Abstract:3-Monochloropropane-1,2-diol (3-MCPD) is a common food processing contaminant and a simple, rapid, sensitive and low cost monitoring technology is needed due to its potential carcinogenic nature. Carbon dots directly intercepted on filter paper provide high fluorescence intensity and can be adapted for use as a sensor. We synthesized a carbon dot-filter paper in combination with a molecularly imprinted polymeric film to extract 3-MCPD from samples. This grafted paper-based sensor exhibited a high adsorption capacity (68.97 mg g-1), an excellent selectivity (imprinting factor = 4.5) and a low detection limit (0.6 ng mL-1). Recoveries ranged from 97.2% to 105.3% with relative standard deviations <5.6%. The results obtained using this method were linearly correlated to those of the classic GC-MS method (r = 0.998). Based on the Chinese National Standard, this study provides a novel and powerful platform for the simple, rapid, sensitive and on-site analysis of 3-MCPD in soy sauce.

Abstract:In this study, a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) electrochemical sensor based on electrochemically modified graphite paper (EM-GP) was developed for the detection of 3-MCPD for the first time. To this end, Prussian blue (PB) was electrodeposited on EM-GP to yield uniformly distributed PtNPs. The successful prepa-ration of Pt@PB/EM-GP was verified by SEM, Raman spectroscopy, XRD, XPS, and EDS. MIP was then prepared by CV electropolymerization with template molecules (3-MCPD), and density functional theory (DFT) at M06 -2X/6-31 + g (d,p) level was used to calculate the molecular-level interaction between 3-MCPD and MIP. Under the optimum conditions, the dynamic linear range of the sensing platform varied from 1 x 10(-8) mol/L to 5 x 10(-5) mol/L with a detection limit estimated to 5 x 10(-9) mol/L (S/N = 3). Overall, these findings look promising for the construction of selective and quick detection platforms of 3-MCPD in food samples.
Simple and Rapid Detection of Free 3-Monochloropropane-1,2-diol Based on Cysteine Modified Silver Nanoparticles.

Abstract:A rapid colorimetric method using cysteine-modified silver nanoparticles (Cys-AgNPs) is applied for the detection of 3-monochloropropane-1,2-diol (3-MCPD). Indeed, in the presence of 3-MCPD, the color of Cys-AgNPs solution changes from yellow to pink within five minutes at 100 degrees C and pH 9.3. This change is mainly attributed to the ability of amino group of cysteine to react with 3-MCPD to form N-(2,3-dihydroxypropyl)-amino acid grafted on AgNPs (3-MCPD-Cys-AgNPs) in alkaline medium. This color change makes 3-MCPD to be clearly detectable by unassisted visual means even at 0.1 mu g.mL(-1). Besides, using UV-Vis spectroscopic technique, a linear range from 0.1 mu g.mL(-1) to 1.25 mu g.mL(-1) for 3-MCPD detection is obtained, with a calculated detection limit of 0.084 mu g.mL(-1). These results suggest that this sensing technique is sensitive to 3-MCPD and may have a substantial application in the rapid detection of food contaminants particularly, where quality and safety of food products are paramount concern.

Abstract:Al-doped mesoporous cellular foam (Al-MCF) was prepared and characterized using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms and pore size distribution plots. An Al-MCF modified carbon paste electrode (Al-MCF/CPE) was developed, and both cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy were employed to study the electrochemical properties of the Al-MCF/CPE. The electrochemical behaviors of pentachlorophenol (PCP) at different electrodes were investigated by cyclic voltammetry. Compared to bare CPE and mesoporous cellular foam (MCF) modified CPE (MCF/CPE), the Al-MCF/CPE showed a stronger enhancement effect on the electrochemical oxidation of PCP. Consequently, the determination of PCP was achieved via a convenient electrochemical method. Under optimal conditions, the oxidation peak current was linearly proportional to PCP concentration in the range of 0.10–5.0mgL−1, while the detection limit was 0.080mgL−1 (signal-to-noise ratio=3). The proposed method was found to be a convenient way for the determination of the total amount of chlorophenols (CPs).

Abstract:A highly sensitive modified gold (Au) electrode using cysteine-coated silver nanoparticles (Cys-AgNPs) is designed. The electrochemical activity of this designed sensor has exhibited an excellent response for the detection of 3-chloropropane-1,2-diol (3-MCPD). Indeed, the investigation of electrochemical behavior of 3-MCPD at the Cys-AgNPs/Au electrode has shown that the electrocatalytic activity for the 3-MCPD oxidation in NaOH solution is enhanced by three-fold with the presence of Cys-AgNPs film. This Cys-AgNPs film is found to be stable on the Au electrode and the developed electrode can be reused several times while obtaining excellent results. Furthermore, using differential pulse voltammetry technique, the oxidation current peak shows a linear relationship with 3-MCPD concentration between 2.5 ng/mL and 200 ng/mL. The calculated limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) are found to be 2.4 ng/mL and 8.6 ng/mL, respectively. A recovery rate ranging from 96% to 105% in the presence of interfering compounds with similar structure to 3-MCPD or not are observed for the determination of 3-MCPD. Moreover, the developed sensor is successfully applied to the determination of 3-MCPD in smoked mackerel and palm oil samples with results which show 3-MCPD concentration ranging from 174 to 439 μg/kg and 895 to 1280 μg/kg in smoked mackerel and palm oil samples, respectively. Abstract:Chlorpyrifos (CPF) residues in food pose a serious threat to ecosystems and human health. Herein, we propose a three-dimensional folded paper-based microfluidic analysis device (3D-μPAD) based on multifunctional metal-organic frameworks, which can achieve rapid quantitative detection of CPF by fluorescence-colorimetric dual-mode readout. Upconversion nanomaterials were first coupled with a bimetal organic framework possessing peroxidase activity to create a fluorescence-quenched nanoprobe. After that, the 3D-μPAD was finished by loading the nanoprobe onto the paper-based detection zone and spraying it with a color-developing solution. With CPF present, the fluorescence intensity of the detection zone gradually recovers, the color changes from colorless to blue. This showed a good linear relationship with the concentration of CPF, and the limits of detection were 0.028 (fluorescence) and 0.043 (colorimetric) ng/mL, respectively. Moreover, the 3D-μPAD was well applied in detecting real samples with no significant difference compared with the high-performance liquid chromatography method. We believe it has huge potential for application in the on-site detection of food hazardous substance residues.
[Determination of 3-Monochloropropane-1,2-diol in Grease Food by Solid Phase Extraction-Derivatization-gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry].

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To establish the method of determination of 3-monochloropropane-1,2-diol( 3-MCPD) in grease food by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry( GC-MS).METHODS:3-MCPD in grease food represented by bean paste was extracted by ultrasound,purified by alkaline earth solid phase extraction column,derivatived using phenylboronic acid( PBA) and detected by GC-MS.RESULTS:The linearity of 3-MCPD ranged from 1-100 ng/mL,with correlation coefficient at 0. 9993.The limits of quantitation( LOQ) in soy sauce,bean paste,pepper oil were 0. 6,0. 5 and7. 0 μg/kg and limits of detection( LOD) were 1. 9,1. 6 and 18. 8 μg/kg,respectively.Average recovery rate and relative standard deviation was 78. 3%-106. 7% and 1. 9%-11. 6%( n = 6), when 3-MCPD was added in grease food at 2. 5-1000 μg/kg.CONCLUSION:The method has good purification effect and the detection sensitivity and accuracy,and can be used for the determination of 3-MCPD in grease food.

Abstract:A novel, simplified derivatization method and a rapid sample preparation process using carbon yarn as a sorbent for the determination of 3-chloropropane-1,2-diol (3-MCPD) in soy sauce via high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) was developed. 3-MCPD was first enriched and purified with carbon yarn and then eluted with a methanol-water solution. Subsequently, the analyte underwent derivatization with p-(dimethylamino)-phenol for sensitive detection via HPLC-MS/MS. The limit of detection and the limit of quantitation for 3-MCPD were validated to be 0.5 and 1.0 μg/kg, respectively. Spiking experiments showed recoveries between 83 and 94%, with a relative standard deviation of ≤10%. The method was further validated with a certified reference material. Furthermore, 11 real soy sauce samples from local markets were tested by using this method. These results reveal the widespread 3-MCPD contamination. Consequently, this study offers a preferable alternative for the sensitive, accurate, and precise determination of 3-MCPD in soy sauce.

Abstract:Methyl paraoxon (MP) is a highly toxic, efficient and broad-spectrum organophosphorus pesticide, which poses significant risks to ecological environment and human health. Many detection methods for MP are based on the enzyme catalytic or inhibition effect. But natural biological enzymes are relatively expensive and easy to be inactivated with a short service life. As a unique tool of nanotechnology with enzyme-like characteristics, nanozyme has attracted increasing concern. However, a large proportion of nanozymes lack the intrinsic specificity, becoming a main barrier of constraining their use in biochemical analysis. Here, we use a one-pot reverse microemulsion polymerization combine the gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) with molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs), polydopamine (PDA) and hollow CeO2 nanospheres to synthesize the bright red-orange fluorescence probe (CeO2@PDA@AuNCs-MIPs) with high phosphatase-like activity for selective detection of MP. The hollow structure possesses a specific surface area and porous matrix, which not only increases the exposure of active sites but also enhances the efficiency of mass and electron transport. Consequently, this structure significantly enhances the catalytic activity by reducing transport distances. The introduced MIPs provide the specific recognition sites for MP. And Ce (III) can excite aggregation induced emission of AuNCs and enhance the fluorescent signal. The absolute fluorescence quantum yield (FLQY) of CeO2@PDA@AuNCs-MIPs (1.41 %) was 12.8-fold higher than that of the GSH-AuNCs (0.11 %). With the presence of MP, Ce (IV)/Ce (III) species serve as the active sites to polarize and hydrolyze phosphate bonds to generate p-nitrophenol (p-NP), which can quench the fluorescent signal through the inner-filter effect. The as-prepared CeO2@PDA@AuNCs-MIPs nanozyme-based fluorescence method for MP detection displayed superior analytical performances with wide linearities range of 0.45-125 nM and the detection limit of 0.15 nM. Furthermore, the designed method offers satisfactory practical application ability. The developed method is simple and effective for the in-field detection.
One-Pot Preparation of Ratiometric Fluorescent Molecularly Imprinted Polymer Nanosensor for Sensitive and Selective Detection of 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic Acid

Abstract:The development of fluorescent molecular imprinting sensors for direct, rapid, and sensitive detection of small organic molecules in aqueous systems has always presented a significant challenge in the field of detection. In this study, we successfully prepared a hydrophilic colloidal molecular imprinted polymer (MIP) with 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) using a one-pot approach that incorporated polyglycerol methacrylate (PGMMA-TTC), a hydrophilic macromolecular chain transfer agent, to mediate reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer precipitation polymerization (RAFTPP). To simplify the polymerization process while achieving ratiometric fluorescence detection, red fluorescent CdTe quantum dots (QDs) and green fluorescent nitrobenzodiazole (NBD) were introduced as fluorophores (with NBD serving as an enhancer to the template and QDs being inert). This strategy effectively eliminated background noise and significantly improved detection accuracy. Uniform-sized MIP microspheres with high surface hydrophilicity and incorporated ratiometric fluorescent labels were successfully synthesized. In aqueous systems, the hydrophilic ratio fluorescent MIP exhibited a linear response range from 0 to 25 μM for the template molecule 2,4-D with a detection limit of 0.13 μM. These results demonstrate that the ratiometric fluorescent MIP possesses excellent recognition characteristics and selectivity towards 2,4-D, thus, making it suitable for selective detection of trace amounts of pesticide 2,4-D in aqueous systems.

Abstract:Chlorpyrifos (CPF) as a classic organophosphorus pesticide has been widely used in agricultural applications to control insects and worms. CPF in the environment can cause deaths of diverse kinds of aquatic organism and bring a high risk to human health. Therefore, the development of effective analytical method for CPF is of great importance. In this work, a novel dual-mode albumin (ALB)-based supramolecular probe was designed and prepared for rapid detection of CPF in the environment. The limit of detection is 0.57 μM (∼ 0.2 ppm) with a wider detection range up to 200 μM, which is satisfactory for application. The sensing mechanism can be ascribed to CPF-induced phosphorylation of ALB, thus leading to a change in the binding microenvironment of FD dye. Moreover, the paper-based test strips were used in conjunction with the , realizing the portable detection of CPF. This method was demonstrated to be suitable for on-site detection of CPF in various kinds of environmental samples, including water, soil, and food samples, with the aid of a smartphone. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first analytical method achieving a combination of the rapid and ratiometric detection of CPF in the environment.

Abstract:Organophosphorus pesticide residues pose significant risks to human health, but conventional analytical methods are costly and complex. To address this, we developed a new environmentally friendly technique using a simple hydrothermal method to create a ratiometric fluorescent composite (RFC) with two distinct signals: blue and orange. This RFC allowed for rapid detection and quantitative analysis of organophosphorus pesticides. The composite incorporated a cerium-based metal–organic framework (Ce-UiO-66), which could degrade methyl paraoxon (MP) due to the two oxidation states of cerium. The resulting degradation product, p-nitrophenol (p-NP), specifically quenched the blue fluorescence of the RFC via the inner filter effect (IFE), while the orange fluorescence remained unaffected, ensuring consistency under microenvironmental and spectrometer conditions. This innovative approach was sensitive, with a detection limit of 0.55 μM, selective, and repeatable, offering a new strategy for pesticide analysis and safety evaluation of edible and medicinal plant and water samples.

Abstract:Abuse of pesticides has caused great threat to the environment, so it is urgent to find a fast and sensitive method to detect pesticide residues in agricultural products and water. Herein, a 3D Cd-MOF was designed and synthesized by the reaction of 3,5-di(2′,5′-dicarboxylphenyl)pyridine (H4DDPP) and Cd(NO3)2 under solvothermal conditions. Meanwhile, a stable composite with dual-emitting characteristic was constructed by the in situ encapsulation of methylene blue (MB) into the channel of Cd-MOF. Compared with Cd-MOF, exhibits sensitive sensing for carbaryl with the detection limit of 6.7 ng·mL–1 and high accuracy, which are attributed to the fluorescence enhancement effect and dual-emitting characteristics of Finally, the fluorescence enhancement mechanisms indicate that the excellent fluorescence properties of as a self-calibrated sensor are mainly ascribed to energy transfer from carbaryl to and the photoinduced electron transfer from carbaryl to H4DDPP. At the same time, the relative standard deviation of for carbaryl in real samples is less than 4.44%, indicating that has excellent sensing accuracy for carbaryl. Abstract:Water-soluble non-conjugated polymer dots (PDs) have been synthesized using hyperbranched polyethyleneimine (PEI) and dihydroxybenzaldehyde (DHB) for the first time via the Schiff base reaction at room temperature. The yielded non-conjugated PDs of PEI-DHB could display the well-defined spheric structure and good water solubility. In contrast to the common PDs otherwise showing blue emission, the PEI-DHB PDs could give out strong green fluorescence in aqueous media. Especially, the fluorescence of the PEI-DHB PDs could be specifically quenched by MnO2 nanosheets through the inner filter effects and further restored by the thiocholine that could reduce MnO2 nanosheets into Mn2+. Herein, thiocholine could be produced in hydrolysis reaction of acetylthiocholine catalyzed by the acetylcholinesterase (AChE), of which the catalytic activity could be irreversibly inhibitted by the introduction of organophosphates. A highly selective fluorimetric method was thereby been developed for the detection of organophosphorus pesticides using dimethyl-dichloro-vinyl phosphate as a model. The linear concentrations ranges from 0.050 to 2.5 μM. Importantly, the non-conjugated PDs probes with strong green fluorescence and high water solubility may promise the extensive applications in the environmental, food, and clinical analysis fields.
High-performance liquid chromatographic assay of dichlorvos, isocarbophos and methyl parathion from plant leaves using chemiluminescence detection

Abstract:A high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method has been developed for the detection of organic phosphorous insecticides (dichlorvos(DDVP), isocarbophos and methyl parathion). In addition to a traditional method using UV detection, we developed an alternative method based on chemiluminescent reaction of organic phosphorous insecticides with luminol and hydrogen peroxide. The sample containing organic phosphorous insecticides was injected into a Hypersil ODS column (5μm 4.6×100mm) and eluted with methanol:water (60:40 (v/v)). The chemiluminescence (CL) response is linear to the concentration of DDVP, isocarbophos and methyl parathion, respectively. Most metal ions and organic compounds tested do not interfere with the determination.
Potential Biomarkers for Early Detection of 3-MCPD Dipalmitate Exposure in Sprague-Dawley Rats

Abstract:3-Chloro-1,2-propandiol (3-MCPD) dipalmitate is one of the major 3-MCPD esters formed during food processing. In this single-dose study, the metabonomic profile changes in the 48 h after orally administrated 3-MCPD dipalmitate at 1600 mg/kg BW to Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were determined with liquid chromatography (LC) coupled with mass spectrometry (MS) system. The chemical structures of 12 potential biomarkers for 3-MCPD dipalmitate exposures early detection were detected and tentatively identified from the plasma of SD rats, including indoxyl sulfate, phenol sulfate, p-cresol sulfate, 2-phenylethanol glucuronide, p-cresol glucuronide, p-cresol, allantoin, phenylacetylglycine, pyrocatechol sulfate, phenyllactic acid, 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid, and creatinine. Taking into account the metabolites identified from SD rats' kidney, liver, testes, and spleen samples, 3-MCPD dipalmitate might potentially disturb the phenylalanine, tryptophan, tyrosine, glycine, fatty acid, and purine metabolisms. The results suggested that the 12 plasma metabolites could be potentially applied in detecting the early exposures of 3-MCPD esters.
Improvement of a GC–MS analytical method for the simultaneous detection of 3-MCPD and 1,3-DCP in food

Abstract:Chloropropanols such as 3-monochloropropane-1,2-diol (3-MCPD) and 1,3-dichloropropan-2-ol (1,3-DCP) are produced by heat treatment in the presence of fat and hydrochloric acid during the manufacture of food stuffs such as hydrolyzed vegetable protein and soy sauce. 3-MCPD and 1,3-DCP have been detected in several foods. An efficient, highly selective GC–MS method was developed to determine the concentration of 3-MCPD and 1,3-DCP in food. Calibration curves for 3-MCPD and 1,3-DCP were constructed, and a correlation of determination (r2) ≥ 0.9990 was obtained. The limits of detection and quantitation for 3-MCPD in food were 0.6 and 2.0 µg/kg, respectively, and those for 1,3-DCP were 0.2 and 0.6 µg/kg, respectively. To the best of our knowledge, this GC–MS-based method is a newly improved analytical procedure for the simultaneous separation and determination of 3-MCPD and 1,3-DCP, at once and at low levels (µg/kg).

Abstract:In this article, we report the synthesis and characterization of a highly luminescent conjugated microporous polycarbazole (CK-CMP) by FeCl3-induced oxidative polymerization of 1,3,6,8-tetrakis(4-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)phenyl)pyrene (L). The CK-CMP with small pore sizes exhibits good thermal stability and high luminescence when suspended in polar solvents upon irradiation by UV light, which can be applied to detect 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (PA) with good sensitivity and selectivity by fluorescence quenching.

Abstract:A new material-poly{methyl[3-(2-hydroxy-3,4-difluoro)phenyl]propyl siloxane}(PMDFPS) sensitive to toxic organophosphate vapor was synthesized with 2,3-difluorophenol, allyl bromide and poly (methyl hydrosiloxane) as raw materials, via O-alkylation, Claisen rearrange reaction and hydrosilylation reaction. This novel material was then coated on a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) to investigate its gas sensitive properties to the nerve agent simulant dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP) vapor, as well as known interfering vapors. When tested with competing vapors, the sensor was more than 10 times sensitive to DMMP than to other interfering vapors. Thus, high selectivity of poly{methyl[3-(2-hydroxy-3,4-difluoro)phenyl]propyl siloxane} to DMMP was demonstrated. The poly{methyl[3-(2-hydroxy-3,4-difluoro)phenyl]propyl siloxane}-QCM sensor responded linearly to DMMP vapor with a slope of 14 Hz/ppm in the 1-50 ppm range with a detection limit of 0.21 ppm (S/N=3).
