Abstract: We present stable solution of static spherically symmetric Einstein-Yang-Mills equations with the SU(2) gauge group. This solution is asymptotically flat and regular at r = 0 and with nontrivial Yang-Mills(YM) connection. With quantized values of the Arnowitt-Deser-Misner (ADM) mass, the solutions asymptotically approach the Schwarzschild solution and have zero global YM charges. Numerical evidences suggest that this solution is both linearly and nonlinearly stable and has a ring of generic curvature singularities along the horizon. An effective counterexample to the no-hair conjecture is provided by this stable solution. Moreover, the stable black hole solution suggests that the coupling of gauge field to gravity in early Universe will generate a new type of black holes. Their stability means that these might be a possible new source of primordial black holes left over from the early Universe and serves as a possible new candidate for dark matter.

Abstract:The properties of hairy black holes in Einstein-Yang-Mills (EYM) theory are reviewed, focusing on spherically symmetric solutions. In particular, in asymptotically anti-de Sitter space (adS) stable black hole hair is known to exist for su(2) EYM. We review recent work in which it is shown that stable hair also exists in su(N) EYM for arbitrary N, so that there is no upper limit on how much stable hair a black hole in adS can possess.

Abstract:We study the property of matter in equilibrium with a static, spherically symmetric black hole in D-dimensional space time. It requires that this kind of matter has an equation of state omega equivalent to pr/rho = -n/(n + 2k), k, n is an element of N (where n > 1 corresponds to a mixture of vacuum matter and "hair" matter), which seems to be independent of D. However, when we associate this result with specific models, we find that these hairy black holes can live only in some special dimensional space time: (i) D = 2 + 2k/n while the black hole is surrounded by cosmic strings, which requires D is even or D is an element of N, depending on the value of n, this is consistent with some important results in superstring theory, it might reveal the relation between cosmic string and superstring in another aspect; (ii) the black hole can be surrounded by linear dilaton field only in 4-dimensional space time. In both cases, D = 4 is special. We also present some examples of such hairy black holes in higher dimensions, including a toy model with negative energy density.

Abstract:In this work, we join the controversial discussion on singular and non-singular black holes using the Gaussian distribution. Our result which uses correct boundary conditions shifts the debate in favour of regular black holes at the centre. The present findings add new insights into the ongoing discussions surrounding singularities in black hole solutions of the Einstein equations.

Abstract:Static spherically symmetric asymptotically flat charged black hole solutions are constructed within the magnetic SU(3) sector of the 4-dimensional heterotic string effective action. They possess non-abelian hair in addition to the Coulomb magnetic field and are qualitatively similar to the Einstein-Yang-Mills colored SU(3) black holes except for the extremal case. In the extremality limit the horizon shrinks and the resulting geometry around the origin coincides with that of an extremal abelian dilatonic black hole with magnetic charge. Non-abelian hair exibits then typical sphaleron structure.

Abstract:We here review asymptotically flat rotating black holes in the presence of non-Abelian gauge fields. Like their static counterparts these black holes are no longer uniquely determined by their global charges. In the case of pure SU(2) Yang-Mills fields, the rotation generically induces an electric charge, while the black holes do not carry a magnetic charge. When a Higgs field is coupled, rotating black holes with monopole hair arise in the case of a Higgs triplet, while in the presence of a complex Higgs doublet the black holes carry sphaleron hair. The inclusion of a dilaton allows for Smarr type mass formulae.

Remarks on stationary vacuum black holes

Abstract:We finish the proof of the no-hair theorem for stationary, analytic, connected, suitably regular, four dimensional vacuum black holes. We show how to define the surface gravity and the angular velocity of horizons without assuming analyticity. We point out that, under the usual regularity conditions, vacuum near-horizon geometries are Kerrian without assuming analyticity.

Abstract:We construct and discuss new solutions of primary hair charged black holes in asymptotically anti–de Sitter space that have well-defined Coulomb-like potential in three dimensions. The gauge field source to the Einstein equation is a power-Maxwell nonlinear electrodynamics with traceless energy-momentum tensor. The coupled Einstein-power-Maxwell-scalar gravity system, which carries the coupling f(φ) between the gauge and scalar fields, is analyzed, and hairy-charged black hole solutions are found analytically. We consider three different profiles of the coupling functions: (i) f(φ)=1 , corresponding to no direct coupling between the gauge and scalar fields, (ii) f(φ)=eφ , and (iii) f(φ)=eφ2/2 , corresponding to their nonminimal coupling. For all these cases, the scalar field, gauge fields, and curvature scalars are regular and well behaved everywhere outside the horizon. We further study the thermodynamics of the obtained hairy black hole in the canonical and grand-canonical ensembles and find significant changes in its thermodynamic structure due to the scalar field. In particular, for all considered coupling functions, the hairy parameter has a critical value above which the hairy black hole undergoes the Hawking/Page phase transition, whereas below which no such phase transition appears. https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevD.109.124039 © 2024 American Physical Society

Abstract:In this paper, we study the dynamics of scalar hair around a Schwarzchild black hole. The scalar hair is sourced by the Gauss-Bonnet invariant with a linear coupling. We work perturbatively in the coupling constant and ignore the backreaction of the scalar hair and the Gauss-Bonnet invariant. We evolve the scalar field in the background of a Schwarzchild black hole and study the dynamical formation of scalar hair with different self-interactions. We integrate the energy and compute the energy flux of the scalar hair in terms of the canonical energy-momentum tensor and give the corresponding dependence on the self-interactions. Our results allow us to estimate the radiation and the condensation of scalar field with different self-interactions; these would improve our understanding for the dynamical scalarization of black holes and the possible configuration of the scalar hair in scalar Gauss-Bonnet gravity. https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevD.106.024027 © 2022 American Physical Society

Black Holes in Massive Dynamical Chern-Simons gravity: scalar hair and quasibound states at decoupling

Abstract:Black holes have a unique sensitivity to the presence of ultralight matter fields or modifications of the underlying theory of gravity. In the present paper we combine both features by studying an ultralight, dynamical scalar field that is nonminimally coupled to the gravitational Chern-Simons term. In particular, we numerically simulate the evolution of such a scalar field around a rotating black hole in the decoupling approximation and find a new kind of massive scalar hair anchored around the black hole. In the proximity of the black hole, the scalar exhibits the typical dipolar structure of hairy solutions in (massless) dynamical Chern-Simons gravity. At larger distances, the field transitions to an oscillating scalar cloud that is induced by the mass term. Finally, we complement the time-domain results with a spectral analysis of the scalar field characteristic frequencies.

Abstract:According to the standard view classically black holes carry no hair, whereas quantum hair is at best exponentially weak. We show that suppression of hair is an artifact of the semi-classical treatment and that in the quantum picture hair appears as an inverse mass-square effect. Such hair is predicted in the microscopic quantum description in which a black hole represents a self-sustained leaky Bose-condensate of N soft gravitons. In this picture the Hawking radiation is the quantum depletion of the condensate. Within this picture we show that quantum black hole physics is fully compatible with continuous global symmetries and that global hair appears with the strength B/N, where B is the global charge swallowed by the black hole. For large charge this hair has dramatic effect on black hole dynamics. Our findings can have interesting astrophysical consequences, such as existence of black holes with large detectable baryonic and leptonic numbers.

Abstract:We study hair mass distributions in noncommutative Einstein-Born-Infeld hairy black holes with non-zero cosmological constants. We find that the larger noncommutative parameter makes the hair easier to condense in the near horizon area. We also show that Hod's lower bound can be evaded in the noncommutative gravity. However, for large black holes with a non-negative cosmological constant, Hod's lower hair mass bound almost holds in the sense that nearly half of the hair lays above the photonsphere.

A new look at AdS black holes with conformal scalar hair

Abstract:We revisit static, spherically symmetric solutions to AdS-Einstein gravity with a conformally coupled scalar field (and no self-interaction potential) in four dimensions. We first observe that a convenient choice of coordinates leads to a significant simplification of the field equations, which enables one to identify various roots of the indicial equations and thus distinct branches of solutions. Next, we construct an explicit 2-parameter hairy black hole solution in terms of an infinite power series around the event horizon. The black hole is non-extremal with a regular scalar field on and outside the event horizon, and it reduces to the Schwarzschild-AdS metric in the limit of vanishing hair. Its properties are illustrated for various values of the parameters and compared with previous numerical results by other authors. In addition, the analysis reveals the presence of a photon sphere and how the scalar field affects its size and the angular radius of the corresponding shadow. The thermodynamics of the solution is also briefly discussed.

Abstract:We study the black hole spacetime structure of a model consisting of the standard Maxwell theory and a $p$-power-Yang-Mills term. This non-linear contribution introduces a non-Abelian charge into the global solution, resulting in a modified structure of the standard Reissner-Nordström black hole. Specifically, we focus on the model with $p=1/2$, which gives rise to a new type of modified Reissner-Nordström black hole. For this class of black holes, we compute the event horizon, the innermost stable circular orbit, and the conditions to preserve the weak cosmic censorship conjecture. The latter condition sets a well-established relation between the electric and the Yang-Mills charges. As a first astrophysical implication, the accretion properties of spherical steady flows are investigated in detail. Extensive numerical examples of how the Yang-Mills charge affects the accretion process of an isothermal fluid in comparison to the standard Reissner-Nordström and Schwarzschild black holes are displayed. Finally, analytical solutions in the fully relativistic regime, along with numerical computations, of the mass accretion rate for a polytropic fluid in terms of the electric and Yang-Mills charges are obtained. As a main result, the mass accretion rate efficiency is considerably improved, with respect to the standard Reissner-Nordström and Schwarzschild solutions, for negative values of the Yang-Mills charge.

Abstract:Using a combination of analytical and numerical methods, we obtain a two-dimensional spacetime describing a black hole with tachyon hair. The physical ADM mass of the black hole is finite. The presence of tachyon hair increases the Hawking temperature.

Abstract:We study black hole (BH) solutions in extended Einstein-Maxwell-scalar theories, which are classified in a subclass of the $U(1)$ gauge-invariant scalar-vector-tensor theories. The scalar field is coupled to the vector field, which has electric and magnetic charges. For the static and spherically symmetric spacetime, we investigate modifications to the Reissner-Nordström solutions focusing on the three types of scalar-vector interactions, including derivative couplings. We solve the field equations analytically in two asymptotic regions which are the vicinity of the BH horizon and the spatial infinity, and clarify the condition for the existence of scalar hair. To understand the behaviors of solutions in intermediate scales, the field equations are integrated numerically for concrete models with different types of couplings. We find new hairy BH solutions with scalar hair in the presence of magnetic charge and kinetic coupling. The magnetic charge plays an important role in distinguishing hairy BH solutions originated from three types of different interactions at a large coupling limit.

Abstract:We construct static axially symmetric black holes in SU(2) Einstein–Yang–Mills–Higgs theory. Located in-between a monopole–antimonopole pair, these black holes possess magnetic dipole hair. The difference of their mass and their horizon mass equals the mass of the regular monopole–antimonopole solution, as expected from the isolated horizon framework.
