Abstract:Composite consisted of Mn − Ni − S nanoparticles and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was generated on the surface of Ni foam (NF) (hereafter referred to as Mn − Ni − S/rGO/NF) by one-step electrodeposition technique. In the electrodeposition process, the generation of Mn − Ni − S nanoparticles and the reduction of graphene oxide (GO) into rGO were accomplished at the same time. Due to the prior adsorption of Mn 2+ and Ni 2+ ions on the surface of GO, the Mn − Ni − S nanoparticles were planted on the rGO sheet evenly, which avoided the aggregation of nanoparticles. Moreover, the participation of rGO greatly decreased the size of Mn − Ni − S nanoparticles into the range of 5–15 nm. As a result, higher specific surface area was harvested, which provided more contact sites for electrolyte. Moreover, higher electrical conductivity was achieved due to the excellent conductivity of rGO. Consequently, Mn − Ni − S/rGO/NF electrode presented a higher specific capacity of 1640 C g −1 (3280 F g −1 ) at 1 A g −1 , which was five times of the capacity from Mn − Ni − S/NF electrode prepared without rGO. Density functional theory (DFT) calculation revealed that excellent electrochemical performance could be ascribed to the internal electric field formation at the heterogeneous boundary of Mn − Ni − S and rGO, which facilitated electron transfer, thereby improving the electrochemical performance significantly. Notably, this work provides a new strategy to improve specific capacity of supercapacitors electrode materials.
