Abstract:In this paper, the basic concepts and requirements of intelligent metal-forming simulation are presented. A general-purpose metal-forming simulator AFDEX developed to meet the requirements is then discussed, with emphasis on its intelligence. The simulator is based on an adaptive and optimal mesh-generation technique and includes many intelligent, application-oriented special functions, which not only enhance solution accuracy but also minimize user intervention during a metal-forming simulation. Characteristics and typical applications of the simulator are described.
