Abstract:Cardiac transplantation in childhood is in its early stages. The goals of preoperative evaluation include determination that cardiac transplantation is necessary, determination that cardiac transplantation is feasible, obtaining information to diminish risks and difficulties in operative and postoperative management, and preoperative evaluation for establishment of a baseline for long‐term followup. The authors present their experience to provide a framework for developing an approach to pre‐trànsplant evaluation at other pediatric cardiac centers and to stimulate dialogue regarding preoperative evaluation from other centers experienced in pediatric cardiac transplantation.
