Abstract:Gothic literature in general and Gothic fiction, in particular, can be defined as a literary piece of writing that uses dark scenery and a whole atmosphere of exoticism, mystery, fear, and terror. This paper aims to explore the elements of Gothic complex spectrality in Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights (1847). The novel, known for being one of the greatest love stories ever published, explored many Gothic elements that added a sense of fear and terror to its plot. The Gothic factors were not traditional or similar to other Gothic fiction, even though Brontë was greatly influenced by Gothic fiction in her childhood. Nevertheless, she had created her Gothic world that broke the confines of the traditional and resulted in Wuthering Heights, which is still a topic of interest after more than centuries of its creation.

Abstract:Emily Bronte’s novel, Wuthering Heights, is a gothic novel with an innovative stance. Gothic elements permeate the story, but it is not a gothic novel in the traditional sense of the word. The fantastic tales so popular in the eighteenth century alienated the reader by creating phantasmagorical worlds. Emily Bronte, however, grounded her gothic world firmly in reality. Through an analytical approach, the author aims to show, in this article, how Emily Bronte reversed gothic conventions to create a gothic reality whose message is still relevant today. The author will show that her use of the gothic mode was an attempt to capture the real essence of life, anticipating the metaphysical theories of D. H. Lawrence, who wrote at the end of the nineteenth century. By highlighting her innate understanding of human nature , this article will focus on her affinity with Lawrence and the celebration of man’s powerful primal instincts. This article hinges on the premise that she deplored the mechanical restrictions of the society in which she lived. The author aims to show that her Gothicism is, paradoxically, synonymous with a search for life.

Abstract:The current study attempts to uncover Gothic structures of being in Emily Bronte’s novel ‘Wuthering Heights’. The Gothic could be seen as illustrating a comeback to the mystery of the Middle Ages. We see mystery as a search for the unknown, unconscious part of the being. According to Jung, our past is always underlying the structure of our being, lurking beneath the rational, conscious mind. It is a pivotal part of our spirit, as, ‘…Without these inferior levels, our spirit is left hanging in the air’ (Jung, 1997: 41). Jung states that there is a sort of primitive fear regarding the possible contents of the unconscious, a secret terror towards the ‘perils of the soul’ (Jung, 1997: 20). It is these ‘perils’ we are trying to shed light on in the current paper, in the hope of presenting a reading of the novel that will enrich its meaning and clarify some of the mythical patterns which form the basis of the story.

Abstract:This project delves into the relationship between the novel Wuthering Heights, her author Emily Brontë and Imperialism. Drawing on her historical context and the several clues left in her novel, it tries to raise a discussion on the reasons why such a debate could be established and, furthermore, it advocates for a position in which it is asseverated that the text contests the Imperial bias of the time. In addition, not only does it talk about the content of the novel but about the genre and aesthetic chosen as well. As a way to culminate the project, a relationship between the Gothic and Imperialism is established. Or in other words, the final section closes elaborating on how they converge and why the particular shades of the cited genre seem an appropriate manner to follow the critical tone of the novel.

Abstract:Underpinned by certain Female Gothic elements, Emily Brontë, the maverick female writer in the 19th century, unmasked in her novel Wuthering Heights the increasingly intense alienation in spaces of intimacy as a result of the male-dominated social structure and its ruthless constraints on women, which deprived the fair sex of sense of safety and comfort in the domestic spheres and even provoked their desire for escaping. Her portrait of the three Gothic female characters and the crafting of a Female Gothic ending indicated possible ways to wrestle against the alienation together with the gender-biased hierarchy and led to a reexamination of marriage and family, calling for a soothing mental intimacy preserved through gender equality and personality of intactness and independence.

Abstract:This paper thoroughly analyses the theme of the gothic imagination in the works of Charlotte, Emily and Anne Bronte, specifically in Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. The novels portray romantic and sublime scenes with elements of terror, horror, and the uncanny, which contribute to the gothic feelings experienced by the characters. The study also explores women's suffering in the context of gothic thought. Various factors inherent to the gothic genre actually contribute to the 19th century readers’ fascination with the supernatural and thrilling emotions. This work explores gothic experiences depicted in novels using gothic tropes and critical approaches such as Marxism, feminism, or psychoanalysis. The use of the framing narrative technique remains a distinctive aspect of this study which worthily includes The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, a book that many critics have wrongly overlooked when interpreting the Bronte sisters’ novels in the light of the gothic trend. The analysis considers the common gothic features that characterise the novels, rather than treating them separately. This reinforces and enhances the scope of the analysis of the Gothic vision of these Victorian novelists.

Abstract:Wuthering Heights which has long been one of the most popular and highly acclaimed novels in English Literature, seemed to hold little promise when it was published in 1847, selling very poorly and receiving only a few mixed reviews. Victorian readers found the book shocking and inappropriate in its depiction of passionate, ungoverned love and cruelty (despite the fact that the novel portrays no sex or bloodshed), and the work was virtually ignored. Today, Wuthering Heights has a secure position in the cannon of world literature, and Emily Bronte is revered as one of the finest writers- male or female of the 19th century. Wuthering Heights is based on partly on the Gothic tradition of the late 18th century, a style of literature that featured supernatural encounters, crumbling ruins, moonless nights and grotesque imagery, seeking to create the effects of misery and fear. But Wuthering Heights transcends its genre in its sophisticated observation and artistic subtlety. The novel has been studied, analyzed, dissected, and discussed from every imaginable critical perspective, yet it remains unexhausted. And while the novel’s symbolism, themes, structure, and language may all spark fertile exploration, the bulk of its popularity may rest on its unforgettable characters. As a shattering presentation of the doomed love affair between the fiercely passionate Catherine and Heath cliff, it remains one of the most haunting love stories in all of literature. This paper discusses the employment of concentric narrative technique in Wuthering Heights. Concentric narrative technique is a narrative technique in which so many narratives are embedded with each other. This kind of narrative technique is employed by Jeffrey Chaucer in Canterbury Tales , Mary Shelley in Frankenstein , Henry James in Turn of the Screw , Joseph Conrad in Heart of Darkness .

Abstract:Wuthering Heights novel was written by Emily Bronte. It was published by T.C. Newby in 1947.Wuthering Heights was a famous novel from the Victorian era. The novel’s story telling method was innovative in that time. The novel is filled with love, revenge, nature, social class and passion. Super natural elements also present in this novel. The plot follows Earnshaws who lived in Wuthering Heights and Lintons who lived in Thrushcross Grange, respectively. Mr. Earnshaw had two children, Catherine and Hindly, and adopted Heathcliff as his own. Hindly illtreats the gothic protagonist Heathcliff. Catherine and Heathcliff fell in love but the family refused to marry due to his lower caste status. The vital theme of this novel is power and inequality. The tale concludes with Heathcliff exacting his retribution on the next generation of the two families. Nelly, Heathcliff’s servant, witnessed the story silently throughout the entire novel.

Abstract:One of the interesting things about Wuthering Heights (1847) is the extent to which books play their part both structurally and thematically. Thus, as well as underlining the marked social differences between the two main households depicted, they help to enlighten us on the mentality of some of the central figures. Notable in this respect are the ways in which the second Catherine (Cathy) uses her love of books to establish her social superiority, especially in her relationship with Hareton, which for a time makes her appear an unpleasant person. Cathy's bibliophily, moreover, stands in stark contrast with the more or less negative attitudes harboured towards books both by the first Catherine and by Heathcliff. This contrast has, in fact, induced some critics to regard their distaste for books as a positive feature, and to see Cathy's attempt to teach Hareton to read as a deplorable clipping of his wings. After tracing the multiple ways in which books illuminate the characters of Wuthering Heights and their relationships, this article concludes that, although the novel's most admired protagonists are notable book-haters, the bibliophile Cathy emerges in the end as a fully sympathetic character.

Abstract:Wuthering Heights is a remarkable saga of love and revenge, centered on the passionate character of Heathcliff. Being set in the Victorian era Wuthering Heights comprise of some elements of the Victorian society. The Victorian women were so fragile that they are always seen as a mere being that has confined within some expected rules or norms of the society. They neither have the rights to raise their voice against the ill treatment done by the patriarchal society nor are they being treated well. The women were always victimized and dominated by the patriarchal hegemony. In this context female characters in Wuthering Heights viz Catherine, Isabella, Cathy and Nelly were also victimized by the male hegemony. The female character though being victimized they do have some faulty according to the norms of the Victorian society. Hence, the female characters in the novel are not confirming the Victorian women flocks, but rather they are seen as reacting against the norms of gender.

Abstract:The elements of Victorian literature found in the novel Wuthering Heights were the greatest effects loved by the characters in the novel Wuthering Heights. The purpose of this study was to describe a reflection of the character types and Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory in Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights Novel. The author uses a qualitative method to clearly describe the results. The theory used in this study was Edgar V. Roberts' character analysis and Maslow's theory of need hierarchy. First, the author identifies the characters and then classifies all the data into the type of hierarchy of needs. The author analyze of the Heathcliff’s, Catherine’s, and Hindley’s on Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights, how could Abraham Maslow's theory analyze the characters in Heathcliff’s, Catherine’s, and Hindley’s on Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights. Based on the research, the author’s describe five hierarchy of need in Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights. They were physiological needs, safety needs, love and attribution needs, respect needs, and self-fulfillment needs. The characters were Heathcliff, Catherine, and Hindley. Heathcliff was arrogant and humble in the lasting fame and popularity of the novel. Catherine's Earnshaw is bohemian, beautiful, spoiled and often arrogant. Hindley relinquished control of family and arrogant.

Abstract:This research aims to describe the distinction or difference between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat which is described in Emily Bronte's novel Wuthering Heights which has a connection with one's social class. This research used the descriptive qualitative method. The approach used in this research is the sociology of literature approach with a focus on the study of social backgrounds. The data sources come from the novel Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. The data results are the form of sentences and paragraphs related to social class and social status. The data collection technique was done by observing the novel itself. Data analysis was performed by conducting a taxonomic analysis. The result of the research shows that the distinction of the bourgeoisie and the proletariat in Emily Bronte's novel Wuthering Heights lies in the power and wealth possessed by the bourgeoisie. Besides that, the way they look, behave, and speak reflects their social class. The proletariat is known as the workers. Meanwhile, the bourgeoisie is the people in power. This social class split occurred during the industrial revolution of the 19th century in England. Where these events also influenced the creation of the novel Wuthering Heights.
