Abstract:In this study, we introduce a novel and sustainable method for generating TiO 2 nanoparticles (NPs). We utilize biological sources, specifically the leaf extract of Wrightia tinctoria , which is assisted by tender coconut. This extract serves as both a reduction and capping agent. The UVŌĆōvis spectroscopy (UV), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM) with Energy-Dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) were employed to examine the optical, structural, and morphological properties of the fabricated NPs. The XRD pattern demonstrated the development of phases and the presence of nanocrystalline TiO 2 . The FT-IR study indicated an appearance of conjugation, as well as the existence of vibrational bands associated with TiŌĆōO and OŌĆōH bonds. The morphological study revealed that the NPs had a spherical shape, with an average size ranging from 14 to 27┬Ānm. The study examined the photocatalytic performance of TiO 2 NPs in a water-based solution, specifically focusing on the MB and MO dyes, under visible light exposure at various time intervals. The TiO 2 NPs produced by biosynthesis demonstrated robust photocatalytic efficacy, decomposing 90% and 85% of the MB and MO dyes within 60 and 70┬Āmin, respectively. The germicidal effectiveness of the NPs that were generated was examined using the well diffusion technique. Further, fabricated TiO 2 NPs demonstrated excellent germicidal efficacy against the selected gram-positive ( S. aureus, B. subtilis ), gram-negative ( P. aeruginosa, E. coli ) bacteria, and fungi ( C. albicans and A. niger ). Thus, it may be inferred that the selected mixture of NPs significantly improved germicidal and photodecomposition capabilities. The combination of the ingredients might serve as a valuable tool for efficiently eliminating dye pollution from wastewater. Additionally, it can potentially be employed in the pharmaceutical industry to enhance germicidal effect.
