Abstract:A simple Heckmann's vacuum wormhole solution of Jordan-Brans-Dicke gravitation is presented and analysed. It is shown that in contrast with class I Brans solution where the throat radius becomes real when $\omega < -4/3$ here it becomes positive when $\omega < -1$.

Abstract:It is shown that a new set of exact solutions in vacuum Brans-Dicke theory is obtained and it admits wormhole geometry. Two-way traversable wormholes in the Brans-Dicke theory is allowed for the coupling parameter ω(-2≤ω≤0) and the appropriately chosen integration constants. It also follows that the scalar field φ plays the role of exotic matter and this violates the weak energy condition.

Abstract:It is known that the formation of a wormhole typically involves a violation of the Weak Energy Condition (WEC), but the reverse is not necessarily true. In the context of Brans-Dicke gravity, the $\textit{generalized}$ Campanelli-Lousto solution, which we shall unveil in this paper, demonstrates a WEC violation that coincides with the appearance of $\textit{unbounded}$ sheets of spacetime within the "interior" section. The emergence of a wormhole in the "exterior" section is thus only an indirect consequence of the WEC violation. Additionally, we use the generalized Campanelli-Lousto solution to construct a Kruskal-Szekeres diagram, which exhibits a "gulf" sandwiched between the four quadrants in the diagram, a novel feature in Brans-Dicke gravity. Overall, our findings shed new light onto a complex interplay between the WEC and wormholes in the Brans-Dicke theory.

Abstract:A new set of exact solutions in vacuum Brans-Dicke theory is obtained, which is a two-way traversable wormhole for the coupling parameter omega (omega < -2). This new set of exact solutions satisfies not only the general constraints on the shape function b(R) and the redshift function Phi(R) given by Morris and Thorne [Am. J. Phys. 56 (1988) 395], but also the constraints on them from a trip through wormhole. It also follows that the scalar field phi plays a role of exotic matter violating the weak energy condition.

Abstract:In recent years there has been a growing interest in the field of wormhole physics in the presence of the Casimir effect. As this effect provides negative energy density, it can be utilized as an ideal candidate for the exotic matter required for creating a traversable wormhole. In the context of modified theories of gravity such as Brans-Dicke (BD) theory \cite{BDTH}, wormhole geometries {have} been vastly investigated{. However}, the scientific literature is silent on the issue of BD wormholes in the presence of Casimir energy. Our aim in the present study is to seek for static spherically symmetric solutions representing wormhole configurations in BD theory with Casimir energy as the supporting matter. The Casimir {setup} we assume comprises two electrically neutral, infinitely large parallel planes placed in a vacuum. We then consider the Casimir vacuum energy density of a scalar field in such a configuration with Dirichlet {and} mixed boundary conditions. In the former case, the corresponding Casimir force is attractive and in the latter this force is repulsive. We present exact zero tidal force wormhole solutions as well as those with non-vanishing redshift function for both types of Casimir energies. The conditions on wormhole solutions along with the weak (WEC) and null (NEC) energy conditions put constraints on the values of BD coupling parameter. These constraints are also subject to the value of BD scalar field at the throat and the throat radius. We therefore find that BD wormholes in the presence of Casimir energy can exist without violating NEC and WEC (for the repulsive Casimir force). Finally, we examine the equilibrium condition for the stability of the obtained solutions using Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff (TOV) equation.

Abstract:Recently, a class of spherically symmetric thin-shell wormholes in Brans-Dicke gravity have been introduced. Such wormholes can be supported by matter satisfying the weak energy condition (WEC). In this paper, we first obtain all the exact solutions satisfying the WEC. Then we show these solutions can be stable for certain parameters. A general requirement for stability is that $\beta^2>1$, which may imply that the speed of sound exceeds the speed of light.

Abstract:We present an exact static spherisymmetric solution for the Brans-Dicke action sourced by a self-gravitating massless Klein-Gordon helicity-0 field. In contrast to the Maxwell electromagnetic field, a Klein-Gordon field possesses an energy-momentum tensor with $\textit{non-vanishing trace}$. Upon a Weyl mapping into the Einstein frame, the transformed Brans-Dicke scalar field takes on the role of a "dilaton" coupled with the Klein-Gordon field. Despite this dilatonic coupling, the field equations of the resulting Einstein-Klein-Gordon-dilaton action are fully soluble when employing the harmonic radial coordinate. The exact solution derived herein can serve as a prototype for future Brans-Dicke gravity studies involving trace-carrying matter fields. Notably, in the limit of infinite $\omega$, the Brans-Dicke scalar field exhibits an anomalous behavior of ${\cal O}\,(1/\sqrt\omega)$ as opposed to ${\cal O}\,(1/\omega)$. As a consequence, the solution converges to a spacetime configuration of General Relativity sourced by the original Klein-Gordon field and a free scalar field, the latter of which is the ${\cal O}\,(1/\sqrt\omega)$ "remnant" of the Brans-Dicke scalar field. Furthermore, we provide a formal mathematical proof substantiating these two conclusions. Although the ${\cal O}\,(1/\sqrt\omega)$ anomaly has been previously discovered for Brans-Dicke vacuum and Brans-Dicke-Maxwell electrovacuum, our findings establish its prevalence in Brans-Dicke gravity $\textit{regardless}$ of the trace of the energy-momentum tensor of the source. Taken together, the ${\cal O}\,(1/\sqrt\omega)$ anomaly challenges the conventional belief in the ${\cal O}\,(1/\omega)$ signature commonly associated with Brans-Dicke gravity. In particular, it may have implications in improving the relativistic corrections to Newtonian gravity beyond the weak-field parametrized post-Newtonian formalism.

Abstract:This paper investigates a particular type of wormhole. The wormhole solutions studied are obtained by sewing together two static, spherically symmetric, charged black-hole metrics at their horizons. The charged wormholes are in a background Kalb-Ramond field, which is the source of the necessary tension in the gravitational field. The metric-tensor elements are studied by numerically solving Einstein's equations with stress-energy-tensor elements given by the combination of static electric and Kalb-Ramond fields. For a certain range of electric charge the tension is positive away from the wormhole throat, but the tension is negative near the throat, making it non-traversable. The wormholes are found to be quasi-stable against decay via gravitational instanton tunnelling.

Abstract:This study delves into the distinctive characteristics of wormhole models in the context of de Rham-Gabadadze-Tolley (dRGT) massive gravity, providing insights into their theoretical behavior and stability. We use a null zero complexity factor to find the wormhole shape function for Model I. Additionally, we solve analytically the modified field equations describing wormhole for a given choice of logarithmic redshift function, exploiting the Karmarkar condition for embedding class one metrics for Model II. To achieve this, we analyze the wormhole geometry in a static spherical spacetime with an anisotropic matter configuration. The study investigates a number of parameters, including density, energy conditions, equation of state parameter, adiabatic sound velocity, and equilibrium condition. The solution shows a traversable wormhole that violates the null energy criterion and equilibrium state for certain ranges of free parameters. We employ adiabatic sound velocity analysis to concentrate on the stability of the wormhole. Furthermore, by using the equation of state parameter ( ω ), we conclude that both models end up in the phantom dark energy region. Finally, our findings highlight distinct photon deflection behaviors in dRTG massive gravity, with Model II showing negative angles indicative of repulsive gravity, while Model I exhibits positive angles, underscoring significant differences in gravitational dynamics.

Noncommutative wormhole in de Rham-Gabadadze-Tolley like massive gravity

Abstract:The wormhole solution in dRGT massive gravity is examined in this paper in the background of non-commutative geometry. In order to derive the wormhole model, along with the zero tidal force, we assume that the matter distribution is given by the Gaussian and Lorentzian distributions. The shape function in both models involves the massive gravity parameters m2c1 and m2c2. But the spacetime loses its asymptotic flatness due to the action of the massive gravity parameter. It is noticed that the asymptotic flatness is affected by the repulsive effect induced in the massive gravitons that push the spacetime geometry very strongly. We observed that each model violates the null energy criteria, indicating the presence of exotic matter which is necessary to sustain the wormholes. The exotic matter is measured using the volume integral quantifier. Moreover, it is discovered that the model is stable under the hydrostatic equilibrium condition by utilizing the TOV equation. Finally, our research encompassed an exploration of the repulsive influence exerted by gravity. Our findings demonstrated that the presence of repulsive gravity results in a negative deflection angle for photons following null geodesics. Remarkably, we consistently observed negative values for the deflection angle across all values of r0 in the two scenarios examined. This consistent negativity unequivocally signifies the manifestation of the repulsive gravity effect.

Exploring a novel Einstein--Rosen BTZ wormhole

Abstract:We introduce a novel Einstein-Rosen BTZ wormhole metric as a solution to the Einstein field equations with a negative cosmological constant and explore in detail its various phenomenological aspects. We show that the wormhole metric is characterized by a horizon at the throat, resembling a black hole horizon. This implies that our wormhole metric describes a one-way traversable wormhole at the throat, with Hawking radiation observed by an observer located at some distance from the wormhole. It is also found the same Hawking temperature using the BTZ-like coordinates and Kruskal-like coordinates. This temperature is invariant not only on the type of coordinates but also the nature of the spin of quantum fields. Importantly, we find that at the wormhole throat, the spacetime is not a pure vacuum solution, but rather contains an exotic string matter source with negative tension, which may stabilize the wormhole geometry. To this end, we found that the size of the wormhole throat is proportional to the number of quantum bits suggesting a possible implications on ER=EPR. Further we studied the particle dynamics and, finally, we tested the ANEC with a test scalar and vector fields. For the double null-component computed in BTZ coordinates, we found an apparent divergence at the wormhole throat, which is then shown to be regularized by means of Kruskal-like coordinates. The ANEC for such a scalar/vector field is violated at the wormhole throat.

Existence of Vacuum Wormholes in Einsteinian Cubic Gravity

Abstract:Wormhole solutions in gravitational theories typically require exotic matter. Here we present a wormhole solution to the field equations of Einsteinian Cubic Gravity -- a phenomenological competitor to general relativity that includes terms cubic in the curvature -- that has no matter, exotic or otherwise. These purely gravitational wormhole geometries are asymptotically AdS but contain a geometric deficit at infinity. The deficit, interpreted as a global monopole, plays an essential role in our construction. We find that our wormhole solution satisfies traversablility criteria. We also find, for different parameters, a range of possible wormhole solutions.

Abstract:There are a number of reasons to study wormholes with generic cosmological constant Λ. Recent observations indicate that the present accelerating expansion of the universe demands Λ > 0. On the other hand, some extended theories of gravitation, such as supergravity and superstring theories, possess vacuum states with Λ < 0. Even within the framework of general relativity, a negative cosmological constant permits black holes with horizons topologically different from the usual spherical ones. These solutions are convertible to wormhole solutions by adding some exotic matter. In this paper, the asymptotically flat wormhole solutions in a generic cosmological constant background are studied. By constructing a specific class of shape functions, a mass function, energy density, and pressure profile that support such a geometry are obtained. It is shown that for having such a geometry, the wormhole throat, r 0 , the cosmological constant, Λ, and the equation of state parameter, ω, should satisfy two specific conditions. The possibility of setting different values for the parameters of the model helps us to find exact solutions for the metric functions, mass functions, and energy–momentum profiles. At last, the volume integral quantifier, which provides useful information about the total amount of energy-condition violating matter, is discussed briefly.

Properties of wormhole model in de Rham-Gabadadze-Tolley like massive gravity with specific matter density

Abstract:In the conventional method of studying wormhole (WH) geometry, traversability requires the presence of exotic matter, which also provides negative gravity effects to keep the wormhole throat open. In dRGT massive gravity theory, we produce two types of WH solutions in our present paper. Selecting a static and spherically symmetric metric for the background geometry, we obtain the field equations for exact WH solutions. We derive the WH geometry completely for the two different choices of redshift functions. All the energy conditions including the NEC are violated by the obtained WH solutions. Various plots are used to illustrate the behavior of the wormhole for a suitable range of $m^2c_1$, where $m$ is the graviton mass. It is observed that the photon deflection angle becomes negative for all values of $m^2c_1$ as a result of the repulsive action of gravity. It is also studied that the repulsive impact of massive gravitons pushes the spacetime geometry so strongly that the asymptotic flatness is affected. The Volume Integral Quantifier (VIQ) has also been computed to determine the amounts of matter that violate the null energy condition. The complexity factor of the proposed model is also discussed.

Abstract:Spacetime wormholes are evidently an essential component of the construction of a time machine. Within the context of general relativity, such objects require, for their formation, exotic matter -- matter that violates at least one of the standard energy conditions. Here, we explore the possibility that higher-curvature gravity theories might permit the construction of a wormhole without any matter at all. In particular, we consider the simplest form of a generalized quasi topological theory in four spacetime dimensions, known as Einsteinian Cubic Gravity. This theory has a number of promising features that make it an interesting phenomenological competitor to general relativity, including having non-hairy generalizations of the Schwarzschild black hole and linearized equations of second order around maximally symmetric backgrounds. By matching series solutions near the horizon and at large distances, we find evidence that strong asymptotically AdS wormhole solutions can be constructed, with strong curvature effects ensuring that the wormhole throat can exist.

Abstract:The static spheroidal solutions of Jordan-Brands-Dicke theory (JBD) are studied. We consider the effect of the anisotropic stresses of scalar field on the shape of JBD self-graviting objects. It is shown that scalar fields can have significant effect on the structure and properties of self-graviting objects. In contrast with general relativity in JBD theory there are nonflat static spheroidal solutions.

Wormholes with a warped extra dimension?

Abstract:We investigate the role of a specifically warped extra dimension in constructing examples of higher dimensional spacetimes representing Lorentzian wormholes. The warping chosen is largely inspired by the well-known non-static Witten bubble of nothing, though our spacetimes are static and geometrically different. Vacuum solutions in $D\geq 5$ dimensions and others (non-asymptotically flat) with `perfectly normal' matter stress energy are interpreted as possible Lorentzian wormholes. Asymptotically flat wormholes in $D\geq 5$ with `exotic matter' and within this class of spacetimes also appear to exist in all dimensions. A wormhole-black hole correspondence via double Wick rotation is revisited and discussed. Finally, geodesic motion as well as the behaviour of geodesic congruences, in the sub-class of five dimensional, warped, vacuum wormhole spacetimes is also briefly analysed, with the aim of obtaining characteristic properties and specific signatures which may help improve our understanding of these geometries.
