Abstract:In this paper, we consider the self-dual equation arising from Abelian Chern-Simons-Higgs theory coupled to the Einstein equations over the plane $\mathbb{R}^2$ and a compact surface $S$. We prove the existence of symmetric topological solutions and non-topological solutions on the plane by using the fixed-point theorem and a shooting method, respectively. A necessary and sufficient condition related to the string number $N$, the Euler characteristic $\chi(S)$ of $S$, and the gravitational coupling factor $G$ is given to show the existence of $N$-string solutions over a compact surface.

Abstract:We study three approaches to electric-magnetic duality in the 4-dimensional Maxwell theory coupled to a dyonic point charge and in the 5-dimensional Maxwell-Chern-Simons (MCS) theory coupled to an electric point charge and a magnetic string charge. The three approaches have been developed by Dirac, Bunster and Henneaux, and Pasti, Sorokin and Tonin (PST). In Dirac's formulation, the electric magnetic duality is realized only on the level of the equations of motion. The other two formulations introduce a dual (magnetic) gauge potential to induce manifest twisted self-duality in the action. In particular, we study the relations connecting the three approaches. The main results of this paper are the Bunster-Henneaux and PST formulations of the MCS theory with sources. We compare our result to the PST formulation of 11-dimensional supergravity coupled to the M2- and M5-brane by Bandos, Berkovits, and Sorokin.

Abstract:We investigate the $\mathcal{N} = 2$ supersymmetric generalization of the dual equivalence between the Maxwell-Chern-Simons model and two massive self-dual models. One of the self-dual models is described by a real scalar superfield, while the other is described by a chiral spinor superfield. The equivalence is analyzed in the presence of dynamical matter chiral superfields. Initially, we establish the duality by demonstrating the existence of master actions that interpolate between the models. We then show that the field equations are identical when the proper identifications are made. Finally, we confirm the dual equivalence by defining a master generating functional, which, after changing the variables, provides the generating functionals of the Maxwell-Chern-Simons model and the two massive self-dual models coupled to matter.

A Chern-Simons approach to self-dual gravity in (2+1)-dimensions and quantisation of Poisson structure

Abstract:The (2+1)-dimensional analog self-dual gravity which is obtained via spacetime dimension reduction of the (3+1)-dimensional Holst action without reducing the internal gauge group is studied. A Chern-Simons formulation for this theory is constructed based on the gauge group $SL(2,\CC)_\RR\rcross \Rsix$ and maps the 3d complex self-dual dynamical variable and connection to 6d real variables which combines into a 12d Cartan connection. The Chern-Simons approach leads to a real analogue for the self-dual action based on a larger symmetry group. The quantization process follows the combinatorial quantization method outlined for Chern-Simons theory. In the combinatorial quantization of the phase space the Poisson structure governing the moduli space of flat connections which emerges is obtained using the classical $r$-matrix for the quantum double $D(SL(2,\CC)_\RR)$ viewed as the double of a double $ D(SL(2,\RR)\dcross AN(2))$. This quantum double gives the structure for quantum symmetries within the quantum theory for the model.

Abstract:In several elementary particle scenarios, self-dual fields emerge as fundamental degrees of freedom. Some examples are the D = 2 chiral boson, D = 10 Type IIB supergravity, and D = 6 chiral tensor multiplet theory. For those models, a novel variational principle has been proposed in the work of Ashoke Sen. The coupling to supergravity of self-dual models in that new framework is rather peculiar to guarantee the decoupling of unphysical degrees of freedom. We generalize this technique to the self-dual super Maxwell gauge theory in D = 4 Euclidean spacetime both in the component formalism and the superspace. We use the geometric tools of rheonomy and integral forms since they are very powerful geometrical techniques for the extension to supergravity. We show the equivalence between the two formulations by choosing a different integral form defined using a Picture Changing Operator. That leads to a meaningful action functional for the variational equations. In addition, we couple the model to a non-dynamical gravitino to extend the analysis slightly beyond the free case. A full-fledged self-dual supergravity analysis will be presented elsewhere.

Self-Dual Warped AdS$_3$ Black Holes

Abstract:We study a new class of solutions of three-dimensional topological massive gravity. These solutions can be taken as nonextremal black holes, with their extremal counterparts being discrete quotients of spacelike warped ${\mathrm{AdS}}_{3}$ along the $U(1{)}_{L}$ isometry. We study the thermodynamics of these black holes and show that the first law is satisfied. We also show that for consistent boundary conditions, the asymptotic symmetry generators form only one copy of the Virasoro algebra with central charge ${c}_{L}=\frac{4\ensuremath{\nu}\ensuremath{\ell}}{G({\ensuremath{\nu}}^{2}+3)}$, with which the Cardy formula reproduces the black hole entropy. We compute the real-time correlators of scalar perturbations and find a perfect match with the dual conformal field theory (CFT) predictions. Our study provides a novel example of warped AdS/CFT correspondence: the self-dual warped ${\mathrm{AdS}}_{3}$ black hole is dual to a CFT with nonvanishing left central charge. Moreover, our investigation suggests that the quantum topological massive gravity asymptotic to the same spacelike warped ${\mathrm{AdS}}_{3}$ in different consistent ways may be dual to different two-dimensional CFTs.

Abstract:We study self-gravitating solutions of 3-dimensional massive gravity coupled to Yang-Mills-Chern-Simons gauge theory. Among these, there is a family of asymptotically Warped-Anti de Sitter black holes that come to generalize previous solutions found in the literature and studied in the context of WAdS$_3$/CFT$_2$. We also present self-gravitating solutions to the 3-dimensional Einstein-Yang-Mills theory, as well as other self-gravitating solutions in the presence of higher-curvature terms.

Abstract:Non-minimally coupled Y(R)-Maxwell gravity which have some interesting solutions may be used to understand dark matter, dark energy, the origin of cosmic magnetic field and the evaluation of the universe. We give some new solutions to the model such as spherically symmetric electric, magnetic and dyon solutions. We point out an existence of an electromagnetic duality transformation for the model.

Abstract:We consider the Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory in noncommutative three dimensional space-time. We show that the Seiberg-Witten map is ambiguous due to the dimensional coupling constant. To get the dual theory we start from a master action obtained by promoting the global shift invariance to a local one. We also obtain the mapping between the observables of the two equivalent theories. We show that the equivalence between the Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory and the self-dual model in commutative space-time does not survive in the non-commutative setting.

Abstract:We obtain both topological as well as nontopological self-dual charged vortex solutions of finite energy per unit length in a generalized abelian Higgs model in $3+1$ dimensions. In this model the Bogomol'nyi bound on the energy per unit length is obtained as a linear combination of the magnetic flux and the electric charge per unit length.

Abstract:By decomposing the Bogomol'nyi self-dual equation in the Abelian Chern-Simons Higgs model, we find a self-dual topological term that was ignored all the time in the Bogomol'nyi self-duality equation due to the improper decomposition of the complex Higgs held. We also present a new self-dual equation that includes the topological term. It is shown that the self-dual vortex just arises from the symmetric phase of the Higgs field phi = 0. Using our phi-mapping theory, the inner topological structure of the vortex and double vortex is given.

Abstract:We consider the dimensional reduction to two dimensions of certain gravitational theories in $D \geq 4$ dimensions at the two-derivative level. It is known that the resulting field equations describe an integrable system in two dimensions which can also be obtained by a dimensional reduction of the self-dual Yang-Mills equations in four dimensions. We use this relation to construct a single copy prescription for classes of gravitational solutions in Weyl-Lewis-Papapetrou coordinates. In contrast with previous proposals, we find that the gauge group of the Yang-Mills single copy carries non-trivial information about the gravitational solution. We illustrate our single copy prescription with various examples that include the extremal Reissner-Nordstrom solution, the Kaluza-Klein rotating attractor solution, the Einstein-Rosen wave solution and the self-dual Kleinian Taub-NUT solution.

On topological solutions to a generalized Chern-Simons equation on lattice graphs

Abstract:In this paper, we study a generalized self-dual Chern-Simons equation on the lattice graph $\mathbb{Z}^n$ for $n \geq 2$ as given by \[ \Delta u = \lambda e^u (e^u - 1)^{2p+1} + 4\pi \sum_{j=1}^M n_j \delta_{p_j}, \] where $\Delta$ denotes the Laplacian operator, $\lambda$ is a positive constant, $p$ is a non-negative integer, $n_1, \ldots, n_M$ are positive integers, and $p_1, \ldots, p_M$ are distinct points with $\delta_{p_j}$ representing the Dirac delta function at $p_j$. We establish the existence of a topological solution that is maximal among all possible solutions. Our findings extend those of of Hua et al. [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2310.13905" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2310.13905">arXiv:2310.13905</a>], Chao and Hou [J. Math. Anal. Appl. $\bf{519}$(1), 126787(2023)], and Hou and Qiao [J. Math. Phys. $\bf{65}$(8), 081503(2024)].

Abstract:Inspired by the low wave-length limit of topological M-theory, which re-constructs the theory of 3 + 1D gravity in the self-dual variables' formulation, and by the realization that in Loop Quantum Gravity (LQG) the holonomy of a flat connection can be nontrivial if and only if a non-trivial (space-like) line defect is localized inside the loop, we argue that non-trivial gravitational holonomies can be put in correspondence with space-like M-branes. This suggests the existence of a new duality, which we call H duality, interconnecting topological M-theory with LQG. We spell some arguments to show that fundamental S-strings are serious candidates to be considered in order to instantiate this correspondence to classes of LQG states. In particular, we consider the case of the holonomy flowers in LQG, and show that for this type of states the action of the Hamiltonian constraint, from the M-theory side, corresponds to a linear combination of appearance and disappearance of a SNS1-strings. Consequently, these processes can be reinterpreted, respectively, as enucleations or decays into open or closed strings.

Abstract:By making use of the U(1) gauge potential decomposition theory and the phi-mapping topological current theory, we investigate the Schrodinger-Chern-Simons model in the thin-film superconductor system and obtain all exact Bogomolny self-dual equation with a topological term. It is revealed that there exist self-dual vortices in the system. We study the inner topological structure of the self-dual vortices and show that their topological charges are topologically quantized and labeled by Hopf indices and Brouwer degrees. Furthermore, the vortices are found generating or annihilating at the limit points and encountering, splitting or merging at the bifurcation points of the vector field phi.

Abstract:In this work we propose a parity-invariant Maxwell-Chern-Simons $U(1) \times U(1)$ model coupled with two charged scalar fields in $2+1$ dimensions, and show that it admits finite-energy topological vortices. We describe the main features of the model and find explicit numerical solutions for the equations of motion, considering different sets of parameters and analyzing some interesting particular regimes. We remark that the structure of the theory follows naturally from the requirement of parity invariance, a symmetry that is rarely envisaged in the context of Chern-Simons theories. Another distinctive aspect is that the vortices found here are characterized by two integer numbers.

Abstract:Based on the U(1) gauge potential decomposition theory and $\phi$-mapping theory, the topological inner structure of the self-duality (Bogomol'nyi-type) equations are studied. The special form of the gauge potential decomposition is obtained directly from the first of the self-duality equations. Using this decomposition, the topological inner structure of the Chern-Simons-Higgs (CSH) vortex is discussed. Furthermore, we obtain a rigorous self-dual equation with topological term for the first time, in which the topological term has been ignored by other physicists.
