Abstract:we present a theoretical study of coincidence imaging and interference with coherent Gaussian beams. The equations for the coincidence image formation and interference fringes are derived, from which it is clear that the imaging is due to the corresponding focusing in the two paths. The quality and visibility of the images and fringes can be high simultaneously. The nature of the coincidence imaging and interference between quantum entangled photon pairs and coherent Gaussian beams are different. The coincidence image with coherent Gaussian beams is due to intensity-intensity correspondence, a classical nature, while that with entangled photon pairs is due to the amplitude correlation a quantum nature.

Abstract:Pseudo-thermal light is a regular source for correlated imaging.Compared to entangled twophoton source of quantum state,it can be easily obtained and used in correlation experiment.Pseudothermal light and entangled two-photon have certain similarities,especially in statistic characteristics of light field,which is closely related to the correlated calculation.When the quantum field is a coherent state or classically-random mixture of coherent states,statistic characteristics of the quantum field and classical field are all the same.The zero-mean Gaussian state can be used to describe fully the phase-insensitive coherence propagation of pseudo-thermal light.Based on this model,semi-classical detection theory of pseudo-thermal light is established.The correlation calculation formula of photocurrent in reference path and signal path are derived.The resolution and contrast of ghost imaging and view field of correlated imaging system are analyzed.

Abstract:Entangled-photon coincidence imaging is a method to nonlocally image an object by transmitting a pair of entangled photons through the object and a reference optical system, respectively. The image of the object can be extracted from the coincidence rate of these two photons. From a classical perspective, the image is proportional to the fourth-order correlation function of the wave field. Using classical statistical optics, we study a particular aspect of coincidence imaging with incoherent sources. As an application, we give a proposal to realize lensless Fourier-transform imaging, and discuss its applicability in x-ray diffraction.

Abstract:The theory that light can transmit information in a unique way has been proved by the experiment and theory of correlated imaging. In this paper, the principles of correlated imaging were discussed in semi-classical interpretations. In the view of pseudo-thermal light field, photoelectric detection and correlated computation, the imaging process was analyzed. Field of view, spatial resolution and contrast of the system were given. On this basis, the traditional linear correlation algorithm was improved to make the ghost image a mean square convergence unbiased estimation of the object transmission function. The corresponding computational ghost imaging experiment measurement indicates that under the same number, especially less than the Nyquist frequency, the PSNR is significantly improved and background noise is effectively suppressed compared with the traditional algorithm.

Abstract:We investigate the quantum phase transition of an atomic ensemble trapped in a single-mode optical cavity via the geometric phase and quantum Fisher information of an extra probe atom which is injected into the optical cavity and interacts with the cavity field. We also find that the geometric quantum correlation between two probe atoms exhibits a double sudden transition phenomenon and show this double sudden transition phenomenon is closely associated with the quantum phase transition of the atomic ensemble. Furthermore, we propose a theoretical scheme to prolong the frozen time during which the geometric quantum correlation remains constant by applying time-dependent electromagnetic field.
The Influence of Intensity Correlation Order on Lensless Ghost Imaging

Abstract:As a new imaging mechanism, ghost imaging has become a hot area of research in optical imaging field. In this paper, the effect of intensity correlation order on lensless ghost imaging system is investigated. We demonstrate that the image quality of Nth-order ghost imaging and Nth-order ghost imaging with background subtraction can be affected by the different intensity correlation order of test light and reference both theoretically and experimentally. The result indicates that the image quality will not be certainly increased with the increasing of the intensity correlation order, and here will be very useful for choosing an appropriate intensity correlation order in practice.

Abstract:We extend entangled coincidence (ghost) imaging to fluorescent samples. Given the entangled photon correlation, one photon of the pair carries information on where the other photon has been absorbed and has produced fluorescence in a sample. Fluorescent molecules serve as ''detectors breaking'' the entanglement.

Abstract:The manifestation of entanglement within geometric phase is elucidated for spatially-structured bi-photons. Entanglement parameters are shown to influence holonomy in two distinct ways: through statistical superpositions of separable states; and via quantum correlation. These are entwined within geometric phase, motivating the construction of a projective, gauge-invariant measure that allows the manifestation of quantum correlation to be pinpointed and explained. An optical circuit consisting of a pair of misoriented mode converters gives a practical demonstration. This is facilitated by a novel pump engineering method which produces photon pairs with tunable entanglement.

Abstract:We present here "The XMM-Newton Bright Serendipitous Survey", a survey program conducted by the XMM-Newton Survey Science Center. In particular we discuss the main goals of this project, we present the sample(s) and the current optical breakdown and we discuss some broad band spectral properties as derived from an hardness ratio analysis of the single sources. Finally we report the 4.5--7.5 keV Log(N$>$S)-LogS for type 1 and type 2 AGN.

Abstract:The traditional formalism of nonrelativistic quantum theory allows the state of a quantum system to extend across space, but only restricts it to a single instant in time, leading to distinction between theoretical treatments of spatial and temporal quantum correlations. Here we unify the geometrical description of two-point quantum correlations in space-time. Our study presents the geometry of correlations between two sequential Pauli measurements on a single qubit undergoing an arbitrary quantum channel evolution together with two-qubit spatial correlations under a common framework. We establish a symmetric structure between quantum correlations in space and time. This symmetry is broken in the presence of nonunital channels, which further reveals a set of temporal correlations that are indistinguishable from correlations found in bipartite entangled states.

Abstract:We discuss a correlated two-photon imaging apparatus that is capable of producing images that are free of the effects of odd-order aberration introduced by the optical system. We show that both quantum-entangled and classically correlated light sources are capable of producing the desired spatial-aberration cancelation.

Abstract:Experimental demonstrations of entangled quantum images produced through parametric downconversion have so far been confined to studying two photon correlations. Here we show that multiphoton correlations between quantum images are accessible experimentally and exhibit many new features including being sensitive to the phase of the bi-photon wavefunction. As a concrete example, we consider a modification of existing quantum imaging experiments in which the CCD cameras are moved out of focus, provide detailed analytical predictions for the resulting 4 photon intereferences, and support these by numerical simulations. The proposed experiment can also be interpreted as entanglement swapping: Bob's photons are initially unentangled, but the joint detection of Alice's photons projects Bob's photons onto an entangled state. The general approach proposed here can be extended to other quantum optics experiments involving high dimensional entanglement.

Abstract:Quantum entanglement-based imaging promises significantly increased resolution by extending the spatial separation of optical collection apertures used in very-long-baseline interferometry for astronomy and geodesy. We report a table-top entanglement-based interferometric imaging technique that utilizes two entangled field modes serving as a phase reference between two apertures. The spatial distribution of a simulated thermal light source is determined by interfering light collected at each aperture with one of the entangled fields and performing joint measurements. This experiment demonstrates the ability of entanglement to implement interferometric imaging.

Abstract:Ghost imaging functions achieved by means of the spatial correlations between two photons is a new modality in imaging systems. With a small number of photons, ghost imaging is usually realized based on the position correlation of photon pairs produced from the spontaneous parametric down-conversion process. Here we demonstrate a way to realize multi-path ghost imaging by introducing an additional time correlation. Different delays of paths will induce the shift of the coincidence peak, which carries the information about objects. By choosing the suitable coincidence window, we obtain images of three objects simultaneously, with a visibility of 87.2%. This method provides insights and techniques into multi-parameter ghost imaging. It can be applied to other correlated imaging systems, for example, quantum spiral imaging.

Abstract:We theoretically study ghost imaging with incoherent and partially coherent light radiation by using classical optical coherence theory. A Gaussian thin lens equation is derived for the ghost image. The equation depends on both paths. The quality and visibility of the ghost image are influenced by the source's transverse size, coherence width, and object characteristics. The differences between ghost imaging formed with incoherent light radiation and with entangled photon pairs are discussed.

Abstract:Non-equilibrium photon correlations of coherently excited single quantum systems can reveal their internal quantum dynamics and provide spectroscopic access. Here we propose and discuss the fundamentals of a coherent photon coincidence spectroscopy based on the application of laser pulses with variable delay and the detection of an time-averaged two-photon coincidence rate. For demonstration, two simple but important cases, i.e., an exciton - biexciton in a quantum dot and two coupled quantum emitters, are investigated based on quantum dynamics simulations demonstrating that this nonlinear spectroscopy reveals information specific to the particular single quantum system.

Abstract:Quantum correlation of two‐photon states is utilized to suppress the environmental noise in imaging down to the single‐photon level. However, the size of the coherence area of the photon pairs limits the applications of quantum imaging based on spatial correlations. Here, a quantum imaging scheme exploiting twisted photon pairs with tunable spatial‐correlation regions to circumvent this limitation is proposed. A bulk‐density coincidence is employed to enhance the imaging signal. Specifically, a re‐scaled image signal is introduced, which is immune to the background intensity distribution profile of the photon pulse. A destructive interference between the anti‐bunched photon pair and bunched photon pair in the imaging process is revealed. This work can pave a way for twisted‐photon‐based quantum holography and quantum microscopy. The quantum theory of Hong–Ou–Mandel (HOM) interference of 3D‐structured photon pairs is developed. A quantum imaging scheme is proposed exploiting HOM interference of twisted photon pairs. The results can be utilized to circumvent the limitation due to the insufficient size of the coherence area of photon pairs in quantum imaging.

Abstract:We consider critical space-time correlations in trapped utracold atoms and propose a method for their detection by the interference with a reference Bose-Einstein condensate. An important information about universal properties can be obtained despite non-uniformity and small sizes of atomic clouds. The advantage of this method is that the correlation properties of the interference pattern are robust with respect to expansion and are not, practically, affected by microscopic structure of underlying lattice including structural disorder. The non-destructive scheme allows measuring the space-time correlators of arbitrary order.
