Abstract:Sir, We read with interest the systematic review and meta-regression analysis by Hirsch et al. (2024) on planned oocyte cryopreservation (POC). We congratulate Hirsch et al. for their timely and comprehensive summary and discussion of the 10 included studies, presenting several aspects of POC, including the mean cryopreservation age, return rate, oocyte survival rate, and live birth rate per patient. In their conclusion, they emphasized the limited success rate and the decline in successful live births as the age of cryopreservation rises. One important figure that went unnoticed and is crucial for better informed discussions and counselling of patients undergoing POC is the live birth rate per thawed oocyte. Table 1 of Hirsch et al. presents this figure as recovered from the aforementioned 10 studies, of which only 6 provided (directly or indirectly) both the number of thawed oocytes and their corresponding live births. Four hundred and thirty live births were reported following the thawing of 15 628 oocytes, corresponding to 2.75% live births per thawed oocytes.
