prepared by co-precipitation method and analyzed for their structural, optical, functional group and morphological characterizations. Samples thus prepared were used as a photocatalyst to remove Rhodamine B (RhB) dye from wastewater under sunlight illumination using batch adsorption technique. Doping of NFO led to an increase in dye degradation efficiency. The highest photocatalytic degradation efficiency was obtained for doped NFO NPs (x = 0.02, M = Mn 2+ ) nanoparticles (83%) at a pH of 5, 0.030 g of adsorbent dosage in 5 mg/L of dye solution at room temperature. The validity of adsorption data was estimated using nonlinear models of kinetics (1st and 2nd order) as well as isotherm (Langmuir's model and Freundlich's model). The nonlinear pseudo 1st order kinetic model (Correlation coefficient, R 2 = 0.97078) and the Langmuir model (R 2 = 0.95659) were found to be more suitable than 2nd order (R 2 = 0.96998) and Freundlich model (R 2 = 0.91708) for photocatalytic degradation of RhB dye on synthesized samples. The maximum adsorption capacity of RhB dye over synthesized samples is 25.95 mg/g. Sample's stability after photocatalytic degradation of dye is investigated by FTIR and XRD techniques. The prepared sample's antibacterial activity was explored for Escherichia coli (max zone of inhibition (ZOI)-15.30 ± 1.00 mm) and Staphylococcus aureus (ZOI-15.50 ± 1.15 mm) using the well diffusion method. Further, the antifungal activity was assessed against soil-borne fungal phytopathogens such as Rosellinia necatrix (max% inhibition-52.75 ± 1.00%) and Fusarium oxysporum (36.55 ± 0.57%). The obtained results revealed that NFO and doped NFO nanoparticles possess excellent photocatalytic, antibacterial and antifungal properties. These nanoparticles could be easily isolated from the water solution as soon as the disinfection activity is completed using an external magnetic field.

Abstract:Journal of Thermoplastic Composite Materials, Ahead of Print. This study investigates the magnetic, thermal, and electrical properties of Co0.72Sr0.07Ni0.21Fe2O4 ferrite nanoparticles under different conditions, including as-prepared, irradiated (at a dose of 100 kGy in CO2 atmosphere), and aged (at 1000°C). The magnetic properties are analyzed using M-H loops, revealing that the aged sample exhibits the highest magnetization values. The observed decrease in magnetization after irradiation and increase after aging is consistent due to the presence of a new phase (γ-FeOOH) in the irradiated sample that XRD confirms. Electrical conductivity measurements demonstrate that the aging sample exhibits the highest electrical conductivity due to increased grain boundaries, while the irradiated sample shows increased conductivity attributed to oxygen vacancies. As well as the nanocomposite of PVP and Co0.72Sr0.07Ni0.21Fe2O4 nanoparticles aged (at 1000°C) is found to be effective in degrading the Toluidine Blue (TB) dye through catalytic oxidation and photodegradation mechanisms. The catalytic degradation of TB dye provides valuable insights into the potential application of these ferrite nanoparticles in environmental remediation and wastewater treatment. Also, nanocomposite demonstrated significant antimicrobial activity against five pathogenic bacterial strains commonly found in contaminated water, with superior effectiveness against Gram-negative bacteria, particularly Salmonella enterica and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, suggesting its potential as an effective water treatment agent. The novelty and the aims are to analyze the changes in magnetization and conductivity of the nanoparticles under different conditions, including as-prepared, irradiated, and aged samples. Additionally, the catalytic efficiency of the aged nanoparticles in degrading Toluidine Blue (TB) dye is examined, providing insights into their potential application in environmental remediation and wastewater treatment.

Abstract:Nanoscale TiO 2 -based materials are gaining popularity in the healthcare sector due to their antimicrobial properties, low cost, and adaptable physicochemical characteristics. Despite extensive research, their high biological compatibility along with biocidal activities fall short till date. Herein, Sr and Fe ion doped titanium dioxide conjugated with folic acid nanocomposite (TiO 2 SrFeFA) is synthesized and studied for antibacterial, antifungal, and anticancer properties. As-synthesized TiO 2 SrFeFA nanocomposite exhibit spherical morphology with anatase phase, efficiently doped Sr and Fe ion, and embedded in folic acid matrix. TiO 2 SrFeFA shows excellent antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus , Staphylococcus pneumoniae , Bacillus subtilis , Klebsiella pneumoniae , Shigella dysenteriae and Escherichia coli ; antifungal activity against Candida albicans ; anticancer activity against breast cancer MOLT-4 cell and antioxidant activity. The effectiveness of Sr and Fe ion doped titanium dioxide nanoparticles conjugated with FA demonstrated the nanomaterial's potential as a biocompatible biocidal agent.

Abstract:The simultaneous incorporation of iron (III) oxide (Fe2O3) and titanium oxide (TiO2) forms a noteworthy composite for oxygen evolution reactions, photocatalytic, and antimicrobial applications. TiO2/Fe2O3 nanocomposite was deposited utilizing a patented, single-step altered pseudo-successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (p-SILAR) process for the deposition of oxides, which was employed in this study to form Fe2O3 for the first time. The developed nanocomposite exhibits improved electrocatalytic water splitting, photocatalytic activity, and antimicrobial performance. Controlled deposition and heat treatment enable the formation of Fe2O3 and TiO2, as verified by SEM, EAM, and XPS analysis. Incorporation of Fe2O3 significantly enhances the photocatalytic activity of P25 TiO2 nanoparticles, demonstrated by the visible light dye degradation test. The nanocomposite degrades 58% of the Rhodamine B dye in 100 min, while pure TiO2 degrades only 26%. The NC also shows higher antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus compared to pure TiO2. Water splitting performance is evaluated using Electro Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), Cyclic Voltammetry (CV), Linear Sweep Voltammetry (LSV), and Tafel Slopes. The results show that TiO2/Fe2O3 NCs exhibit improved oxygen evolution reaction compared to pure TiO2.

Abstract:In this work, synthesis and characterization of SrFeO3-δ nanoparticles as antimicrobial agent are presented. Structural characterization of SrFeO3-δ sample shows that it has a cubic (Pm3m) phase with minor tetragonal phase. The morphology of the SrFeO3-δ nanoparticles sample was characterized by a field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). Mössbauer spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results showed that the iron exists in oxidation states Fe3+, Fe3.5+, and Fe4+. The SrFeO3-δ nanoparticles sample exhibits energy band gap (Eg = 1.75 eV) which lies in the Visible region. Thermal and magnetic studies provide an evidence for ferroelectricity and antiferromagnetic with small amount of ferromagnetic in SrFeO3-δ nanoparticles sample, respectively. SrFeO3-δ nanoparticles sample showing powerful activity to fight both of tested Gram-positive, Gram-negative bacteria, and fungi strains. The antimicrobial activity as well as the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and the minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of the SrFeO3-δ nanoparticles sample have been investigated.

Abstract:Abstract This study presents a sustainable method for producing iron oxide nanoparticles (FeO NPs) using aqueous extracts from coffee seeds. Characterization through X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed non-spherical NPs ranging from 30 to 50 nm. The XRD analysis confirmed that the face-centred cubic structure and the Debye–Scherrer’s crystalline size support the FeO particle size confirmed from TEM. The synthesized NPs demonstrated significant antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus , as well as antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger . Additionally, they exhibited potent antioxidant properties, effectively inhibiting DPPH, α-amylase, and α-glucosidase compared to acarbose and coffee extract. The findings suggest that these FeO NPs hold promise as antimicrobial, antioxidant, antifungal, and potentially antidiabetic agents.

Abstract:Harnessing biocompatibility and magnetic separability a Chitosan Schiff base-modified ferrite is an innovative approach for addressing the issue of environmental pollution. This study aims to use a new visible light-activated photocatalyst made of cobalt ferrite (CoFe) anchored with Chitosan Schiff Base (CSB) to examine Rhodamine B (RhB) photodegradation. CSB@CoFe composite was synthesized using hydrothermal and sol-gel methods. This modified CSB composite and oxygen vacancies (OVs) have been proven by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, experimental calculations, and radical capture tests. The process of oxidative degradation is facilitated by radicals such as hydroxyl (OH•) and superoxide (O2•-), as evidenced by research utilizing reactive species capture. The CSB@CoFe photocatalyst degraded 94.5 % of Rhodamine B (RhB, 50 mg/L) in 60 min at pH 7 and 1.0 g/L. The CSB@CoFe heterostructure outperformed CSB against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The photocatalyst exhibited exceptional stability across the five cycles. This study shows CSB@CoFe's persistent photocatalytic ability to degrade hazardous pollutants and act as an antimicrobial. It employs visible light to solve environmental issues positively.
