Abstract:Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most complex endocrine disorders in women of reproductive age. Abnormal proliferation of granulosa cells (GCs) is an important cause of PCOS. This study aimed to explore the role of fatty acid-binding protein 5 ( FABP5 ) in granulosa cell (GC) proliferation in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) patients.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
### The Problem the Paper Attempts to Solve This paper aims to explore the role of fatty acid-binding protein 5 (FABP5) in the proliferation of granulosa cells (GCs) in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). **Specific issues include:** 1. **Changes in FABP5 expression levels**: The study found that the expression of FABP5 is significantly elevated in the ovarian granulosa cells of PCOS patients. 2. **Relationship between lipid droplet formation and cell proliferation**: Knockdown of FABP5 inhibited lipid droplet formation and the proliferation of human granulosa-like tumor cell line (KGN) cells; conversely, overexpression of FABP5 significantly enhanced lipid droplet formation and KGN cell proliferation. 3. **Mechanism of the PI3K-AKT signaling pathway**: The study identified the specific mechanism by which FABP5 promotes fatty acid synthesis and excessive proliferation of granulosa cells through activation of the PI3K-AKT signaling pathway. In summary, the paper experimentally validated that high expression of FABP5 may become a new biomarker or potential target for the diagnosis and treatment of PCOS.
