Abstract:In this paper, we give a method to characterize graphs determined by their adjacency spectrum. At first, we give two parameters Π1(G) and Π2(G), which are related to coefficients of the characteristic polynomial of graph G. All connected graphs with Π1(G)∈{1,0,−1,−2,−3} and Π2(G)∈{0,−1,−2,−3} are characterized. Some interesting properties of Π1(G) and Π2(G) are also given. We then find the necessary and sufficient conditions for two classes of graphs to be determined by their adjacency spectrum.

Abstract:For a finite group G, the power graph P(G) is a simple connected graph whose vertex set is the set of elements of G and two distinct vertices x and y are adjacent if and only if xi = y or yj = x, for 2 ≤ i, j ≤ n. In this paper, we obtain the distance Laplacian spectrum of power graphs of finite groups such as cyclic groups, dihedral groups, dicyclic groups, abelian groups and elementary abelian p groups. Moreover, we find the largest and second smallest distance Laplacian eigenvalue of power graphs of such groups.
On the distance spectral radius bounds and improved bounds on the spectral radius of power graphs of some finite groups

Abstract:We consider the group G and construct its power graph, whose vertex set consists of the elements of G. Two distinct vertices (elements) are adjacent in the graph if and only if one element can be expressed as an integral power of the other. In the paper (Indagationes Mathematicae 29(2) (2018), pp 730 t0 737), Chattopadhyay et al. gave spectral radius bounds of the power graph of certain finite groups. In this article, we improved the bounds of the spectral radius of the power graphs of the above results. Furthermore, we provide bounds for the distance spectral radius of the power graph of the cyclic group Cn, the dihedral group D2n, and the dicyclic group Q4n. For some cases, we find the bounds are exact if and only if they pertain to a particular family of graphs.

Abstract:Let G be a graph with n vertices, let A(G) be an adjacency matrix of G and let P-A(G,lambda) be the characteristic polynomial of A(G). The adjacency spectrum of G consists of eigenvalues of A(G). A graph G is said to be determined by its adjacency spectrum (DS for short) if other graphs with the same adjacency spectrum as G are isomorphic to G. In this paper, we investigate the spectral characterization of unicycle graphs with only two vertices of degree three. We use G(21)(s(1),s(2)) to denote the graph obtained from Q(s(1),s(2)) by identifying its pendant vertex and the vertex of degree two of P-3, where Q(s(1),s(2)) is the graph obtained by identifying a vertex of C-s1 and a pendant vertex of P-s2. We use G(31)(t(1),t(2)) to denote the graph obtained from circle with the vertices v(0)v(1)...v(t1+t2+1) by adding one pendant edge at vertices v(0) and v(t1+1), respectively. It is shown that G(21)(s(1),s(2)) (s(1)not equal 4,6, s(1)>= 3, s(2)>= 3) and G(31)(t(1),t(2)) (t(1)+t(2)not equal 2, t(2)>= t(1)>= 1) are determined by their adjacency spectrum.
Distance matrix of enhanced power graphs of finite groups

Abstract:The enhanced power graph of a group $G$ is the graph $\mathcal{G}_E(G)$ with vertex set $G$ and edge set $ \{(u,v): u, v \in \langle w \rangle,~\mbox{for some}~ w \in G\}$. In this paper, we compute the spectrum of the distance matrix of the enhanced power graph of non-abelian groups of order $pq$, dihedral groups, dicyclic groups, elementary abelian groups $\mathrm{El}(p^n)$ and the non-cyclic abelian groups $\mathrm{El}(p^n)\times\mathrm{El}(q^m)$ and $\mathrm{El}(p^n)\times \mathbb{Z}_m$, where $p$ and $q$ are distinct primes. For the non-cyclic abelian group $\mathrm{El}(p^n)\times \mathrm{El}(q^m)$, we also compute the spectrum of the adjacency matrix of its enhanced power graph and the spectrum of the adjacency and the distance matrix of its power graph.

Abstract:The power graph $\mathscr{P}(G)$ of a group $G$ is an undirected graph with all the elements of $G$ as vertices and where any two vertices $u$ and $v$ are adjacent if and only if $u=v^m $ or $v=u^m$, $ m \in$ $\mathbb{Z}$. For a simple graph $H$ with adjacency matrix $A(H)$ and degree diagonal matrix $D(H)$, the universal adjacency matrix is $U(H)= \alpha A(H)+\beta D(H)+ \gamma I +\eta J$, where $\alpha (\neq 0), \beta, \gamma, \eta \in \mathbb{R}$, $I$ is the identity matrix and $J$ is the all-ones matrix of suitable order. One can study many graph-associated matrices, such as adjacency, Laplacian, signless Laplacian, Seidel etc. in a unified manner through the universal adjacency matrix of a graph. Here we study universal adjacency eigenvalues and eigenvectors of power graphs, proper power graphs and their complements on the group $\mathbb{Z}_n$, dihedral group ${D}_n$, and the generalized quaternion group ${Q}_n$. Spectral results of no kind for the complement of power graph on any group were obtained before. We determine the full spectrum in some particular cases. Moreover, several existing results can be obtained as very specific cases of some results of the paper.

Abstract:Let G be a connected graph with distance matrix be the diagonal matrix of vertex transmissions of G. For any , the -matrix of G is defined as D-alpha(G) = alpha Tr(G) + (1 - alpha) D(G). In this paper, we study the -spectra of graphs. Firstly, the -eigenvalues of some special graphs are presented. Then we give a lower bound on the kth smallest -eigenvalue of graphs, and the extremal graphs are characterized. Also, several graph transformations on the -spectral radius are given, as applications, some extremal graphs with given structure parameters are characterized. Finally, we give some properties when two graphs have the same -spectra and several graphs are proved to be determined by their -spectra.

Abstract:In Wang and Xu (2006) [15,16] the authors introduced a family of graphs H"n and gave some methods for finding graphs among this family that are determined by their generalized spectra. This paper is a continuation of our previous work. We further show that almost all graphs in H"n are determined by their generalized spectra. This gives some evidences for the conjecture that almost all graphs are determined by their generalized spectra.

Abstract:The power graph of a group omega is a graph, whose node set is omega and two distinct elements are adjacent if and only if one is an integral power of the other. A metric dimension of a graph Gamma, denoted by psi(Gamma) is the minimum cardinality of the resolving set of Gamma. In this context, we study distant properties and detour distant properties such as closure, interior, distance degree sequence and eccentric subgraphs of the power graphs of certain finite non-abelian groups. As a consequence, we figure out the metric dimension and resolving polynomial of power graphs for dihedral and generalized quaternion groups by using neighbourhood and twin sets.

Abstract:Characterizing graphs by the spectra of various matrices associated with the graphs has long been an important topic in spectral graph theory. However, it is generally very hard to show a given graph to be determined by its spectrum. This paper gives a simple criterion for a tournament to be determined by its adjacency spectrum. More precisely, let G be a tournament of order n with adjacency matrix A, and WA(G)=[e,Ae,...,An−1e] be its walk matrix, where e is the all-one vector. We show that, for any self-converse tournament G, if det⁡WA(G) is square-free, then G is uniquely determined by its adjacency spectrum among all tournaments. The result is somewhat unexpected, which was achieved by employing some recent tools developed by the second author for showing a graph to be determined by its generalized spectrum. The key observation is that for a tournament G, the complement of G coincides with the converse of G, and hence a certain equivalence between the ordinary adjacency spectrum and the generalized (skew)-adjacency spectrum for G can be established. Moreover, some equivalent formulations of the above result, as well as some related ones are also presented.

Abstract:Let D(G) be the distance matrix of a connected graph G and Ai(D)≥ ?? ≥An(D) be the eigenvalues of D(G).The study of distance eigenvalues can be traced back to the work of Graham and Pollack [Bell Syst.Tech.J.,1971,50:2495-2519] in which they described a relationship between the number of negative distance eigenvalues and the addressing problem in data communication system.In 2014,Aouchiche and Hansen gave a survey [Linear Algebra Appl.,2014,458:301-386] on various properties of distance eigenvalues.In this paper,we report new progress on the distance eigenvalues of graphs from 2014 to 2020.

Abstract:Given a graph $A$ on a group $G$ and an equivalence relation $B$ on $G$, the $B$ super$A$ graph, whose vertex set is $G$ and two vertices $g$, $h$ are adjacent if and only if there exist $g^{\prime} \in[g]$ and $h^{\prime} \in[h]$ such that $g^{\prime}$ and $h^{\prime}$ are adjacent in $A$. Recently, Dalal \emph{et al.} (Spectrum of super commuting graphs of some finite groups, \textit{Computational and Applied Mathematics}, 43(6):348, 2024) obtain the Laplacian spectrum of supercommuting graphs of certain non-abelian groups including the dihedral group and the generalized quaternion group. In this paper, we continue the study of Laplacian spectrum of certian $B$ super$A$ graphs. We obtain the Laplacian spectrum of conjugacy superenhanced power graphs of certain non-abelian groups, namely: dihedral group, generalized quaternion group and semidihedral group. Moreover to enhance the work of Dalal \emph{et al}, we obtain the Laplacian spectrum of conjugacy supercommuting graph of semidihedral group. We prove that graphs considered in this paper are $L$-integral.

Abstract:Spectral characterizations of graphs are an important topic in spectral graph theory, which has received a lot of attention in recent years. It is generally very hard to show that a given graph is determined by its spectrum. Recently, Wang [9] gave a simple arithmetic condition for graphs being determined by their generalized spectra. Let G be a graph on n vertices with adjacency matrix A, and W = [e, Ae, ..., An-1e] (e is the all-one vector) be the walk-matrix of G. A theorem of Wang [9] states that if 2-tn/21 det W (which is always an integer) is odd and square-free, then G is determined by the generalized spectrum. In this paper, we find a new and short route which leads to a stronger version of the above theorem. The result is achieved by using the Smith Normal Form of the walk-matrix of G. The proposed method gives a new insight in dealing with the problem of generalized spectral characterization of graphs.(c) 2022 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Generalized spectral characterizations of almost controllable graphs

Abstract:Characterizing graphs by their spectra is an important topic in spectral graph theory, which has attracted a lot of attention of researchers in recent years. It is generally very hard and challenging to show a given graph to be determined by its spectrum. In Wang~[J. Combin. Theory, Ser. B, 122 (2017):438-451], the author gave a simple arithmetic condition for a family of graphs being determined by their generalized spectra. However, the method applies only to a family of the so called \emph{controllable graphs}; it fails when the graphs are non-controllable. In this paper, we introduce a class of non-controllable graphs, called \emph{almost controllable graphs}, and prove that, for any pair of almost controllable graphs $G$ and $H$ that are generalized cospectral, there exist exactly two rational orthogonal matrices $Q$ with constant row sums such that $Q^{\rm T}A(G)Q=A(H)$, where $A(G)$ and $A(H)$ are the adjacency matrices of $G$ and $H$, respectively. The main ingredient of the proof is a use of the Binet-Cauchy formula. As an application, we obtain a simple criterion for an almost controllable graph $G$ to be determined by its generalized spectrum, which in some sense extends the corresponding result for controllable graphs.

Spectral multiplicity functions of adjacency operators of graphs and cospectral infinite graphs

Abstract:The adjacency operator of a graph has a spectrum and a class of scalar-valued spectral measures which have been systematically analyzed; it also has a spectral multiplicity function which has been less studied. The first purpose of this article is to review some examples of infinite graphs for which the spectral multiplicity function of the adjacency operator has been determined. The second purpose of this article is to show explicit examples of infinite connected graphs which are cospectral, i.e., which have unitarily equivalent adjacency operators, and explicit examples of infinite connected graphs which are uniquely determined by their spectrum.

Abstract:The k -power hypergraph G(k) is the k -uniform hypergraph that is obtained by adding k−2 new vertices to each edge of a graph G , for k≥3 . A parity-closed walk in G is a closed walk that uses each edge an even number of times. In an earlier paper, we determined the eigenvalues of the adjacency tensor of G(k) using the eigenvalues of signed subgraphs of G . Here, we express the entire spectrum (that is, we determine all multiplicities and the characteristic polynomial) of G(k) in terms of parity-closed walks of G . Moreover, we give an explicit expression for the multiplicity of the spectral radius of G(k) . As a side result, we show that the number of parity-closed walks of given length is the corresponding spectral moment averaged over all signed graphs with underlying graph G . By extrapolating the characteristic polynomial of G(k) to k=2 , we introduce a pseudo-characteristic function which is shown to be the geometric mean of the characteristic polynomials of all signed graphs on G . This supplements a result by Godsil and Gutman that the arithmetic mean of the characteristic polynomials of all signed graphs on G equals the matching polynomial of G .

Spectral antisymmetry of twisted graph adjacency

Abstract:We address a prime counting problem across the homology classes of a graph, presenting a graph-theoretical Dirichlet-type analogue of the prime number theorem. The main machinery we have developed and employed is a spectral antisymmetry theorem, revealing that the spectra of the twisted graph adjacency matrices have an antisymmetric distribution over the character group of the graph. Additionally, we derive some trace formulas based on the twisted adjacency matrices as part of our analysis.

Abstract:"Which graphs are determined by their spectra (DS for short)?" is an important and challenging topic in spectral graph theory. Let G be an n -vertex graph with adjacency matrix A(G) and adjacency walk matrix WA(G)=[e,A(G)e,...,An−1(G)e] . We call G controllable if the rank of WA(G) is n over R and noncontrollable otherwise. In Wang (2017), the author gave a simple condition for a controllable graph to be determined by their generalized adjacency spectrum (DGAS for short). However, the result fails for noncontrollable graphs. In this paper, we consider the problem in the context of the generalized distance spectrum. Let G be a connected graph with distance matrix D . A graph G is determined by its generalized distance spectrum (DG D S for short) if any graph H sharing the same generalized distance spectrum with G must be isomorphic to G . The paper aims to extend the result in Wang (2017) from generalized adjacency spectrum to generalized distance spectrum. Besides, a simple arithmetic criterion is given to determine whether a connected graph is DG D S or not, which is applicable to some kind of noncontrollable graphs, e.g., regular graphs.
