Abstract:Halogen substitution has been proven as an effective approach to the band gap engineering and optoelectronic modulation of organic-inorganic hybrid metal halide (OIHMH) materials. Various high-performance mixed halide OIHMH film materials have been primarily obtained through the substitution of coordinated halogens in their inorganic octahedra. Herein, we propose a new strategy of substitution of free halogen outside the inorganic octahedra for constructing mixed halide OIHMH single crystals...

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The paper aims to propose a new free halogen substitution strategy to regulate the electronic structure and optoelectronic properties of organic-inorganic hybrid metal halides (OIHMH) materials. Specifically, by introducing free halogens (such as bromine) into positions outside the inorganic octahedra, researchers successfully synthesized large-size single crystals with chiral structures and significantly enhanced the linear and nonlinear circular dichroism optical properties of these materials. Moreover, this method effectively avoids the issues of composition and performance instability caused by photoinduced phase separation. Through the free halogen substitution from DMA\(_4\)[InCl\(_6\)]Cl to DMA\(_4\)[InCl\(_6\)]Br, not only was strong photoluminescence (PL) with high quantum yield achieved, but there was also a significant improvement in nonlinear optical (NLO) performance, particularly obtaining the highest SHG circular dichroism anisotropy factor (g\(_{SHG-CD}\)=1.56). This strategy was also extended to other similar OIHMH materials, further verifying its universality and effectiveness.
