Abstract:A novel tandem reductive amination/intermolecular nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr) sequence has been established for the synthesis of amine containing pyrimidine in formation of one carbon-oxygen and one carbon-nitrogen bonds in a one-pot fashion. Treatment of aldehyde with arylamine, 2-methanesulfonyl-4,6-dimethoxypyrimidine and sodium borohydride provides good overall yield. The p-toluenesulfonic acid (PTSA) can be used as activator and is generally needed in the reaction. Dioxane is the preferred reaction solvent, but reactions can also be carried out in tetrahydrofuran (THF), MeCN, toluene and dichloromethane. The procedure is carried out effectively in the presence of K2CO3. The reaction proceeds smoothly with aromatic aldehydes and arylamines possessing electron-donating or -withdrawing groups. This method can be applied to the synthesis of the oilseed rape herbicide and is superior to the classical one in several aspects: cutting out several purification steps, minimizing solvent use and chemical waste, and saving time. Its advantages such as operational convenience, high-efficient synthesis, and starting material availability make it a desirable method for preparing amines with molecular diversity and biological activity.

Abstract:A sulfonylation of benzylic C-H bonds of aryl(o-tolyl)methanones with arylsulfonyl hydrazides or arylsulfonyl chlorides has been developed. Arylsulfonyl hydrazides and arylsulfonyl chlorides were employed as sulfonylating reagents respectively to complete this transformation. During the reaction, enols were generated insitu from aryl(o-tolyl)methanones under UV irradiation, and subsequently reacted with sulfonyl radicals to provide a range of aryl(2-(arylsulfonylmethyl)aryl)methanones.

Abstract:Herein, we reported an efficient and straightforward method to realize desaturated β-C(sp3)-H sulfonylation and phosphonylation of cyclic amines driven by electrochemistry using catalytic amounts of CP2Fe as the redox mediator. This protocol which had good functional group compatibility, provided the desired enaminyl sulfone and enaminyl phosphine oxide products with high chemo- and regio-selectivity under mild conditions. Several mechanistic studies have suggested that cyclic amines underwent multiple single-electron oxidation and deprotonation processes, followed by a capture step involving either a sulfonyl radical or a phosphonyl radical, ultimately leading to the desired products.

Abstract:A palladium-catalyzed tandem dehydrogenative [4 + 2] annulation of terminal olefins with N-sulfonyl amides via C(sp(2))-H activation, allylic C(sp(3))-H activation, and homoallylic C(sp(3))-H elimination processes has been developed. Promoted by the DMSO ligand, various benzamides, heterocyclic arylamides, alkenyl carboxamides, and commercial olefins are found to be efficient substrates to construct important heterocyclic compounds bearing a vinyl substituent with high E stereoselectivity. Using air as the terminal oxidant also provides a great advantage regarding environmental friendliness.

Abstract:Aryl sulfinates are precursors to a diverse number of sulfonyl-derived arenes, which are common motifs in pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. Here, we report a site-selective two-step C–H sulfination sequence via aryl sulfonium salts to access aryl sulfonamides. Combined with site-selective aromatic thianthrenation, an operationally simple one-pot palladium-catalyzed protocol introduces the sulfonyl group using sodium hydroxymethylsulfinate (Rongalite) as a source of SO22–. The hydroxymethyl sulfone intermediate generated from the catalytic process can be employed as a synthetic handle to deliver a variety of sulfonyl-containing compounds.

Abstract:Presented here is a sulfoximine-directed Ru(II)-catalyzed asymmetric intramolecular double C(sp2)-H hydroarylation of olefins. This process provides a diastereoselective and enantiospecific synthetic route to highly substituted tetrahydrobenzodifurans. Notably, the reaction accommodates labile functional groups and is scalable to gram quantities.

Abstract:An unprecedented Ru(II) catalyzed ortho-hydroxylation has been developed for the facile synthesis of a variety of multifunctionalized arenes from easily accessible ethyl benzoates with ester as an efficient directing group. Both the TFA/TFAA cosolvent system and oxidants serve as the critical success factors in this transformation. The reaction demonstrates excellent reactivity, good functional group tolerance, and high yields.

Abstract:A ligand‐free Pd/Cu‐catalyzed aminosulfonylation of aryl iodides has been successfully developed. The protocol provides a straightforward approach to access a broad range of structurally intriguing sulfonamides in one pot, at low catalyst loading from the sulfur dioxide surrogate 1,4‐diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane bis(sulfur oxide) (DABSO) and O‐benzoyl hydroxylamines under mild conditions. Even without additional ligands, the protocol reveals broad substrate scope for both partners and tolerates all kinds of functional groups. Furthermore, the proposed sulfinate intermediate could be critical for this ligand‐free catalytic transformation.

Abstract:Suzuki-Miyaura coupling of haloarenes is the most widely used protocol for the synthesis of biphenyls. Organosulfur compounds are promising electrophiles since they are abundant in nature and versatile in organic synthesis. We report here the desulfinylative Suzuki-Miyaura coupling of aryl sulfoxides with phenylboronic acids using bench-stable nickel/5-(2,4,6-triisopropylphenyl)imidazolylidene[1,5-a]pyridines as the catalyst. The ligands are readily prepared from common commercial chemicals. The method is applicable to both symmetric and unsymmetric aryl sulfoxides, and a range of biphenyls bearing various functional groups were obtained in up to 94% yield.

Abstract:While among the most common functional handles present in organic molecules, amines are a widely underutilized linchpin for C-C bond formation. To facilitate C-N bond cleavage, large activating groups are typically used but result in the generation of stoichiometric amounts of organic waste. Herein, we report an atom-economic activation of benzylic primary amines relying on the Sulfur(VI) Fluoride Exchange (SuFEx) click chemistry and the aza-Ramberg-Bäcklund reaction. This two-step sequence allows the high-yielding generation of 1,2-dialkyldiazenes from primary amines via loss of SO2. Excitation of the diazenes with blue light and an Ir photocatalyst affords radical pairs upon expulsion of N2, which can be coaxed into the formation of C(sp3)-C(sp2) bonds upon diffusion and capture by a Ni catalyst. This arylative strategy relying on a traceless click approach was harnessed in a variety of examples and its mechanism was investigated.

Abstract:Herein, a novel chelation-assisted C–H arylation reaction of benzo[h]quinoline is described. This transformation, using [RuCl2(p-cymene)]2 as the catalyst and cheap and easily accessible arylsulfonyl chlorides as the arylation source, featured simple reaction conditions, a broad substrate scope, and functional group tolerance. Abstract:Polycyclic aromatic compounds are widely used in materials science, so it is highly desirable to develop an efficient and practical approach to them. In this paper, a novel, efficient and practical method for the rhodium(III)-catalyzed desulfination of sodium arenesulfinates and oxidative annulation with alkynes has been developed, and the corresponding polycyclic aromatic compounds with multiple substituents were prepared in moderate to good yields. The reactions proceeded through sequential rhodium(III)-catalyzed desulfination, intermolecular addition of aryl-Rh(III) complexes to dialkyl but-2-ynedioates and diarylalkynes, and intramolecular oxidative annulation via C-H activation. The present method is the first example of the oxidative annulation of arene derivatives with two different alkynes. Therefore, it should afford a useful strategy for the synthesis of polycyclic aromatic compounds.

Abstract:A simple and efficient method to synthesize N-chloro-N-sulfonylsulfinamides by the direct aminoxidation of arenethiols under aqueous and mild conditions is disclosed, geminally installing the oxo and amino groups on the sulfur atom of arenethiols. The products have been primarily developed as sulfinylation reagents to convert Grignard reagents into sulfoxides, and as amination reagents to convert secondary amines into hydrazine derivatives.

Abstract:A mild and highly efficient access to N-sulfonyl imines through the oxidation of corresponding N-tert-butylsulfinyl imines and N-p-tosyl-sulfinyl imines with UHP in the presence of catalytic amount MTO was developed. Under mild reaction conditions, this highly selective reaction, provides a general and efficient access to N-sulfonyl aldimines, ketimines and alpha-ketiminoesters in excellent yield. The unstable sulfonylimine intermediates can be afforded with high purity and ready for subsequent reaction without further purification. The application of this method was demonstrated by facile synthesis of quaternary alpha-amino acids derivatives via allylation of obtained alpha-ketiminoesters. (C) 2020 Elsevier Ltd. Abstract:Sulfonamides, especially primary aryl sulfonamides are very important scaffolds not only because of the wide applications as pharmacophores in drugs, but also the derivatization for other sulfonamides and different sulfur-containing compounds. Among the aryl sulfonamides, most syntheses of electron-rich (hetero)aryl sulfonamides are still severely limited by the classic chlorosulfonation or oxidative chlorination reactions with significant drawbacks. In this work, by the proposed and unique tert-butyl sulfonylcarbamate intermediate generated in situ from easily accessed tert-butyl chlorosulfonylcarbamate and diisopropylethylamine, a catalyst-free, mild and very pratical aminosulfonylation protocol for a wide scope of electron-rich (hetero)arene substrates with good to excellent yields was reported.

Abstract:A ruthenium-catalyzed sulfonamide-directed ortho aryl C-H alkenylation/annulation to afford five-membered sultam by using of molecular oxygen as an oxidant is reported in this article. Compared to the previous transition-metal-catalyzed C-H alkenylation of aryl sulfonamides, no excess metal salt oxidant was required in this method. A wide sulfonamide substrates scope and good regioselectivity and site-selectivity make this Ru-catalyzed method more attractive. Importantly, this method can not only be used to effectively prepare the biologically active five-membered sultam molecules but also be efficiently applied to the late-stage modification of sulfonamide drugs.

Abstract:An iodophor-catalyzed direct disulfenylation of amino naphthalenes with aryl sulfonyl hydrazines in water was developed. A series of aryl sulfides were obtained in moderate to excellent yields. The advantages of this green protocol were the simple reaction conditions (metal-free, water as the solvent, under air), the odorless and easily available sulfur reagent, the broad substrate scope, and gram-scale synthesis. Moreover, the potential application of aryl sulfides was exemplified by further transformations.

It was confirmed that functional groups in the bpy ligand are crucial for the activity of catalysts.
