Abstract:Pipeline transportation of crude oil is an important aspect of petroleum industry which usually need amounts of electrical heating to reduce wax deposition for long-distance transportation. For saving electricity, this paper proposes a new approach for pipeline transportation of crude oil by solar heating and makes evaluation of the annual performances. Firstly, a comprehensive heat transfer model coupling with oil production well and surface pipeline for the solar-heating transportation system was built. Then the transportation days, maximum transportation distance (MTD), energy and economic of the transportation system during annual run were evaluated by the model on basis of a real production well. Lastly the effects of solar heating area, oil transportation rate, production rate, well depth and formation thermal conductivity on the annual performances were also investigated. Evaluation results show that for 20 km pipeline transportation, using 500 m 2 solar heating can eliminate 50 % of electrical heating, and support more than 200 days with no deed for heating compensation when the maximum MTD reaches to about 45 km. The presented transportation system can recover costs in a year when transportation distance above 20 km. The transportation performance is improved significantly with increase of oil transportation rate and production rate.
