Abstract:In order to study the regional Nanfeng Nuo culture artistic characteristics and charm, the development history of Nanfeng Nuo Nuo dance costumes, tracing and Nuo mask as a starting point, through field investigation and data acquisition, combined with professional academic works of Nanfeng Nuo culture artistic charm makes comments on the research objective. Abstract:One of the most popular folk operas in China is the Nuo opera. Nuo opera, which is distinguished by its distinct elements such as vicious masks, peculiar clothing and jewelry, peculiar language spoken during performances, and enigmatic scenarios, has been named one of China's intangible cultural legacies. The opera is a religious act that is fundamental to the Chinese folk religion known as Nuoism. Nuo opera is performed to ward off evil spirits, illnesses, and other influences. It also serves as a prayer request to the gods for favors. Nuo opera features singing and dancing, as well as masks and costumes for the performers. This research explores Nuo opera, a traditional performance art form that is deeply established in the cultural and social structure of Guizhou using a cross-disciplinary technique that unites art and culture. Sociocultural influence, the study examines how, in a setting that is changing quickly, Nuo Opera acts as an interface for social unity and cultural continuity. The distinct features that this culture exhibits, together with the numerous benefits that the society's sustained growth has brought subsequent such as cultural, social, and economic values, among other significant elements. Abstract:“Dongdongtui”, a kind of original sacrificial Nuo opera, was included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage protection list in 2006. It only exists in Tianjing village, Xinhuang Dong autonomous county, Hunan province. Previously, the researchers only focused on the study of the intangible cultural heritage value of “Dongdongtui” and the exploration of its inheritance and development. However, due to the internal and external resistance, the government has not achieved good results in the implementation of the action, and the people with insight are unable to protect it. The national inheritor is 90 years old. His disciples are not capable enough to take up the mantle. There are few new students, and the influence of “Dongdongtui” is very limited in the region. “Dongdongtui” is spiritually lack of attraction, penetration, social acceptance and so on. It is facing with a dilemma of inheritance and development. Based on these, we went to the village and got close to “Dongdongtui”, personally felt the charm of masks, costumes and performances, and inquired about its value. Finally, combining with local geography, culture and tourism resources, we tried to propose a new region-wide tourism strategy which is suitable for the development of “Dongdongtui”.

Abstract:The Great Nuo Picture《大傩图》collected by the Forbidden City in Beijing is a Song Dynasty genre painting, which depicts twelve people wearing strange costumes, wearing various hats, holding musical instruments or daily utensils, dancing and showing a joyful atmosphere. By interpreting the meaning of Nuo in various dynasties, it was determined that this was a Nuo opera activity that took place in the Jiangnan area during the Southern Song Dynasty. Based on the classification and research of the decorative patterns that appeared more frequently on the costumes of the characters in the painting, it was found that this may be a borrowed object from the painter. To express emotions, it expresses the expectation that the imperial court will regain its lost territory in the north as soon as possible. The painting not only has a strong atmosphere of the market, but also depicts exquisite and luxurious costumes. The fusion of two completely different artistic styles in the painting is obviously related to the special environment of the painters of the Southern Song Dynasty Painting Academy.

Abstract:The art of mask in Chinese culture is presented, the scenic image of which is the embodiment of theatrical art in the context of becoming a national identity. Cultural, historical, and art-based approaches have been used to enable an objective study of the historical and scientific aspects of the development of this art in China. The role of the mask in the performing arts is analyzed, which allows to evaluate its significance and functions in Chinese culture, forms, techniques and methods of using and creating the artistic image; artistic features and characteristic genre traits, productivity of use in national theater are revealed. It is well known that for centuries the mask has been an important attribute of theatrical spectacles, and in the form of tragic and comical grimaces has become an emblem of theatrical art as a whole. The semantics of this word indicate that the mask is functionally defined as the object by which the performer changes appearance. The article points out the peculiarities of figurative interpretation of universal formative properties of theatrical Chinese mask, which is still considered a separate type of visual culture, which played a special role in the development of artistic genres and styles, identified the main stages of certain artistic models of Eastern theater. The theatrical mask is described as a means of acting tools, an integral attribute of the stage action, a means of expressing the emotions of the character, the role and significance of the mask in the creation of the artistic and stage image are generalized. The purpose of the study is to present the main directions of scientific research of theatrical masks in Chinese culture in the context of the development of performing arts. And the task of the research is to present as accurately as possible the historical importance and natural necessity of the presence of a stage mask in traditional theatrical culture, its organicity in the creation of productions, high artistic value in revealing the image of Chinese theater characters.

Abstract:The rich development of Chinese traditional art and culture can be manifested in a wide variety of artistic presentations, including Chinese opera, puppet show, shadow play, acrobatic performance and dance, which reflect the life experience and cultural presentation of different historical periods. Among these art forms, Chinese opera has remained its popularity throughout time, and has evolved into a variety of forms, such as Beijing Opera, Kunqu opera, Shaoxing opera, Huangmei opera, and Sichuan opera. In order to explore the cultural value of Chinese opera, this paper discusses the lavishness of Beijing Opera from a design perspective. By exploring the artistic presentation of Beijing Opera, this paper finds that the movement, narration, cue, costume, stage props and masklike facial make-ups (Lianpu) in the performance all has its specific symbolic meanings and aesthetic content. Lines, patterns and color of mask-like facial makeup indicate the traits and dispositions of the characters, such as loyalty, wickedness, righteousness, and evilness, as well as the norms of interpersonal relationships in the Chinese culture and society. However, the technique of mask painting has gradually lost its ground in Chinese community..Therefore, the intriguing mask-like facial makeup, or Lianpu is an artistic technique worthy for modern people to cherish and preserve. This study aims to explore the mask-like facial makeup of Chinese Beijing Opera, analyze the meanings of different masks, establish the designing rules based on expert opinions, and applies such designing rules to fashion design. Followed by its conversion application into fashion accessories bring new insights to the art of Chinese opera and propose image transformation design as reference for culturaland creative design.

Abstract:The article examines the ancient and unique culture of the mask, analyzes the features of its perception, understanding and interpretation in different theatrical traditions of the West and East (ancient Greek tragedy, comedy dell'arte, Chinese no-si theater, Peking opera, etc.). Particular attention is paid to how the mask is interpreted and used, based on tradition, to create and enhance stage effects and deepen meaningful symbolism in modern performances. The relevance of this work lies in the typology and classification of common and distinctive characteristics of similar, but at the same time unique artifacts of various theatrical cultures of the East and West on the example of the use of masks in productions in the past and present. Addressing this topic can help to establish intercultural ties, facilitate intercultural communication and reduce the degree of civilizational contradictions in a multipolar world. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the results of processing the original selection of case studies, scientific publications and literary sources. The purpose of the study is to search for the features of the perception and understanding of masks in various theatrical systems. To achieve this attitude, the history of masks in different countries, their semantics are analyzed, in particular, the ancient Chinese thermal culture and the ancient Greek theater, as well as the Italian comedy dell'arte are compared. In conclusion, we note that in different theatrical systems, the mask has unique symbols and uses. Thus, it reveals the complex and contradictory human nature, reveals the unknown and people's fear of reality, embodies and expresses emotions, provides the rhythm and sharpness of the development of the drama, deepens the meaning of ongoing events.

Abstract:The purpose of the article is to identify and systematize a complex of historical, cultural and musical factors that caused the great popularity of the opera “Mulan Psalm” in China and the interest in this work of viewers from many countries on different continents. The methodology combines elements of the musicological complex (music-historical, music-performance methods) with historical, cultural and comparative methods, which allows us to analyze and compare the ancient text with the opera libretto, characterize the main means of expression used by the composer, define the historical and cultural background on which the opera was created, and describe the specifics of the opera’s portrayal of the main character, around whose fate the entire plot of the work is built. The results. Even the initial analysis of the opera by the prominent contemporary artist Guan Xia shows the multivariate interpretation of the image of the main character — one of the most famous characters of the ancient folk epic, as well as the possibility of finding hidden meaning in this masterpiece of modern Chinese opera, because with each new viewing or with each new production of “Mulan Psalm” and new actors performing the main roles, in particular, the three leading singers performing the role of Mulan, different facets of this heroine and the deeper meaning of the opera, which quickly crossed national borders and gained universal significance due to the involvement of its authors, directors and performers in the values that are eternally important to humanity, are revealed: patriotism, sacrifice for the sake of the homeland, and at the same time, sincere love, natural feelings, love for family, brothers in arms, and a loved one. Almost all of the characters are endowed with all of these traits, as there are virtually no negative characters in the opera, since the image of the enemy as such, as well as the enemy army, is not individualized but presented as a common evil that the characters fight and defeat. The practical significance of the article consists in understanding the significance of the opera “Mulan Psalm” in the operatic art of modern China and identifying the prospects of presenting the best achievements of Chinese artists in this genre on the world academic concert stage.

Through centuries of evolution and inheritance, it has developed into an aesthetic manifestation that combines historical culture with modern trends, with its performance costumes being particularly representative. This paper aims to analyze and summarize the expressive costumes, artistic features, and inherent folk culture of the current inheritance of "Nan Huan Nü Xi," delving into its geographical attributes, social background, and religious beliefs. The research demonstrates that while preserving the core elements of inheritance, the costumes of "Nan Huan Nü Xi" in Yixing constantly adjust themselves to the aesthetic tendencies of the era, reflecting the profound historical significance and vitality of folk dance represented by "Nan Huan Nü Xi," as well as the transition of traditional folk art from being "god-centered" to being "human-centered."

Abstract:In traditional Chinese culture, Exorcising mask is an intuitive artistic symbol of China's intangible cultural heritage and contains unique national characteristics. Therefore, the purpose of the research is to explore design methods for analyzing and classifying public needs, and through the combination of artistic design and digital platform to realize the innovative design and application of Exorcising mask technology, so as to effectively promote the protection, dissemination and innovation of traditional Exorcising mask craftsmanship. The research method is to establish a user emotional demand model for Exorcising mask products from the three levels of instinct, behavior and reflection of the emotional design theory, and use the KANO model to perform data verification and function sorting on the established model, and design new digital platforms and traditional images based on the analysis results. The research conclusion is that the combination of design and technology achieves a diversified approach to traditional handicrafts. The design method of analyzing and classifying public needs using the KANO model can accurately discover the real emotional needs of the public, and provide direction and data support for the design of traditional Exorcising mask art products.

Abstract:Sichuan Opera is a traditional Chinese opera in Chongqing. It is the most well-known local opera in Sichuan and a cultural symbol. This is a cultural symbol passed down through generations of performers. This makeup reflects the personality traits and aesthetic sensibilities of the Sichuan people, as well as the traditional Chinese opera facial makeup art. As a result, Sichuan Opera distinguishes itself from other operas and has become a global symbol of China's strength and resilience. Sichuan Opera facial makeup has a distinct artistic shape, vibrant colours, and intricate decorative patterns. Through their facial makeup, the characters' invisible, abstract and complex inner worlds, thoughts and emotions are displayed incisively and vividly. The pattern design of Sichuan Opera facial makeup reflects the artist's perception of life and opera characters, and it has both artistic and practical value. This paper aims to uncover the artistic value of the Sichuan Opera facial mask's graphic expression through a detailed analysis of the facial makeup structure, lines, and colours. It is no longer limited to opera, but is now widely used as a modelling tool in modern design.

Abstract:The Nuosu are a subgroup of the so-called Yi ethnic group. Today around two million Nuosu live in Liangshan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province and translocal urban contexts, such as Chengdu and Beijing. For many centuries, the Nuosu have cultivated a belief system composed of a combination of animism and ancestor worship. Since the resurrection of religious activity across China that began in the early 1980s, this faith – represented by the three types of religious practitioners known as bimo, sunyi, and monyi – has reportedly been experiencing a comprehensive revival at folk level. For the bimo, this revival has been paralleled and increasingly overlaid by a scholarly reappraisal of Nuosu religion under premises other than religious. Bimo practice and identity have thus become subsumed under the illustrious concept of “bimo culture”. In this article, I trace the genealogy of the concept of “bimo culture” as part of a cultural canon of and for the Yi which is intended to promote development at the local level but which is also contributing to a weakening of the status of the bimo and Nuosu ritual life in Liangshan today.

Abstract:The article provides a general characteristic of artistic features of the mask and theatrical make-up in the cultural traditions of Europe, China and Japan. Through comparative analysis, common and distinct facets of classification, semantics, and modelling were identified. The transcultural essence of mask art, anchored in ancient rituals and its role in both historical and modern scenography, represents a profound phenomenon. The triadic territorial research methodology proves efficacious for curating contemporary theatrical collections and designing gift products The research aims to present the evolution of the art of the theatrical mask in European, Chinese and Japanese culture in the context of artistic peculiarities, stylistics and the observed interrelationship. One of the key perspectives for future research is to expand the analysis of other cultural traditions and examine their interaction and influence on mask art. However, it should be noted that the emphasis of this study is on the artistic attributes of masks, while not taking into account such components as the sociological or psychological contexts of the attitude to masks in different cultures.
