Abstract:Dear Editor, Patients with resistant hypertension (ARH) are on the rise worldwide, and its association with heart failure (HF) has been a focus of attention in cardiovascular medicine. A recent meta-analysis published in Hypertension Research provides valuable data and insights showing that patients with ARH have a significantly higher risk of heart failure (1.7 to 2.3 times) compared to patients with well-controlled hypertension, uncontrolled resistant hypertension, and apparent non-resistant hypertension [1]. This finding not only deepens our understanding of the role of different phenotypes of hypertension in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease, but also emphasizes the importance of assessing and managing the risk of heart failure in patients with ARH in clinical practice. Moreover, considering that ARH is associated with higher 24-hour systolic and diastolic blood pressure levels, this further confirms the important role of continuous blood pressure monitoring in predicting cardiovascular risk.
