Abstract:OBJECTIVE The study aimed to investigate the correlation between general self-efficacy( GSE), perceived availability of social support(PASS), and subjective well-being(SWB) among middle school students, so to provide a reference for the development of mental health education programs for middle school students. METHODS 1 369 middle school students from 4 middle schools in Xinjiang were surveyed using the GSE, PASS, and SWB assessments. RESULTS( 1)GSE scores of male students were significantly higher than that of female students(t = 4.60, P = 0.000 ﹤ 0.01), while female students scored significantly higher in PASS than male students(t =-3.21, P = 0.001 ﹤ 0.05); differences in PASS and SWB between students in different grades were significant(F = 3.45-8.41, P﹤ 0.05).(2) GSE, PASS, and related factors were positively correlated with overall SWB and related factors(except concern over health)(r = 0.083-0.369, P﹤0.01), and negative correlation was observed between GSE, PASS, and related factors(except friend support) and concern over health(r =-0.157 to-0.060, P﹤0.01).(3) GSE and PASS were significantly predictive of SWB among middle school students(Beta = 0.067-0.369, r = 2.154-14.324, P﹤ 0.05). CONCLUSION Subjective well-being is strongly correlated with general self-efficacy and perceived availability of social support among middle school students.
