Abstract:We investigate the relationship among characteristic curves on developable surfaces. In case parameter curves coincide with these curves, we show that the base curve of a developable surface could be either a plane curve, a circular helix, a general helix or a slant helix.

Abstract:A class of spacial curves are defined over the algebraic-trigonometric space ?=span{1,θ ···, θm+1,sinθ,cosθ,θsinθ,···,θncosθ}.By choosing proper integral kernels,the projection of the spacial integral curve on the xy-plane has intrinsic definition,or the whole spacial curve is a PH curve.The Cartesian coordinates of the curve can be explicitly evaluated by integrals of the predefined kernels. Besides, techniques of interpolation of integral curves with different integral kernels have been studied. Given the boundary data, the coefficients within the kernel functions are obtained by solving a system. Finally, we use PH curves to design a family of frames, which can be used to construct a rational swept surface. Experimental results show that the piecewise swept surface is G1continuous at the ridge line and is nearly G1continuous at the remaining junctions.

Abstract:There are two familiar constructions of a developable surface from a space curve. The tangent developable is a ruled surface for which the rulings are tangent to the curve at each point and relative to this surface the absolute value of the geodesic curvature of the curve equals the curvature . The alternative construction is the rectifying developable. The geodesic curvature of the curve relative to any such surface vanishes. We show that there is a family of developable surfaces that can be generated from a curve, one surface for each function that is defined on the curve and satisfies || ≤ , and that the geodesic curvature of the curve relative to each such constructed surface satisfies = .

Abstract:Using the concept of duality between points and planes in 3D projective space, the paper presents a direct explicit representation for developable surfaces utilizing control planes. In this manner, a developable surface is designed using control planes with Bezier and B spline basis functions. Techniques for the geometric design of developable surfaces in this paper have all the characteristics of existing methods for curves design. Some of the geometric constructions that exist for curves are also generalized to the design of developable surfaces. The paper also proves that representation control planes according to its centre point and the distance to the centre point from the origin may display range of control planes by its centre point. This allows a designer to control planes directly in designing a surface and displaying the trajectory of the generating plane.

Abstract:Ruled surfaces play an important role in various types of design, architecture, manufacturing, art, and sculpture. They can be created in a variety of ways, which is a topic that has been the subject of a lot of discussion in mathematics and engineering journals. In geometric modelling, ideas are successful if they are not too complex for engineers and practitioners to understand and not too difficult to implement, because these specialists put mathematical theories into practice by implementing them in CAD/CAM systems. Some of these popular systems such as AutoCAD, Solidworks, CATIA, Rhinoceros 3D, and others are based on simple polynomial or rational splines and many other beautiful mathematical theories that have not yet been implemented due to their complexity. Based on this philosophy, in the present work, we investigate a simple method of generating ruled surfaces whose generators are the curvature axes of curves. We show that this type of ruled surface is a developable surface and that there is at least one curve whose curvature axis is a line on the given developable surface. In addition, we discuss the classifications of developable surfaces corresponding to space curves with singularities, as these curves and surfaces are most often avoided in practical design. Our research also contributes to the understanding of the singularities of developable surfaces and, in their visualisation, proposes the use of environmental maps with a circular pattern that creates flower-like structures around the singularities.

Abstract:Based on the important idea of duality between plane and point geometries, two direct explicit methods of computer-aided design for developable surfaces were proposed, the developable surfaces were represented using control planes with appropriate basis functions. The shapes of developable surfaces can be adjusted using a control parameter λ(0 ≤ λ ≤ 1). When adjusting parameter A, a family of developable surfaces can be constructed, they can keep the characteristics of B-spline surfaces, and in the particular case of A = 0.5, the developable surface is a uniform B-spline surface. We show that the techniques for the geometric design of developable surfaces herein have all the characteristics of existing approaches for curve design. The algorithms were explained in detail, and the examples demonstrate freedom and efficiency of the methods.

Abstract:Based on the idea of duality between plane and point geometries, we present an explicit representation for fourth degree developable surfaces. In our scheme, a developable surface is designed by utilizing control planes with Bezier or B-spline basis functions. In the paper, the properties and geometric construction algorithms for the developable surfaces designed are discussed, and furthermore, the method of representing control planes according to its center point is given. It shows that the techniques for the geometric design of developable surfaces in this paper fully possess the characteristics of existing methods for curve design. Our method provides a quite simple and intuitive way for designing developable surfaces.

Abstract:In this study, we introduce a new type of surface curves called D-type curve. This curve is defined by the property that the unit Darboux vector W0 of a space curve r(s) and unit surface normal n along the curve r(s) satisfy the condition <n,W0>=constant. We point out that a D-type curve is a geodesic curve or an asymptotic curve in some special cases. Then, by using the Frenet vectors and parametric representation of a surface pencil as a linear combination of the Frenet vectors, we investigate necessary and sufficient condition for a curve to be a D-type curve on a surface pencil. Moreover, we introduce some corollaries by considering D-type curve as a helix, a Salkowski curve or a planar curve. Finally, we give some examples for obtained results and plot the surfaces by using Mapple.

Abstract:In this research, we have constructed and studied special tubular surfaces in Euclidean 3-space $ \mathbb{R}^{3} $. We examined the singularities and geometrical properties of these surfaces. We achieved some significant results for these surfaces via Darboux frame. Also, we have proposed a few geometric invariants that illustrate the geometric characteristics of these surfaces, such as tubular Weingarten surfaces, using the traditional methods of differential geometry. Additionally, taking advantage of the singularity theory, we have given the classification of generic singularities of these surfaces. At last, we have presented some computational examples as an instance of use to validate our theoretical findings.

Abstract:In this paper,using the important idea of duality between plane and point geometries,we propose a direct explicit and efficient method of computer-aided design for developable surfaces based on triangle-B spline.The developable surfaces are represented using control planes with appropriate basis functions.The shapes of developable surfaces can be adjusted using a control parameter.When adjusting parameter,a family of developable surfaces can be constructed,they can keep the characteristics of B spline surfaces.Meanwhile,we show that the techniques for the geometric design of developable surfaces in this paper have all the characteristics of existing approaches for curves design.The new algorithm can not only overcome the difficulties in representation of developable surfaces utilizing traditional approaches,but also resolve the problems in adjusting and controlling the shape of developable surfaces that often faced in Engineering.The algorithms are explained in detail,and demonstrated with the examples in the paper.We expect our methods can fill the gaps in research of developable surfaces.

Abstract:Developable surfaces are the special ruled surfaces where the Gaussian curvature of each point vanishes. Tangent developable is the most interesting surface among three fundamental types of developable surfaces. This paper investigates lightlike tangent developable generated by a lightlike base curve in de Sitter 3-space. We first give the topological classification of the lightlike curves which lie in de Sitter 3-space by using the theory of finite determinacy. Furthermore, we establish the relationships between lightlike tangent developables and topological types of lightlike curves, and we give the classification of singularities of lightlike tangent developables from the viewpoint of Legendrian singularity theory. Finally, we provide several examples to illustrate our theoretical results.

Abstract:Willmore defined embedded surfaces on f:S→E3, which is the embedding of S into Euclidean 3-space. He investigated the Euclidean metric of E3, inducing a Riemannian structure on f(S). The expression analogous to the left-hand member of the curvature K is replaced by the mean curvature H2 on f(S). Our aim is to observe the Gaussian and mean curvatures of curve–surface pairs using embedded surfaces in different curve–surface pairs and to define some developable operations on their curve–surface pairs. We also investigate the embedded surfaces using the Willmore method. We first recall the Darboux curve–surface and derive the new characterizations. This curve–surface pair is called the osculating Darboux curve–surface if its position vector always lies in the osculating Darboux plane spanned by a Darboux frame. Thus, we observed an osculating Darboux curve–surface pair. We also obtained the D∼-scroll of the curve–surface pair and involute D∼-scroll of the curve–surface pair with some differential geometric elements and found D∼(α,M)(s) and D∗∼(α,M)(s)-scrolls of the curve–surface pair (α,M).

Abstract:This paper studies the problem to construct a spacelike developable surface possessing a given non-null parametric curve as the line of curvature in Minkowski 3-space. By using Frenet frame to express the surface, we derive the necessary and sufficient conditions when the resulting spacelike developable surface is cylinder, cone or tangent surface. Finally, we give some representative examples.

Abstract:Here, we focus on focal surfaces of a tubular surface in Euclidean 3-space E^3: Firstly, we give the tubular surfaces with respect to Frenet and Darboux frames. Then, we define focal surfaces of these tubular surfaces. We get some results for these types of surfaces to become flat and we show that there is no minimal focal surface of a tubular surface in E^3. We give some examples for these type surfaces. Further, we show that u-parameter curves cannot be asymptotic curves and we obtain some results about v-parameter curves of the focal surface M^*.

Abstract:The developable surface is always a hot issue in computer aided geometric design. It has very nice application prospect in curves and surfaces modeling. Moreover, it is closely related with approximation theory, optimization, differential geometry and line geometry. Therefore, it produces many beautiful mathematical results. This article mainly sums up some basic results of developable surfaces and the researches which the authors have done in recent years. At the same time, we describe the prospect for the future. The main work mainly includes the construction and blending of the developable surface owning certain geometric constraints.

Abstract:We give necessary and sufficient conditions on the curvature and the torsion of a regular curve of the space forms $\h^3$ and $\s^3$ to be contained in a totally umbilical surface. In case that the curve has constant torsion, we obtain the value of the curvature of the curve. Also numerical pictures of these curves are shown.

Abstract:A hyperbolic framed curve is a smooth curve with a moving frame in hyperbolic 3-space. It may have singularities. By using this moving frame, we can investigate the differential geometry properties of curves, even at singular points. In fact, we consider the focal surfaces and evolutes of hyperbolic framed curves by using Legendrian dualities which developed by Chen and Izumiya. The focal surfaces are the dual surfaces of tangent indicatrix of original curves. Moreover, classifications of singularities of the serval dual surfaces are shown. By this, we give the relationship among focal surfaces, evolutes and dual surfaces of evolutes. Finally, we study duality relations of singularities between focal surfaces and dual surfaces of evolutes.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate sufficient condition for the invariance of a rectifying curve on a smooth surface immersed in Euclidean 3-space under isometry by using Darboux frame $\left\lbrace T, P, U\right\rbrace$. Further, we find the deviations of the position vector of a rectifying curve on the smooth surface along any tangent vector $T = a\phi_u + b\phi_v$ with respect to the isometry. We also find the deviations of the position vector of a rectifying curve on the smooth surface along the unit normal $U$ to the surface and along $P (= U \times T)$ with respect to the isometry.

Abstract:Developable surface and line of curvature play an important role in geometric design and surface analysis. This paper proposes a new method to construct a developable surface possessing a given curve as the line of curvature of it. Abstract:This study introduces a new type of general helix called associated helix which is associated to a special surface curve. The basic idea is to determinate the parametric form of an associated helix by means of Darboux frame and surface curvatures of a special surface curve such as helical curve, relatively normal-slant helix or isophote curve. For each surface curve, a differential equation system is obtained and by solving this system, parametric form of an associated helix is introduced.

Abstract:A twisted curve in Euclidean 3-space E^3 can be considered as a curve whose position vector can be written as linear combination of its Frenet vectors. In the present study we study the twisted curves of constant ratio in E^3 and characterize such curves in terms of their curvature functions. Further, we obtain some results of T-constant and N-constant type twisted curves in E^3. Finally, we give some examples of equiangular spirals which are constant ratio curves.
