Abstract:We study nonlinear transports of a light field through finite parity–time symmetric lattice potentials. The initial light field is trapped in a source reservoir and is released to expand toward the lattice potentials along the transverse direction due to the nonlinearity. We identify the transports that can be classified into in-band and in-gap transports. In the in-band transport, the light field can tunnel through the lattices into the sink reservoir, and in the in-gap transport, the light field is self-trapped inside the lattices to form a solitary wave.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The paper aims to study the nonlinear transport phenomena through a finite parity-time (PT) symmetric lattice potential. Specifically: 1. **Research Background**: - The paper explores the nonlinear transport behavior of light fields in PT symmetric lattice potentials. The initial light field is confined in a source reservoir, and upon release, the light field expands transversely into the lattice potential due to nonlinear effects. - Nonlinear transport can be divided into two categories: in-band transport and in-gap transport. In in-band transport, the light field can pass through the lattice into another reservoir; whereas in in-gap transport, the light field forms solitons within the lattice. 2. **Main Findings**: - The authors demonstrate the transport behavior under different parameters through numerical simulations and provide a detailed analysis of the characteristics of the two types of transport. - In in-band transport, the light field can penetrate the lattice to reach another reservoir, while in-gap transport manifests as the localization of the light field within the lattice. 3. **Nonlinear Effects**: - Nonlinear effects significantly influence the transport process, especially in cases of self-focusing and self-defocusing nonlinearity. - The study also reveals the phase transition phenomena of PT symmetry under different parameters, particularly how nonlinearity alters the critical conditions for PT phase transitions. 4. **Tunability**: - The paper further demonstrates that by adjusting the amplitude of the imaginary lattice potential, it is possible to modulate between in-band transport and in-gap transport. In summary, the main objective of this paper is to investigate the nonlinear transport behavior and characteristics of light fields in PT symmetric lattice potentials through theoretical modeling and numerical simulations, particularly focusing on the transport mechanisms under different nonlinear effects.
