What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper aims to explore the impact of sarcopenia on adjacent vertebral recurrent fractures after percutaneous vertebroplasty (PKP). Main objectives of the paper: - To investigate the impact of sarcopenia on adjacent vertebral recurrent fractures in patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCF) after percutaneous vertebroplasty. - To enhance the screening and diagnosis of sarcopenia and to emphasize the importance of post-operative anti-sarcopenia treatment. Through a retrospective analysis of data from OVCF patients over 55 years old admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University from August 2020 to January 2021, the study found that sarcopenia and advanced age are independent risk factors for adjacent vertebral recurrent fractures after PKP, while higher bone density is a protective factor. Therefore, clinicians should pay attention to the screening and diagnosis of sarcopenia and actively conduct anti-sarcopenia treatment post-operatively to reduce the risk of recurrent fractures.
