Abstract:By using optimal mass transport theory, we provide a direct proof to the sharp $L^p$-log-Sobolev inequality $(p\geq 1)$ involving a log-concave homogeneous weight on an open convex cone $E\subseteq \mathbb R^n$. The perk of this proof is that it allows to characterize the extremal functions realizing the equality cases in the $L^p$-log-Sobolev inequality. The characterization of the equality cases is new for $p\geq n$ even in the unweighted setting and $E=\mathbb R^n$. As an application, we provide a sharp weighted hypercontractivity estimate for the Hopf-Lax semigroup related to the Hamilton-Jacobi equation, characterizing also the equality cases.

Abstract:Given p , N > 1 , we prove the sharp L p -log-Sobolev inequality on noncompact metric measure spaces satisfying the CD ( 0 , N ) condition, where the optimal constant involves the asymptotic volume ratio of the space. This proof is based on a sharp isoperimetric inequality in CD ( 0 , N ) spaces, symmetrization, and a careful scaling argument. As an application we establish a sharp hypercontractivity estimate for the Hopf–Lax semigroup in CD ( 0 , N ) spaces. The proof of this result uses Hamilton–Jacobi inequality and Sobolev regularity properties of the Hopf–Lax semigroup, which turn out to be essential in the present setting of nonsmooth and noncompact spaces. Moreover, a sharp Gaussian-type L 2 -log-Sobolev inequality and a hypercontractivity estimate are obtained in RCD ( 0 , N ) spaces. Our results are new, even in the smooth setting of Riemannian/Finsler manifolds. In particular, an extension of the celebrated rigidity result of Ni (2004) [55] on Riemannian manifolds will be a simple consequence of our sharp log-Sobolev inequality.

Logarithmic-Sobolev inequalities on non-compact Euclidean submanifolds: sharpness and rigidity

Abstract:The paper is devoted to provide Michael-Simon-type $L^p$-logarithmic-Sobolev inequalities on complete, not necessarily compact $n$-dimensional submanifolds $\Sigma$ of the Euclidean space $\mathbb R^{n+m}$. Our first result, stated for $p=2$, is sharp, it is valid on general submanifolds, and it involves the mean curvature of $\Sigma$. It implies in particular the main result of S. Brendle [Comm. Pure Appl. Math.}, 2022]. In addition, it turns out that equality can only occur if and only if $\Sigma$ is isometric to the Euclidean space $\mathbb R^{n}$ and the extremizer is a Gaussian. The second result is a general $L^p$-logarithmic-Sobolev inequality for $p\geq 2$ on Euclidean submanifolds with constants that are codimension-free in case of minimal submanifolds. In order to prove the above results - especially, to deal with the equality cases - we elaborate the theory of optimal mass transport on submanifolds between measures that are not necessarily compactly supported. Applications are provided to sharp hypercontractivity estimates of Hopf-Lax semigroups on submanifolds. The first hypercontractivity estimate is for general submanifolds with bounded mean curvature vector, the second one is for self-similar shrinkers endowed with the natural Gaussian measure. The equality cases are characterized here as well.

Sharp defective log-Sobolev inequalities on H-type groups

Abstract:In this paper we prove a sharp defective log-Sobolev inequality on H-type groups. Then we use such an inequality to show exponential integrability of Lipschitz functions with respect to the heat kernel measure. A defective log-Sobolev-type inequality for the Gaussian-like measure with respect to the sub-Riemannian distance is also proved on arbitrary H-type groups.

Abstract:We establish some sharp affine weighted L 2 Sobolev inequalities on the upper half space, which involves a divergent operator with degeneracy on the boundary. Moreover, for some certain exponents cases, we also characterize the extremal functions and best constants. Our approach only relies on the L 2 structure of gradient norm, affine invariance and a class of weighted L 2 Sobolev inequality on the upper half space. This is a simple approach which does not depend on the geometric structure of Euclidean space such as Brunn–Minkowski theory on convex geometry.

Abstract:We determine the sharp constants for the fractional Sobolev inequalities associated with the conformally invariant fractional powers $\mathcal{L}_{s}(0<s<1)$ of the sublaplacian on H-type groups. From these inequalities we derive a sharp log-Sobolev inequality by considering a limiting case and a sharp Sobolev trace inequality. Abstract:Communications in Contemporary Mathematics, Ahead of Print. In this paper, we establish some new functional inequalities of Adams' type for radial Sobolev spaces of second order with logarithmic weights. The sharpness of these inequalities is also discussed. These inequalities (which can be singular) are new and complete the existing literature concerning this topic of research. Finally, we will end this work with a concrete application of these new inequalities to study some singular elliptic nonlinear equations involving new type of exponential growth condition at infinity.

Our rigorous proof confirms the validity of this inequality and provides insights into the optimal nature of the critical constant and the exponent within the denominator. Furthermore, we apply this inequality to study a class of ordinary differential equations (ODEs), where we successfully derive both a concept of the weak solution and a comprehensive regularity theory.

Abstract:In this paper we show a number of logarithmic inequalities on several classes of Lie groups: log-Sobolev inequalities on general Lie groups, log-Sobolev (weighted and unweighted), log-Gagliardo–Nirenberg and log-Caffarelli–Kohn–Nirenberg inequalities on graded Lie groups. Furthermore, on stratified groups, we show that one of the obtained inequalities is equivalent to a Gross-type log-Sobolev inequality with the horizontal gradient. As a result, we obtain the Gross log-Sobolev inequality on general stratified groups but, very interestingly , with the Gaussian measure on the first stratum of the group. Moreover, our methods also yield weighted versions of the Gross log-Sobolev inequality. In particular, we also obtain new weighted Gross-type log-Sobolev inequalities on for arbitrary choices of homogeneous quasi-norms. As another consequence we derive the Nash inequalities on graded groups and an example application to the decay rate for the heat equations for sub-Laplacians on stratified groups. We also obtain weighted versions of log-Sobolev and Nash inequalities for general Lie groups.

Abstract:We prove a sharp quantitative version for the stability of the Sobolev inequality with explicit constants. Moreover, the constants have the correct behavior in the limit of large dimensions, which allows us to deduce an optimal quantitative stability estimate for the Gaussian log-Sobolev inequality with an explicit dimension-free constant. Our proofs rely on several ingredients such as competing symmetries, a flow based on continuous Steiner symmetrization that interpolates continuously between a function and its symmetric decreasing rearrangement, and refined estimates on the Sobolev functional in the neighborhood of the optimal Aubin--Talenti functions.

Abstract:In their seminal work, Cordero-Erausquin, Nazaret and Villani (Adv Math 182(2):307-332, 2004) proved sharp Sobolev inequalities in Euclidean spaces via Optimal Transport , raising the question whether their approach is powerful enough to produce sharp Sobolev inequalities also on Riemannian manifolds. By using -optimal transport approach, the compact case has been successfully treated by Cavalletti and Mondino (Geom Topol 21:603-645, 2017), even on metric measure spaces verifying the synthetic lower Ricci curvature bound. In the present paper we affirmatively answer the above question for noncompact Riemannian manifolds with non-negative Ricci curvature; namely, by using Optimal Transport theory with quadratic distance cost, sharp -Sobolev and -logarithmic Sobolev inequalities (both for and ) are established, where the sharp constants contain the asymptotic volume ratio arising from precise asymptotic properties of the Talentian and Gaussian bubbles, respectively. As a byproduct, we give an alternative, elementary proof to the main result of do Carmo and Xia (Math 140:818-826, 2004) and subsequent results, concerning the quantitative volume non-collapsing estimates on Riemannian manifolds with non-negative Ricci curvature that support Sobolev inequalities.

Abstract:We investigate the weighted fractional order Hardy inequality $$ \int_{\Omega}\int_{\Omega}\frac{|f(x)-f(y)|^{p}}{|x-y|^{d+sp}}\text{dist}(x,\partial\Omega)^{-\alpha}\text{dist}(y,\partial\Omega)^{-\beta}\,dy\,dx\geq C\int_{\Omega}\frac{|f(x)|^{p}}{\text{dist}(x,\partial\Omega)^{sp+\alpha+\beta}}\,dx, $$ for $\Omega=\mathbb{R}^{d-1}\times(0,\infty)$, $\Omega$ being a convex domain or $\Omega=\mathbb{R}^d\setminus\{0\}$. Our work focuses on finding the best (i.e. sharp) constant $C=C(d,s,p,\alpha,\beta)$ in all cases. We also obtain weighted version of the fractional Hardy-Sobolev-Maz'ya inequality. The proofs are based on general Hardy inequalities and the non-linear ground state representation, established by Frank and Seiringer.
