Abstract:India's commitment towards achieving its environmental goals initiatives on various international platforms and its aspiration to emerge as 'Climate Power' is praiseworthy. To complement India's target of achieving 'Carbon Neutrality', numerous government organisations are incorporating fundamental structural changes heading towards decarbonisation. The Indian defence forces are known for impeccable professional records, and also for its cantonments which are clean, green and well organised. The ongoing combat against climate change offers defence forces excellent opportunity to accelerate transition of 'green cantonments' into 'Net zero localities', in synchronisation with India's goal which will set an excellent example for corporate houses and government organisations to emulate upon. This study introduces novel concept, in India which is to transform Indian defence residential areas into 'Net zero carbon localities' by adopting integrated approach of green technologies. To propose the path, military station in Mumbai with higher population density is selected as a case study without touching any security related issues. As per existing scenario, the emissions of cantonment are calculated and subsequently compared with emissions which are found to have extensively reduced after incorporation of modern green technologies. The study gives out realistic phased manner implementation plan for achieving carbon neutrality in 7 years with 85.55% of emission reductions in study area. Based on the model study of Mumbai military station, similar series of integrated measures are proposed for implementing across military stations in India which would significantly reduce emissions and multifold number of 'Net Zero' localities thus strengthening image of defence forces as 'Climate Warriors'.
