Abstract:We study a continuous-variable (CV) teleportation protocol based on a shared entangled state produced by the quantum-nondemolition (QND) interaction of two vacuum states. The scheme utilizes the QND interaction or an unbalanced beam splitter in the Bell measurement. It is shown that in the non-unity gain regime the signal transfer coefficient can be enhanced while the conditional variance product remains preserved by applying appropriate local squeezing operation on sender's part of the shared entangled state. In the unity gain regime it is demonstrated that the fidelity of teleportation can be increased with the help of the local squeezing operations on parts of the shared entangled state that convert effectively our scheme to the standard CV teleportation scheme. Further, it is proved analytically that such a choice of the local symplectic operations minimizes the noise by which the mean number of photons in the input state is increased during the teleportation. Finally, our analysis reveals that the local symplectic operation on sender's side can be integrated into the Bell measurement if the interaction constant of the interaction in the Bell measurement can be adjusted properly.

Abstract:We study the continuous-variable (CV) quantum teleportation protocol in the case that one of the two modes of the shared entangled resource is sent to the receiver through a Gaussian Quantum Brownian Motion noisy channel. We show that if the channel is engineered in a non-Markovian regime, the information backflow from the environment induces an extra dependance of the phase of the two-mode squeezing of the shared Gaussian entangled resource on the transit time along the channel of the shared mode sent to the receiver. Optimizing over the non-Markovianity dependent phase of the squeezing yields a significant enhancement of the teleportation fidelity. For short enough channel transit times, essentially unit fidelity is achieved at realistic, finite values of the squeezing amplitude for a sufficiently large degree of the channel non-Markovianity.

Abstract:Quantum networks rely on quantum teleportation, a process where an unknown quantum state is transmitted between sender and receiver via entangled states and classical communication. In our study, we utilize a continuous variable two-mode squeezed vacuum state as the primary resource for quantum teleportation, shared by Alice and Bob, while exposed to a squeezed thermal environment. Secure quantum teleportation necessitates a teleportation fidelity exceeding 2/3 and the establishment of two-way steering of the resource state. We investigate the temporal evolution of steering and teleportation fidelity to determine critical parameter values for secure quantum teleportation of a coherent Gaussian state. Our findings reveal constraints imposed by temperature, dissipation rate, and squeezing parameters of the squeezed thermal reservoir on the duration of secure quantum teleportation. Intriguingly, we demonstrate that increasing the squeezing parameter of the initial state effectively extends the temporal window for a successful secure quantum teleportation.

Abstract:We report experimental results on the action of selected local environments on the fidelity of the quantum teleportation protocol, taking into account non-ideal, realistic entangled resources. Different working conditions are theoretically identified, where a noisy protocol can be made almost insensitive to further addition of noise. We put to test these conditions on a photonic implementation of the quantum teleportation algorithm, where two polarization entangled qubits act as the entangled resource and a path qubit on Alice encodes the state to be teleported. Bob's path qubit is used to implement a local environment, while the environment on Alice's qubit is simulated as a weighed average of different pure states. We obtain a good agreement with the theoretical predictions, we experimentally recreate the conditions to obtain a noise-induced enhancement of the protocol fidelity, and we identify parameter regions of increased insensibility to interactions with specific noisy environments.

Abstract:Permitting the transmission of unknown quantum states over long distances by using entanglement, quantum teleportation serves as an important building block for many quantum technologies. However, in the noisy intermediate-scale quantum era, the practical realization of quantum teleportation is inevitably challenged by the noise-induced decoherence. We here propose a noise-mitigation mechanism applicable in both the discrete- and continuous-variable quantum teleportation schemes. Via investigating the non-Markovian decoherence dynamics of the two types of quantum teleportation schemes, we find that, as long as a bound state is formed in the energy spectrum of the total system consisting of the involved subsystems and their respective reservoirs, the quantum superiority of the fidelity is persistently recovered. Supplying an insightful understanding of the noise-mitigation protocols, our result paves the way to the practical realization of noise-tolerant quantum teleportation.

Abstract:Quantum teleportation is a fundamental ingredient for quantum information science and technology. In particular, the ability to perform quantum teleportation between quantum systems of different natures and encoding types is crucial for building complex systems, such as distributed quantum internet. Here we propose a scheme to teleport a continuous variable optical qubit, encoded in an optical qumode by means of a superposed coherent state, onto a discrete variable solid-state qubit, associated with a single nitrogen-vacancy center spin in diamond, via a hybrid entanglement. By using a newly developed method for Bell-state measurement, which relies only on light homodyne detection and spin polarization measurement, near-deterministic and -perfect quantum teleportation can be achieved for large coherent-state amplitude input. Taking noise effects into account, we find that the average teleportation fidelity can still exceed the classical limit, enabling substantial teleportation distances under realistic experimental conditions.

Abstract:Quantum teleportation as a key protocol for quantum communication and quantum computing demonstrates the stark difference between quantum and classical information transmission. An ideal teleportation protocol requires pure maximally entangled state as the teleportation channel, while in real implementations the shared entanglement is severely degraded due to decoherence. In this letter, we propose a scheme to protect the quantum teleportation from decoherence by means of environment assisted measurement with weak measurements and flip operations. We show that the teleportation fidelity of our proposed scheme is significantly improved compared to teleportation with no protection and a teleportation protocol based on quantum measurement reversal. Also, the explicit formula of average teleportation fidelity and success probability of the entanglement protection are derived.

Robust quantum teleportation via a non-Markovian channel

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a non-Markovian quantum channel approach to mitigating the degradation of the average fidelity in continuous-variable quantum teleportation. The non-Markovian quantum channel is modeled by an augmented system, where ancillary systems are introduced to represent the internal modes of non-Markovian environments. With a proper non-Markovianity, enhanced effects of the channels on continuous-variable quantum teleportation are observed. Also, the logarithmic negativity of entangled states can be effectively maintained so that the decay of the average fidelity of quantum teleportation is mitigated. In addition, the analysis on different teleported quantum states shows that coherent states exhibit stronger robustness than those of squeezed states and cat states in quantum teleportation with a non-Markovian channel.

Entanglement enhancement through multi-rail noise reduction for continuous-variable measurement-based quantum information processing

Abstract:We study theoretically the teleportation of controlled-phase (CZ) gate through measurement-based quantum information processing for continuous-variable systems. We examine the degree of entanglement in the output modes of the teleported CZ-gate for two classes of resource states: the canonical cluster states that are constructed via direct implementations of two-mode squeezing operations, and the linear-optical version of cluster states which are built from linear-optical networks of beam splitters and phase shifters. In order to reduce the excess noise arising from finite-squeezed resource states, teleportation through resource states with different multi-rail designs will be considered and the enhancement of entanglement in the teleported CZ-gates will be analyzed. For multi-rail cluster with an arbitrary number of rails, we obtain analytical expressions for the entanglement in the output modes and analyze in detail the results for both classes of resource states. At the same time, we also show that for uniformly squeezed clusters the multi-rail noise reduction can be optimized when the excess noise is allocated uniformly to the rails. To facilitate the analysis, we develop a trick with manipulations of quadrature operators that can reveal rather efficiently the measurement sequence and corrective operations needed for the measurement-based gate teleportation, which will also be explained in detail.

Abstract:We investigate continuous variable (CV) quantum teleportation using relevant classes of non-Gaussian states of the radiation field as entangled resources. First, we introduce the class two-mode squeezed symmetric superposition of Fock states, including finite truncations of twin-beam Gaussian states as special realizations. These states depend on a set of free independent parameters that can be adjusted for the optimization of teleportation protocols, with an enhancement of the success probability of teleportation both for coherent and Fock input states. We show that the optimization procedure reduces the entangled resources to truncated twin beam states, which thus represents an optimal class of non-Gaussian resources for quantum teleportation. We then introduce a further class of two-mode non-Gaussian entangled resources, in the form of squeezed cat-like states. We analyze the performance and the properties of such states when optimized for (CV) teleportation, and compare them to the optimized squeezed Bell-like states introduced in a previous work \cite{CVTelepNoi}. We discuss how optimal resources for teleportation are characterized by a suitable balance of entanglement content and squeezed vacuum affinity. We finally investigate the effects of thermal noise on the efficiency of quantum teleportation. To this aim, a convenient framework is to describe noisy entangled resources as linear superpositions of non-Gaussian state and thermal states. Although the presence of the thermal component strongly reduces the teleportation fidelity, noisy non-Gaussian states remain preferred resources when compared to noisy twin-beam Gaussian states.

Analyzing performance of $f$-deformed displaced Fock state in continuous-variable quantum teleportation

Abstract:Performing non-Gaussian operations, namely photon addition, photon subtraction, photon-addition-then-subtraction, photon-subtraction-then-addition can successfully enhance the fidelity of the continuous-variable quantum teleportation. However, a shortcoming of these non-Gaussian resources is that they are probabilistic in nature. In this article, we investigate the success probability of the non-Gaussian resources for optimal performance of the ideal teleportation protocol. To this end, we first derive the analytical expression for the two-mode entangled channel having $f$-deformed displaced Fock state or photon-added displaced Fock state or photon-subtracted displaced Fock state at one port and vacuum at another port of a symmetric beam-splitter. The generalized displaced Fock states are obtained by replacing the conventional bosonic functions by the nonlinear $f$-deformed operators such as $A=af(a^†a)$ and $B=af(a^†a)^{-1}$. The Wigner characteristic functions describing these three aforementioned non-Gaussian states are determined and utilized to attain the teleportation fidelity for input coherent and squeezed vacuum states. It is found that the nonlinear substitution leads to an enhancement in teleportation fidelity beyond the threshold limit. Moreover, the entangled photon-subtracted displaced Fock state demonstrates maximum efficiency as a quantum channel for teleporting single-mode coherent and squeezed states. We provide the squeezing regime values corresponding to the optimal performance of the non-Gaussian states considered, which will be of significant interest to the experimental fraternity. Further, we show that the entangled photon-added displaced Fock states have larger amount of entanglement but the entangled photon-subtracted displaced Fock states have stronger Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen correlation.

Abstract:We give a description of balanced homodyne detection (BHD) using a conventional laser as a local oscillator (LO), where the laser field outside the cavity is a mixed state whose phase is completely unknown. Our description is based on the standard interpretation of the quantum theory for measurement, and accords with the experimental result in the squeezed state generation scheme. We apply our description of BHD to continuous-variable quantum teleportation (CVQT) with a conventional laser to analyze the CVQT experiment [A. Furusawa et al., Science 282, 706 (1998)], whose validity has been questioned on the ground of intrinsic phase indeterminacy of the laser field [T. Rudolph and B.C. Sanders, Phys. Rev. Lett. 87, 077903 (2001)]. We show that CVQT with a laser is valid only if the unknown phase of the laser field is shared among sender's LOs, the EPR state, and receiver's LO. The CVQT experiment is considered valid with the aid of an optical path other than the EPR channel and a classical channel, directly linking between a sender and a receiver. We also propose a method to probabilistically generate a strongly phase-correlated quantum state via continuous measurement of independent lasers, which is applicable to realizing CVQT without the additional optical path.

Non-Gaussian state teleportation with a nonlinear feedforward

Abstract:Measurement-induced quantum computation with continuous-variable cluster states utilizes teleportation propagating the states through the cluster accompanied by non-Gaussian measurements and feedforward control. We analyze such propagation of a quantum non-Gaussian state with nonlinear squeezing through a small cluster state and show that when a nonlinear feedforward is involved in the teleportation protocol, higher nonlinear squeezing can be transferred. In a probabilistic regime, the improvement can be manifested even with current experimental resources. Better processing of non-Gaussian states can bring us closer to the necessary interplay between cluster states and non-Gaussianity required by quantum computing.

Abstract:Entangled coherent states can be used to determine the entanglement fidelity for a device that is designed to teleport coherent states. This entanglement fidelity is universal in that the calculation is independent of the use of entangled coherent states and applies generally to the teleportation of entanglement using coherent states. The average fidelity is shown to be a poor indicator of the capability of teleporting entanglement; i.e., very high average fidelity for the quantum teleportation apparatus can still result in low entanglement fidelity for one-mode of the two-mode entangled coherent states.

Abstract:The efficiency of continuous-variable quantum teleportation is typically quantified by fidelity especially in experiment. From the original definition of fidelity in two pure states, we give an expansion of fidelity which is related to the variances of output and input states. With a coherent or a squeezed input state, it is convenient to quantify the quantum teleportation experiment, since the variances of quadrature components of the input and output states are measurable. Furthermore, the fidelity was discussed when the quantum channel lies in the phase-and amplitude-noisy environment, which is unavoidable in experiment, and this showed that the effect of phase noise on teleportation is more sensitive than that of the amplitude-noisy environment. The classical fidelity limit of squeezed state quantum teleportation is also obtained when the entanglement resources do not exist.

Abstract:We investigate ideal and non-ideal continuous-variable quantum teleportation protocols realized by using an entangled displaced Fock state resource. The characteristic function formulation is applied to measure the relative performance of displaced Fock state for teleporting squeezed and coherent states. It is found that for such single-mode input fields, the average fidelity remains at the classical threshold, suggesting that the displaced Fock states are not advantageous for teleportation. We also discuss the major decoherence effects, caused by the inaccuracy in Bell measurements and photon losses for the propagation of optical fields via fibre channels. The changes in the teleportation fidelity are described by adjusting the gain factor ($g$), reflectivity ($R$), mode damping ($\tau$), and the number of thermal photons ($n_\mathrm{th}$). The possibility of successful teleportation can be optimized by fixing these realistic parameters.

Abstract:Quantum communication networks can be built on quantum teleportation, which is the transmission of an unknown quantum state from a sending station to a remote receiving station supported by entangled states and classical communication. We use a continuous variable two-mode squeezed vacuum state as a resource state for the quantum teleportation. This state is shared by Alice and Bob, and their system comes into contact with a squeezed thermal environment. The conditions for a secure quantum teleportation require a teleportation fidelity larger than 2/3 and two-way steering of the resource state. We investigate the time evolution of the steering and the fidelity of teleportation in order to determine the values of the parameters required for a successful secure quantum teleportation of a coherent Gaussian state. We show that the temperature, dissipation rate and squeezing parameter of the squeezed thermal reservoir limit the feasible duration for secure quantum teleportation, while by increasing the squeezing parameter of the initial state one can effectively expand the temporal range for a successful secure quantum teleportation.

Abstract:A perfect teleportation protocol requires pure maximally shared entangled states. While in reality the shared entanglement is drastically degraded due to the inevitable interaction with the noisy environment. Here, we propose a teleportation protocol to teleport an unknown qubit through amplitude damping channels with a fidelity up to one with a single copy of the entangled state. Our proposed teleportation protocol, while illustrated using the Bell and W entangled states as examples, can be utilized with any type of entangled states. In our protocol, we utilize environment-assisted measurement (EAM) during the entanglement distribution, and further modify the original teleportation protocol to apply weak measurement in the last step of teleportation. We find a balance between teleportation fidelity and success probability by varying the strength of the weak measurement. Furthermore, we investigate the protection of third-party assisted teleportation protocols, where all the qubits of the entangled state pass through the amplitude damping channel. In particular, for the third-party assisted teleportation with the W state, the decoherence of the shared entanglement can be totally suppressed by using EAM, hence no weak measurement is required to achieve an average teleportation fidelity of unity. The numerical simulation results reveal that our proposed teleportation protocol outperforms both the weak measurement based probabilistic teleportation protocol and the original teleportation protocols without protection.

Abstract:We assess a scheme for measurement-free quantum teleportation from the perspective of the resources underpinning its performance. In particular, we focus on recently made claims about the crucial role played by the degree of non-Markovianity of the dynamics of the information carrier whose state we aim to teleport. We prove that any link between efficiency of teleportation and back-flow of information depends fundamentally on the way the various operations entailed by the measurement-free teleportation protocol are implemented, while - in general - no claim of causal link can be made. Our result reinforces the need for the explicit assessment of the underlying physical platform when assessing the performance and resources for a given quantum protocol and the need for a rigorous quantum resource theory of non-Markovianity.
