Abstract:We prove that the metric tensor $g$ of a complete Riemannian manifold is uniquely determined, up to isometry, from the knowledge of a local source-to-solution operator. This later is associated to a fractional power of the Laplace-Belrami operator $\Delta_g$. Our result holds under the condition that the metric tensor $g$ is known in an arbitrary small subdomain. We also consider the case of closed manifolds and provide an improvement of the main result in \cite{FGKU}

Abstract:We study an analog of the anisotropic Calderón problem for fractional Schrödinger operators $(-\Delta_g)^\alpha + V$ with $\alpha \in (0,1)$ on closed Riemannian manifolds of dimensions two and higher. We prove that the knowledge of a Cauchy data set of solutions of the fractional Schrödinger equation, given on an open nonempty a priori known subset of the manifold determines both the Riemannian manifold up to an isometry and the potential up to the corresponding gauge transformation, under certain geometric assumptions on the manifold as well as the observation set. Our method of proof is based on: (i) studying a new variant of the Gel'fand inverse spectral problem without the normalization assumption on the energy of eigenfunctions, and (ii) the discovery of an entanglement principle for nonlocal equations involving two or more compactly supported functions. Our solution to (i) makes connections to antipodal sets as well as local control for eigenfunctions and quantum chaos, while (ii) requires sharp interpolation results for holomorphic functions. We believe that both of these results can find applications in other areas of inverse problems.

Abstract:We consider the fractional anisotropic Calderón problem for the nonlocal parabolic equation $(\partial_t -\Delta_g)^s u=f$ ($0<s<1$) on closed Riemannian manifolds. More concretely, we can determine the Riemannian manifold $(M,g)$ up to isometry by using the local source-to-solution map in an arbitrarily small open cylinder in the spacetime domain. This can be regarded as a nonlocal analog of the anisotropic Calderón problem in the parabolic setting. We also study several useful properties for nonlocal parabolic operators by using comprehensive spectrum analysis with semigroup theory.

Abstract:We relate the (anisotropic) variable coefficient local and nonlocal Calderón problems by means of the Caffarelli-Silvestre extension. In particular, we prove that (partial) Dirichlet-to-Neumann data for the fractional Calderón problem in three and higher dimensions determine the (full) Dirichlet-to-Neumann data for the local Calderón problem. As a consequence, any (variable coefficient) uniqueness result for the local problem also implies a uniqueness result for the nonlocal problem. Moreover, our approach is constructive and associated Tikhonov regularization schemes can be used to recover the data. Finally, we highlight obstructions for reversing this procedure, which essentially consist of two one-dimensional averaging processes.

Abstract:We introduce new types of fractional generalized elliptic operators on a compact Riemannian manifold with Clifford bundle. The theory is applicable in well-defined differential geometry. The Connes-Moscovici theorem gives rise to dimension spectrum in terms of residues of zeta functions, applicable in the presence of multiple poles. We have discussed the problem of scalar fields over the unit co-sphere on the cotangent bundle and we have evaluated the associated Dixmier traces as Wodzicki residues. It was observed the emergence of different types of elliptic operators, including inverse square, fractional and higher-order operators which are practical in various fields including cyclic cohomology and index problems in theoretical physics.

Abstract:The goal of this work is to prove global controllability and stabilization properties for the fractional Schrödinger equation on $d$-dimensional compact Riemannian manifolds without boundary $(M,g)$. To prove our main results we use techniques of pseudo-differential calculus on manifolds. More precisely, by using microlocal analysis, we are able to prove propagation of regularity which together with the so-called Geometric Control Condition and Unique Continuation Property help us to prove global control results for the system under consideration. As a main novelty this manuscript presents the relation between the geometric control condition and the controllability for the fractional Schrödinger equation.

On Instability Properties of the Fractional Calderón Problem

Abstract:We prove exponential instability properties for the fractional Calderón problem and the conductivity formulation of the fractional Calderón problem in the regime of fractional powers $s\in (0,1)$. We particularly focus on two settings: First, we discuss instability properties in general domain geometries with scaling critical $L^{\frac{n}{2s}}$ potentials and constant background metrics. Secondly, we investigate instability properties in general geometries with $L^{\frac{n}{2s}}$ potentials and low regularity, variable coefficient, possibly anisotropic background metrics. In both settings we make use of the methods introduced in \cite{KRS21} and we deduce strong compression estimates for the forward problem. In the first setting this is based on analytic smoothing estimates for a suitable comparison operator while in the second setting involving low regularity metrics this is based on an iterated compression gain. We thus generalize the results from \cite{RS18} to generic geometries and variable coefficients and further also discuss the setting of fractional conductivity equations. In particular, this proves that the logarithmic stability estimates for the fractional Calderón problem from \cite{RS20} are optimal.

Abstract:This article studies the canonical Hilbert energy $H^{s/2}(M)$ on a Riemannian manifold for $s\in(0,2)$, with particular focus on the case of closed manifolds. Several equivalent definitions for this energy and the fractional Laplacian on a manifold are given, and they are shown to be identical up to explicit multiplicative constants. Moreover, the precise behavior of the kernel associated with the singular integral definition of the fractional Laplacian is obtained through an in-depth study of the heat kernel on a Riemannian manifold. Furthermore, a monotonicity formula for stationary points of functionals of the type $$ \mathcal E(v)=[v]^2_{H^{s/2}(M)}+\int_M F(v) \, dV \,, \,\,\, F \ge 0 \,, $$ is given, which includes, in particular, the case of nonlocal $s$-minimal surfaces. Finally, we prove some estimates for the Caffarelli-Silvestre extension problem, which are of general interest.

Abstract:Fractional differential calculus is a mathematical tool that has found applications in the study of social and physical behaviors considered ``anomalous''. It is often used when traditional integer derivatives models fail to represent cases where the power law is observed accurately. Fractional calculus must reflect non-local, frequency- and history-dependent properties of power-law phenomena. This tool has various important applications, such as fractional mass conservation, electrochemical analysis, groundwater flow problems, and fractional spatiotemporal diffusion equations. It can also be used in cosmology to explain late-time cosmic acceleration without the need for dark energy. We review some models using fractional differential equations. We look at the Einstein--Hilbert action, which is based on a fractional derivative action, and add a scalar field, $\phi$, to create a non-minimal interaction theory with the coupling, $\xi R \phi^2 $, between gravity and the scalar field, where $\xi$ is the interaction constant. By employing various mathematical approaches, we can offer precise schemes to find analytical and numerical approximations of the solutions. Moreover, we comprehensively study the modified cosmological equations and analyze the solution space using the theory of dynamical systems and asymptotic expansion methods. This enables us to provide a qualitative description of cosmologies with a scalar field based on fractional calculus formalism.

Abstract:In this paper, a new class of Sobolev spaces with kernel function satisfying a L\'evy-integrability type condition on compact Riemannian manifolds is presented. We establish the properties of separability, reflexivity, and completeness. An embedding result is also proved. As an application, we prove the existence of solutions for a nonlocal elliptic problem involving the fractional $p(\cdot, \cdot)$-Laplacian operator. As one of the main tools, topological degree theory is applied.

Abstract:In this paper we prove two results. The first shows that the Dirichlet-Neumann map of the operator $\Delta_g+q$ on a Riemannian surface can determine its topological, differential, and metric structure. Earlier work of this type assumes a priori that the surface is a planar domain [36] or that the geometry is a priori known [29]. We will then apply this result to study a geometric inverse problem for determining minimal surfaces embedded in $3$-dimensional Riemannian manifolds. In particular we will show that knowledge of the volumes of embedded minimal surfaces determine not only their topological and differential structure but also their Riemannian structure as an embedded hypersurface. Such geometric inverse problems are partially inspired by the physical models proposed by the AdS/CFT correspondence. The crucial ingredient in removing the planar domain assumption is the determination of the boundary trace of holomorphic functions from knowledge of the Dirichlet-Neumann map of $\Delta_g +q$. This requires a new type of argument involving Carleman estimates and construction of CGO whose phase functions are not Morse as in the case of [29]. We anticipate that these techniques could be of use for studying other inverse problems in geometry and PDE.

Abstract:We consider the Calderón problem for systems with unknown zeroth and first order terms, and improve on previously known results. More precisely, let $(M, g)$ be a compact Riemannian manifold with boundary, let $A$ be a connection matrix on $E = M \times \mathbb{C}^r$ and let $Q$ be a matrix potential. Let $\Lambda_{A, Q}$ be the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map of the associated connection Laplacian with a potential. Under the assumption that $(M, g)$ is isometrically contained in the interior of $(\mathbb{R}^2 \times M_0, c(e \oplus g_0))$, where $(M_0, g_0)$ is an arbitrary compact Riemannian manifold with boundary, $e$ is the Euclidean metric on $\mathbb{R}^2$, and $c > 0$, we show that $\Lambda_{A, Q}$ uniquely determines $(A, Q)$ up to natural gauge invariances. This generalises earlier work of Eskin to anisotropic geometries. Moreover, we introduce new concepts of complex ray transform and complex parallel transport problem, and study their fundamental properties and relations to the Calderón problem.

Qualitative Theory of Dynamical Systems

Abstract:This research paper study the existence, uniqueness and Ulam–Hyers stability of the solutions of a certain system of thegeneralized Caputo fractional differential equations in the context of the generalized metric spaces. The existence and uniqueness theorems are proved by using the Krasnoselskii's and Perov's fixed point theorems under the Bielecki norm with a Lipschitzian matrix in the generalized metric spaces. Moreover, the Ulam–Hyers stability analysis is conducted based on the Urs's criterion. An example, lastly, is proposed to check the efficiency of the above-mentioned theorems. The results are novel and provide extensions to some of the findings known in the literature.

Abstract:We study the combined effect of concave and convex nonlinearities on the number of positive solutions for a fractional system involving critical Sobolev exponents. With the help of the Nehari manifold, we prove that the system admits at least two positive solutions when the pair of parameters $(\lambda,\mu)$ belongs to a suitable subset of $\R^2$.

Abstract:Mathematics has several uses for operators on bounded symmetric domains of Bergman spaces including complex geometry, functional analysis, harmonic analysis and operator theory. They offer instruments for examining the interaction between complex function theory and the underlying domain geometry. Here, we extend the Atangana-Baleanu fractional differential operator acting on a special type of class of analytic functions with the $ m $-fold symmetry characteristic in a bounded symmetric domain (we suggest the open unit disk). We explore the most significant geometric properties, including convexity and star-likeness. The boundedness in the weighted Bergman and the convex Bergman spaces associated with a bounded symmetric domain is investigated. A dual relations exist in these spaces. The subordination and superordination inequalities are presented. Our method is based on Young's convolution inequality.
