Abstract:The visible-light-promoted diastereodivergent intramolecular oxyamination of alkenes is described to construct oxazolindinones, pyrrolidinones and imidazolidones via mild generation of primary amidyl radicals from functionalized hydroxylamines. A unique phenomenon of highly diastereoselective ring-opening of aziridines controlled by electron sacrifices was observed. Highly diastereoselective amino alcohols derivatives were obtained efficiently through this protocol in gram scales. The mechanistic studies suggested the isolatable anti-aziridine intermediates were generated quickly from primary amidyl radicals and the diastereoselectivities were controlled by pK(a) values of the electron sacrifices.

Abstract:An effective synthetic method to achieve difluoromethylated oxazolidin-2-imine has been developed via visible-light promoted three-component tandem reaction of aryl allylamines, 2-BTSO2CF2H (BT = Benzothiazole) and isocyanates. This method features mild reaction conditions and good functional group tolerance, and the reaction mechanism was confirmed by experiments and interpreted by quantum chemical calculations.

Abstract:Visible light promoted difunctionalization of alkynes is reviewed. The difunctionalization reaction is achieved by different reagents. Radicals such as carbon (sp3), carbon (sp2), and other heteroatom (P, S, N, Se, O, and halide) radicals initiated by visible light can undergo radical addition to a carbon-carbon triple bond. Upon further transformation, the desired difunctionalized products are obtained. Some organometallic complexes can be activated by visible light; the difunctionalization of alkynes is catalyzed by these species. Other reagents like 1,3-dipole precursors could also react with alkynes to give difunctionalization products; here, the 1,3-dipole derivatives are obtained by visible light photocatalysis. So far, the strategy has been succeeded in the formation of C–C bonds and C–X bonds. Several valuable chemical skeletons have been constructed under mild conditions. However, high regio- and stereoselectivities in some direct difunctionalization methodologies are yet to be achieved.

Abstract:Perfluoroalkyl iodides generally formed electron donor-acceptor (EDA) complexes by halogen bonding with a nitrogen atom containing Lewis bases. Since the electronegativity of the oxygen atom is stronger than that of the nitrogen atom, the resulting Rf-I···O-type halogen bonding EDA complex is less inclined to undergo electron transfer. Here, we reported rare ternary EDA complexes among perfluoroalkyl iodide, oxygen atom, and base. Mechanism experiments and density functional theory theoretical (DFT) calculations indicated that a base-promoted proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) process was involved in this photochemical reaction. The intracomplex electron transfer event generated two radical species, perfluoroalkyl radical and TEMPO radical, enabling the subsequent oxy-perfluoroalkylation of olefins.

Abstract:An efficient visible-light photocatalytic protocol for the vicinal heteroarylsulfonylation and oximinosulfonylation of unactivated olefins is described. The addition of sulfonyl radicals to alkenes triggers the intramolecular migration of remote heteroaryl and oximino groups via CC bond cleavage. The transformation features a good functional group tolerance and a broad substrate scope. A variety of valuable heteroaryl- and oximino-substituted alkyl sulfones are obtained under mild conditions in synthetically useful yields.

Abstract:Visible-light-induced three-component 1,2-alkylarylation of alkenes and alkyl radical addition/cyclization of acrylamides have been realized via a photocatalytic halogen-atom transfer (XAT) process. This metal-free protocol utilizes readily available tertiary alkylamine as both an electron donor and XAT reagent for the activation of alkyl halides using naphthalimide (NI)-based organic photocatalysts. This process features broad substrate scope and good functional group tolerance under mild conditions, and could be effectively applied to a variety of medicinally relevant substrates.

Abstract:Imides are prepared conveniently by visible-light-driven oxidations of various N-alkylamides under mild conditions. The majority of the reactions proceed efficiently by using Oxone as the oxidant in the presence of a catalytic amount of KBr in H2O/CH2Cl2 under irradiation by an 8 W white LED at room temperature. Experimental studies suggest that an imine, obtained from the substrate amide via a radical process, is the key intermediate.

Abstract:In recent decades, difunctionalization of alkenes has received considerable attention as an efficient and straightforward way to increase molecular complexity. However, examples of the difunctionalization of alkenes initiated by the intermolecular addition of alkoxycarbonyl radicals providing substituted alkanoates are still rare. Herein, we present the visible light-driven metal-free divergent difunctionalization of alkenes triggered by the intermolecular addition of alkoxycarbonyl radicals under ambient conditions. Employing alkyl formates as precursors of alkoxycarbonyl radicals and 4CzIPN as the photocatalyst, a variety of substituted alkanoates, including β-alkoxy, β-hydroxy, β-dimethoxymethoxy, and β-formyloxy alkanoates, could be facilely accessed with high functional group tolerance and high efficiency. Abstract:In this paper, visible-light-induced deoxyalkynylation of activated tertiary alcohols has been successfully performed under mild reaction conditions with ethynylbenziodoxole as the readily available alkynylation reagent. The desired C(sp3)-C(sp) coupling can smoothly occur with 4-CzIPN as a photocatalyst, affording a wide range of valuable alkynylation products bearing quaternary carbon centers in 37-84% yields.

Abstract:A novel ternary EDA complex catalysis strategy has been developed for the photoactivation of oxime esters. By augmenting the electron-donating properties of zwitterions with a base, a ternary EDA complex is formed, facilitating intermolecular charge transfer under visible light. This process enables the single-electron reduction of γ,δ-unsaturated oxime esters, resulting in the homolytic cleavage of the N–O bond. The resulting iminyl radicals then undergo intramolecular cyclization to generate alkyl radicals, enabling C3-alkylation of quinoxalin-2(1 H )-ones in good to excellent yields. Additionally, a novel covalent fluorescent labeling method was established using this mild alkylation method.

Abstract:A visible-light-induced one-pot three-component reaction of cycloketone oxime esters, NH-sulfoximines, and alkenes was developed for the difunctionalization of alkenes. As a result, a series of versatile sulfoximido-cyanoalkylative products were synthesized under mild and sustainable reaction conditions (up to 98% yield). The significance of this protocol was highlighted by excellent regioselectivity, broad substrate scope, and excellent synthetic applications.
