Abstract:A novel macromolecule flocculant, dithiocarboxyl aminomethy-polyacrylamide (DTAPAM) was synthesized using polyacrylamide, carbon disulfide, formaldehyde, dimethylamine, and sodium hydroxide as raw materials. Single water samples containing Cu 2+ , containing turbidity and combined water samples containing Cu 2+ and turbidity were selected as the test samples to study the removal performance of Cu 2+ and turbidity by DTAPAM. Orthogonal experiments determined the optimal hydraulic conditions for Cu 2+ removal: a rapid stirring time of 3.0 min at a speed of 140 r·min −1 , followed by a slow stirring time of 20 min at 30 r·min −1 . Under these optimal hydraulic conditions, DTAPAM was found to effectively remove both Cu 2+ and turbidity. In the system targeting solely Cu 2+ removal, the Cu 2+ removal efficiency was observed to increase with both the initial pH values and dosages of DTAPAM, reaching over 96.72 % at pH levels of 3.0–6.0, but only 87.34 % with a pH of 2.0. Within the turbidity removal system, the turbidity removal efficiency escalated with increases in initial turbidity and pH values, achieving over 92 % at the pH values of 2.0–6.0. In mixed systems, the presence of Cu 2+ inhibited turbidity removal, whereas turbidity exhibited a dual effect on Cu 2+ removal, showing an inhibitory effect at lower turbidity levels and a promotional effect at higher levels.
