Abstract:Reparametrization of conies can make the parameter as uniform as possible and improve the smoothness at the junction points.The common ways are to use linear rational polynomials or quadratic rational polynomials.In the paper,a cubic rational polynomial is used to reparametrize the conic section,which triples the degree of quadratic rational curve.Experimental results obtained by the parametrization of the circular arcs show that the continuity at the junction point of two circular arcs can reach C3 and the deviation between the parametrization presented in the paper and the arc length parametrization has been reduced about two orders of magnitude,compared with the quadratic rational polynomial parametrization.
Perfect Cuboid and Congruent Number Equation Solutions

Abstract:A perfect cuboid (PC) is a rectangular parallelepiped with rational sides $a,b,c$ whose face diagonals $d_{ab}$, $d_{bc}$, $d_{ac}$ and space (body) diagonal $d_s$ are rationals. The existence or otherwise of PC is a problem known since at least the time of Leonhard Euler. This research establishes equivalent conditions of PC by nontrivial rational solutions $(X,Y)$} and $(Z,W)$} of congruent number equation $ y^2=x^3-N^2x$, where product $XZ$ is a square. By using such pair of solutions five parametrizations of nearly-perfect cuboid (NPC) (only one face diagonal is irrational) and five equivalent conditions for PC were found. Each parametrization gives all possible NPC. For example, by using one of them -- invariant parametrization for sides and diagonals of NPC are obtained: $a=2XZN$, $b=|YW|$, $c=|X-Z|\sqrt{XZ}\,N$,$d_{bc}=|XZ-N^2|\sqrt{XZ}$, $d_{ac}=|X+Z|\sqrt{XZ}\,N$, $d_s=(XZ+N^2)\sqrt{XZ}$; and condition of the existence of PC is the rationality of $d_{ab} = \sqrt{Y^2W^2+4N^2X^2Z^2}$. Because each parametrization is complete, inverse problem is discussed. For given NPC is found corresponding congruent number equation (i.e. congruent number) and its solutions.

Abstract:Expressing complex curves with simple parametric curve segments is widely used in computer graphics, CAD and so on. This paper applies rational quadratic B-spline curves to give a global C 1 continuous approximation to a large class of plane parametric curves including rational parametric curves. Its application in approximate implicitization is also explored. The approximated parametric curve is first divided into intrinsic triangle convex segments which can be efficiently approximated with rational quadratic Bézier curves. With this approximation, we keep the convexity and the cusp (sharp) points of the approximated curve with simple computations. High accuracy approximation is achieved with a small number of quadratic segments. Experimental results are given to demonstrate the operation and efficiency of the algorithm.
Approximate Implicitization of Planar Parametric Curves using Quadratic Splines1)

Abstract:A quadratic Bezier spline with G1-continuity is given to approximate a planar parametric curve. In its construction, the parametric curve is first divided into several segments. A rational quadratic Bezier curve is then applied to approximate each segment and recursive subdivision for the segment may be used if the approximation error is out of the given range. With this method, we not only keep the shape but also the direction of the parametric curve with simple computation using quadratic curves. High accuracy of the approximation is also achieved with relatively small number of conics. Parametric and implicit representations are two main forms for planar curves in CAGD. Each of the two representations has its own advantages. With the parametric representation, x = x(t)=d(t);y = y(t)=d(t), where x(t);y(t);d(t) are often polynomials (i.e. the rational form), it is easy to get every point in the curve and plot it. While for the implicit form f(x;y) = 0, it's easy to determine whether a point is on the curve. The availability of both often results in simpler computation. For example, with the two forms available, we can get the intersection of two planar curves by solving a one-variable equation. For any rational parametric curves, we can always convert it into implicit form. The process is called implicitization. While the converse, called parametrization, is not always true. The implicitization techniques include some classic algebraic geometry theories, such as the resultant based method, the Groebner basis method, the characteristic set method, and others such as moving lines and surfaces. Abstract:We present a novel approach to the age-old question of whether perfect cuboids exist. Our approach consists of two new computer search algorithms, arising from the analysis of "perfect plinths" reported by one of us recently, that are much more efficient than any prior algorithm of which we are aware. Using this approach, we also (i) identify some new two-parameter families of edge cuboids, and (ii) show that large proportions of aspect ratios of faces or internal rectangles cannot be present in a perfect cuboid, a property that was previously reported only for faces with the aspect ratio 4:3.

Abstract:AbstractSmoothing of polyhedron with arbitrary topology is an important issue in CAGD and CAD/CAM, but so far it is deemed to be difficult to smooth the complex corners of a polyhedron. In this paper, the concept of distance surfaces of a surface and a solid is introduced, and the incisive properties of such surfaces are addressed which provide a theoretical foundation for modifying a general corner. The method is based on making constricted volume and the maximum distance the volume can be constricted is given too. It is shown that by the proposed method in this paper any polyhedron can be G1 smoothed with quadraic and, sometimes toroidal surfaces. The new approach is suitable for engineering design and NC machining. The associated algorithm based on the classification theorem of corners is simple, fast and robust.

Abstract:A primary challenge for isogeometric analysis (IGA)-suitable parameterization is to efficiently decompose a complex computational domain into a small number of high-quality IGA-suitable patches without internal singularities. Aiming at domains with arbitrary topology, we propose integrating frame field and polysquare structure, resulting in a structure associated with a frame field that is locally integrable everywhere, i.e. a closed differential form or closed-form. Such a structure is more general than a common polysquare but has no internal singularity as well, which makes it suitable for IGA because it usually has fewer undesired boundary corners and low distortion. Since IGA prefers a small number of patches in the parameterization structure, we further propose a patch simplification method with distortion control. A key challenge in simplification is to prevent the resulting patches from degenerating. Previous methods rely on a mesh of the domain to characterize the non-degenerate condition. In sharp contrast, our approach simply uses the boundary of the domain, which obviously improves efficiency because the number of variables is much lower. The patch degeneration issue in such a boundary-only strategy is addressed by solving a constrained optimization problem with a set of automatically constructed inequality constraints. We prove that such constraints are sufficient to make the common polysquare structure homeomorphic to the input shape. We also demonstrate that it prevents the patches from degenerating for the structure of closed-form polysquares, and it can be extendedly applied to 3D closed-form polycubes. Numerical experiments using bi-quadratic B-spline surfaces with C1-constraints are also provided to justify the accuracy of applying the resulting planar parameterization for IGA application.

Abstract:A quadrilateral is said to be rational if its four sides, the two diagonals and the area are all expressible by rational numbers. The problem of constructing rational quadrilaterals dates back to the seventh century when Brahmagupta gave an elegant solution of the problem. In 1848 Kummer gave a method of generating all rational quadrilaterals. In this paper we present an alternative method of generating all rational quadrilaterals. For rational cyclic quadrilaterals, we obtain a complete parametrization and for noncyclic rational quadrilaterals, we give several parametrizations in terms of quadratic and quartic polynomials. The parametrizations obtained in this paper are simpler than the known parametrizations of rational quadrilaterals. We also describe how further parametrizations of rational quadrilaterals may be obtained.

Abstract:A rational face cuboid is a cuboid that all of edges, two of three face diagonals and space diagonal have rational lengths. \[ E_{1,s}: y^2=x(x-(2s)^2)(x+(s^2-1)^2) \] for a rational number $s \neq 0, \pm 1$, and define $\tilde{A}$ consisting of all pairs of a rational number $s$ and a non-torsion rational point $(\alpha, \beta ) \in E_{1,s}(\mathbb{Q})$. We construct a surjective map from $\tilde{A}$ to the set $\mathscr{F}$ of equivalence classes of rational face cuboids, and prove that this map is a $32:1$-map. In this way, we show that the set $\mathscr{F}$ has infinite elements. Also, we prove that there are infinitely many $s \in \mathbb{Q} \setminus \{ 0,\pm 1 \}$ with $\mathrm{rank} E_{1,s} (\mathbb{Q})>0$. In this proof, we construct pairs of $s$ and $(\alpha, \beta) \in E_{1,s} (\mathbb{Q})$ which are not parametric solutions.

Abstract:The perfect cuboid problem is an old famous unsolved problem in mathematics concerning the existence or non-existence of a rectangular parallelepiped whose edges, face diagonals, and space diagonal are of integer lengths. Recently Walter Wyss has published a paper [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1506.02215" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1506.02215">arXiv:1506.02215</a>] claiming a solution of this problem. Quatroids and Rational Plane Cubics

Abstract:It is a classical result that there are $12$ (irreducible) rational cubic curves through $8$ generic points in $\mathbb{P}_{\mathbb{C}}^2$, but little is known about the non-generic cases. The space of $8$-point configurations is partitioned into strata depending on combinatorial objects we call quatroids, a higher-order version of representable matroids. We compute all $779777$ quatroids on eight distinct points in the plane, which produces a full description of the stratification. For each stratum, we generate several invariants, including the number of rational cubics through a generic configuration. As a byproduct of our investigation, we obtain a collection of results regarding the base loci of pencils of cubics and positive certificates for non-rationality.

Abstract:In this paper we propose an algorithm that computes a low cardinality PI-type (Positive weights and Interior nodes) algebraic cubature rule of degree n , with at most nodes, over curvilinear polygons defined by piecewise rational functions. Typical examples are domains whose boundary is defined piecewise by NURBS curves or by composite Bezier curves. The key tools are a relevant but overlooked theorem of 1976 by Wilhelmsen on Tchakaloff sets , a specific in-domain algorithm for such curvilinear polygons and the sparse nonnegative solution of underdetermined moment matching systems by the Lawson–Hanson Nonnegative least squares solver. Many numerical tests are performed to show the flexibility of this approach and the implemented MATLAB toolbox is freely available to the users, in particular for possible applications within FEM/VEM with NURBS-shaped curvilinear elements.

Abstract:Nobody has discovered any perfect cuboid and there is no formula to deliver all possible Euler bricks. During investigations of famous open problems related to the perfect cuboid and Euler brick; I have found some new important conjectures on Pythagorean triples and biquadratic Diophantine equation [4] which are reduced & quivalence form for perfect cuboid and Euler brick problems. The details of the conjectures have been provided in Sections 2-3. If any perfect cuboid exists it will be only among the solutions of six conjectures and all the Euler bricks are only among the solutions of next three conjectures [4]. For example, if any odd $n\in \mathbb{N}$ satisfy $n=e^2-f^2=g^2-h^2=k^2-l^2$ and $e^2f^2=g^2h^2+k^2l^2$; then we can discover a perfect cuboid of type 1 as $\{e^2-f^2,2gh,2kl,g^2+h^2,k^2+l^2,2ef,e^2+f^2\}$ having $(e^2-f^2,2gh,2kl)$ having $(e^2-f^2,2gh,2kl)$ as its edges; $(g^2+h^2,k^2+l^2,2ef)$ as its face diagonals and $e^2+f^2$ as its body diagonal where $e,f,g,h,k,l~(>1)\in \mathbb{N}$.

Gregory Solid Construction for Polyhedral Volume Parameterization by Sparse Optimization

Abstract:In isogeometric analysis, it is frequently required to handle the geometric models enclosed by four-sided or non-four-sided boundary patches, such as trimmed surfaces. In this paper, we develop a Gregory solid based method to parameterize those models. First, we extend the Gregory patch representation to the trivariate Gregory solid representation. Second, the trivariate Gregory solid representation is employed to interpolate the boundary patches of a geometric model, thus generating the polyhedral volume parametrization. To improve the regularity of the polyhedral volume parametrization, we formulate the construction of the trivariate Gregory solid as a sparse optimization problem, where the optimization objective function is a linear combination of some terms, including a sparse term aiming to reduce the negative Jacobian area of the Gregory solid. Then, the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) is used to solve the sparse optimization problem. Lots of experimental examples illustrated in this paper demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the developed method.

Abstract:Geometric constraint solving is a rapidly developing field, with applications in areas such as kinematics, molecular modeling, surveying, and geometric theorem proving. This paper has incorporated conic arcs into a geometric constraint solver and describes how to construct conic blending arcs from constraints using a rational parametric representation - rational quadratic Bezier which combines the separate cases of blending edges. There are some possible constraints: traverse a fixed point, or tangency to or distance from a line. Here a uniform rational Bezier representation has been developed first, then the paper presents two methods to solve tangency to or distance from a line.
Rational points on even dimensional Fermat cubics

Abstract:We show that even dimensional Fermat cubic hypersurfaces are rational over any field of characteristic different from three by producing explicit rational parametrizations given by polynomials of low degree. As a byproduct of our rationality constructions we get estimates on the number of their rational points over a number field, and a class of quadro-cubic Cremona correspondences of even dimensional projective spaces.

Abstract:A perfect cuboid is a rectangular parallelepiped whose edges, whose face diagonals, and whose space diagonal are of integer lengths. The second cuboid conjecture specifies a subclass of perfect cuboids described by one Diophantine equation of tenth degree and claims their non-existence within this subclass. This Diophantine equation is called the cuboid characteristic equation. It has two parameters. The linear region is a domain on the coordinate plane of these two parameters given by certain linear inequalities. In the present paper asymptotic expansions and estimates for roots of the characteristic equation are obtained in the case where both parameters tend to infinity staying within the linear region. Their applications to the cuboid problem are discussed.

Abstract:We propose a novel method to efficiently compute bijective parameterizations with low distortion on disk topology meshes. Our method relies on a second-order solver. To design an efficient solver, we develop two key techniques. First, we propose a coarse shell to substantially reduce the number of collision constraints that are used to guarantee overlap-free boundaries. During the optimization process, the shell ensures the Hessian matrix with a fixed nonzero structure and a low density, thereby significantly accelerating the optimization. The second is a triangle inequality-based barrier function that effectively ensures non-intersecting boundaries. Our barrier function is C-infinity inside the locally supported region and its convex second-order approximation is able to be analytically obtained. Compared to state-of-the-art methods for optimizing bijective parameterizations, our method exhibits better scalability and is about six times faster. The performance of our bijective parameterization algorithm is comparable to state-of-the-art methods of locally flip-free parameterizations. A large number of experimental results have shown the capability and feasibility of our method.

Abstract:Parametric and implicit forms are two common representations of geometric objects. It is important to be able to pass back and forth between the two representations, two processes called parameterization and implicitization, respectively. In this paper, we study the parametrization and implicitization of quadrics (quadratic parametric surfaces with two base points) and cubic surfaces (cubic parametric surfaces with six base points) with the help of mu-bases - a newly developed tool which connects the parametric form and the implicit form of a surface. For both cases, we show that the minimal mu-bases are all linear in the parametric variables, and based on this observation, very efficient algorithms are devised to compute the minimal mu-bases either from the parametric equation or the implicit equation. The conversion between the parametric equation and the implicit equation can be easily accomplished from the minimal mu-bases.

Abstract:A perfect cuboid is formed when an Euler brick whose edges and face diagonals are all integers also has an integer internal diagonal. It is known that if a perfect cuboid exists the internal diagonal is odd. No perfect cuboid has been found. This simple proof shows that the internal diaogonal of an Euler brick cannot be an odd integer.
