Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks are porous crystal materials made by the coordination of metal sites and organic ligands. MOFs have lots of advantages, such as large specific surface area, controllable coordination and are easily modified by organic functional groups or metal sites. MOF films have been widely valued by researchers based on this. MOF films have special properties that traditional powder materials don't have. This will help them be used more widely in the future. This article summarizes the synthesis methods of MOF films and outlines their advantages and disadvantages. Based on the properties of MOF films, further summarize their potential applications.

Abstract:Polymers have become one of the major types of materials that are essential in our daily life. The controlled synthesis of value-added polymers with unique mechanical and chemical properties have attracted broad research interest. Metal–organic framework (MOF) is a class of porous material with immense structural diversity which offers unique advantages for catalyzing polymerization and oligomerization reactions including the uniformity of the catalytic active site, and the templating effect of the nano-sized channels. We summarized in this review the important recent progress in the field of MOF-catalyzed and MOF-templated polymerizations, to reveal the chemical principle and structural aspects of these systems and hope to inspire the future design of novel polymerization systems with improved activity and specificity.

Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have different structures and various intrinsic properties, such as large specific surface area, flexible and adjustable structural configurations, coordinately-unsaturated metal center, etc., which facilitate the rapid development and wide application of coordination chemistry, over the past decades, including gas adsorption, catalysis, and magnetism. Although the metals in various regions of the periodic table have been explored to build different monometallic MOFs, the researches about functional heterometallic-organic framework (HMOF) materials have not been particularly in-depth. Compared with monometallic MOFs, some special positions are occupied by the heterogeneous metals in one HMOF, which will result in interesting network topologies, and the excellent synergistic effect between the different metal ions will make the physical and chemical properties to be effectively enhanced. This review mainly focuses on introducing the latest progresses of HMOFs, including the various synthesis strategies, applications and outlooks, which may provide some useful guidance for the preparation of novel HMOF materials and make them widely used in the whole energy landscape.

Abstract:Unlike inorganic crystals, metal-organic frameworks do not have a well-developed nanostructure library, and establishing their appropriately diverse and complex architectures remains a major challenge. Here, we demonstrate a general route to control metal-organic framework structure by a solvent-assisted ligand exchange approach. Thirteen different types of metal-organic framework structures have been prepared successfully. To demonstrate a proof of concept application, we used the obtained metal-organic framework materials as precursors for synthesizing nanoporous carbons and investigated their electrochemical Na + storage properties. Due to the unique architecture, the one-dimensional nanoporous carbon derived from double-shelled ZnCo bimetallic zeolitic imidazolate framework nanotubes exhibits high specific capacity as well as superior rate capability and cycling stability. Our study offers an avenue for the controllable preparation of well-designed meta-organic framework structures and their derivatives, which would further broaden the application opportunities of metal-organic framework materials.

Abstract:Within the past few decades, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have attracted much attention due to their porous structure, periodicity, and tunability; however, the lack of good stability of MOFs limits its further application, while COFs are limited by the lack of metal active sites. Recently, a new kind of organic frameworks appeared, which used metal clusters of MOFs as secondary building units (SBUs) and synthesized covalent-metal–organic frameworks (C-MOFs) through the dynamic covalent bonding linkage of COFs. C-MOFs combine the advantages of both MOFs and COFs, and also possess the adjustable and predictable periodic porous structure, which has good stability at the and also the presence of metal active sites, which is a novel material. In this review, we provide an overview of the research advances in the synthesis strategies of C-MOFs, as well as the progress of their applications in catalysis, gas storage, and energy storage. In addition, the article ends with a look at the future direction of C-MOFs.

Abstract:Although considerable achievements have been realized in recent years with respect to the syntheses of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs),majority of the developed MOFs are in the form of polydisperse microcrystalline powders,which cause dustiness,abrasion,and clogging and decrease pressure when used in industrial applications.Monolithic MOFs overcome these drawbacks and exhibit various pro-mising characteristics.In this review,we present the recent advances associated with monolithic MOFs based on metal centers and a brief outline of the most prominent examples.Furthermore,the challenges and prospects associated with monolithic MOFs in terms of large-scale production and en-gineering applicability are analyzed based on our knowledge to conclude this review.

Abstract:<p>Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are crystalline porous materials in which metal ions or clusters are constructed in cooperation with organic linkers. MOFs have received tremendous attention in the fields of both inorganic and organic chemistry owing to their high porosity, large specific surface area, regular pore arrangement, and adjustable pore size. This article reviews a large number of preparation methods for MOF films, including liquid phase epitaxy, supersonic cold spraying, direct gas-phase preparation, and interface-assisted synthesis. Thereafter, we introduce applications of MOF films in the fields of optics, sensing, catalysis, adsorption, and separation, as well as their electrochemical energy storage. At the end of this review, we describe the challenges that need to be overcome and consider future perspectives for synthesis and applications.</p>

Abstract:As a typical class of crystalline porous materials, metal–organic framework possesses unique features including versatile functionality, structural and compositional tunability. After being reduced to two-dimension, ultrathin metal-organic framework layers possess more external excellent properties favoring various technological applications. In this review article, the unique structural properties of the ultrathin metal-organic framework nanosheets benefiting from the planar topography were highlighted, involving light transmittance, and electrical conductivity. Moreover, the design strategy and versatile fabrication methodology were summarized covering discussions on their applicability and accessibility, especially for porphyritic metal-organic framework nanosheet. The current achievements in the bioapplications of two-dimensional metal-organic frameworks were presented comprising biocatalysis, biosensor, and theranostic, with an emphasis on reactive oxygen species-based nanomedicine for oncology treatment. Furthermore, current challenges confronting the utilization of two-dimensional metal-organic frameworks and future opportunities in emerging research frontiers were presented. Graphical Abstract

Abstract:This review offers an overview of the latest developments in metal-covalent organic framework (MCOF) and covalent metal-organic framework (CMOF) materials, whose construction entails a combination of reversible coordination and covalent bonding adapted from metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs), respectively. With an emphasis on the MCOF and CMOF structures, this review surveys their building blocks and topologies. Specifically, the frameworks are classified based on the dimensions of their components (building blocks), namely, discrete building blocks and one-dimensional infinite building blocks. For the first category, the materials are further divided into collections of two- and three-dimensional networks based on their topologies. For the second category, the recently emerging MCOFs with woven structures are covered. Finally, the state-of-the-art in MCOF and CMOF chemistry has been laid out for promising avenues in future developments.

Abstract:Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), constructed by organic linkers and metal nodes, are a new class of crystalline porous materials with significant application potentials. Featured with extremely high surface area, large porosity, tunable pore size, and flexible functionality, MOFs have gained extensive explorations as a highly versatile platform for functional applications in many research fields. This review presents an up-to-date summary ranging from the structural and physical properties of MOFs to their recent application advances including gas storage and separation, heterogeneous catalysis, chemical sensors, proton conductivity, biomedicine, and others. The structure–property relationships are particularly emphasized. Finally, the newly emerging research trends of MOFs and the unresolved challenges for functional applications are discussed in detail.

Abstract:Metalation of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) has been developed as a prominent strategy for materials functionalization for pore chemistry modulation and property optimization. By introducing exotic metal ions/complexes/nanoparticles onto/into the parent framework, many metallized MOFs have exhibited significantly improved performance in a wide range of applications. In this review, we focus on the research progress in the metalation of metal-organic frameworks during the last five years, spanning the design principles, synthetic strategies, and potential applications. Based on the crystal engineering principles, a minor change in the MOF composition through metalation would lead to leveraged variation of properties. This review starts from the general strategies established for the incorporation of metal species within MOFs, followed by the design principles to graft the desired functionality while maintaining the porosity of frameworks. Facile metalation has contributed a great number of bespoke materials with excellent performance, and we summarize their applications in gas adsorption and separation, heterogeneous catalysis, detection and sensing, and energy storage and conversion. The underlying mechanisms are also investigated by state-of-the-art techniques and analyzed for gaining insight into the structure-property relationships, which would in turn facilitate the further development of design principles. Finally, the current challenges and opportunities in MOF metalation have been discussed, and the promising future directions for customizing the next-generation advanced materials have been outlined as well.

Abstract:Many sophisticated chemical and physical properties of porous materials strongly rely on the presence of the metal ions within the structures. Whereas homogeneous distribution of metals is conveniently realized in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), the limited stability potentially restricts their practical implementation. From that perspective, the development of metal-covalent organic frameworks (MCOFs) may address these shortcomings by incorporating active metal species atop highly stable COF backbones. This Minireview highlights examples of MCOFs that tackle important issues from their design, synthesis, characterization to cutting-edge applications.
