Abstract:As a family, we knew very little about Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) before it burst into our lives like an unwelcome house guest in 2023. Previously, if someone had told me they had Crohn's or colitis, I would have nodded along with empathy, but naively, would not have thought of it as anything more than 'a bit of an upset stomach'. We had no idea what a brutal and life changing disease it can be, especially for a child. It began with Brayden complaining of nausea every morning after waking. The profound feeling of guilt I have from when I dismissed his claims as just not wanting to go to school, still eats away at me to this day. The nausea went on for several months, but it wasn't until I started to notice Brayden losing quite a significant amount of weight that I really became concerned. Looking back, I now know all the signs and symptoms for IBD were there.
