Abstract:We investigate the azimuthal angle dependent local hydrodynamic helicity polarization of Λ hyperons, defined as the projection of the spin polarization vector along the directions of particle momenta, at BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider beam energy scan energies by utilizing the relativistic ( 3+1 )D CLVisc hydrodynamics framework with SMASH initial conditions. As opposed to local spin polarization at high energy collisions, our hydrodynamic simulations demonstrate that the azimuthal angle dependent helicity polarization induced by the kinetic vorticity dominates over other contributions at intermediate and low collision energies. Our findings provide an opportunity to probe the fine structure of local kinetic vorticity as a function of azimuthal angle at intermediate and low collision energies by mapping our predictions to the future measurements in experiments. https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevC.109.L011901 Published by the American Physical Society under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper aims to explore the detection of vortical structures produced under the conditions of the Beam Energy Scan (BES) at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) by studying the hydrodynamic helicity polarization of Lambda hyperons in heavy - ion collisions that depends on the chiral angle. Specifically, the authors used the relativistic (3 + 1) - dimensional CLVisc hydrodynamic framework and combined with SMASH initial conditions to simulate the chiral polarization of Lambda hyperons at different collision energies. ### Main research questions 1. **Dominant factors of chiral polarization**: Investigate whether the chiral polarization caused by kinetic vorticity is dominant in low - and medium - energy collisions, and the influence of other contributions (such as thermal vorticity, shear viscosity tensor, fluid acceleration, etc.). 2. **Feasibility of experimental measurement**: Explore how to probe the fine structure of kinetic vorticity, especially its dependence on the azimuthal angle, through chiral polarization measurements in future experiments. 3. **Verification of theoretical models**: Verify the influence of different initial conditions (such as SMASH and AMPT models) and different baryon diffusion coefficients on the results to confirm whether the dominant factors of chiral polarization are consistent. ### Key findings - **Dominant role of kinetic vorticity**: In low - and medium - energy collisions, the chiral polarization caused by kinetic vorticity is significantly greater than other contributions, and these other contributions largely cancel each other out. - **Potential for experimental measurement**: By measuring chiral polarization in future experiments, the fine structure of kinetic vorticity can be effectively probed, especially in low - energy collisions. - **Robustness of the model**: Regardless of which initial condition or baryon diffusion coefficient is used, the dominant role of kinetic vorticity in chiral polarization remains unchanged. ### Conclusion The authors propose a method for detecting the fine structure of kinetic vorticity in low - energy heavy - ion collisions by connecting hydrodynamic simulations and experimental measurements of chiral polarization. This method not only provides a new perspective for understanding local spin polarization but also provides a basis for studying non - equilibrium effects or other more exotic sources.
