Abstract:In the photocatalytic reduction of uranium, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) face the challenges of poor visible light capture ability and limited photogenerated electron separation and transfer. The introduction of naphthalenediimide (NDI) connectors with exceptional photoelectric properties into the MOF frameworks is expected to overcome these challenges. Herein, a three-dimensional NDI-based MOF (Mn-NDI-MOF) was designed and synthesized for efficiently photocatalytic uranium removal without sacrificial agents. Notably, the wide light absorption range and high electron affinity of N,N'-bis(4-pyrazolyl)-1,4,5,8-naphthalenetetraformyldiimide (PyNDI) enhanced the light capture ability of Mn-NDI-MOF, improving the separation and transfer efficiency of photogenerated electrons, thus achieving effective ligand-to-metal charge transfer. As verification, without using sacrificial agents, Mn-NDI-MOF demonstrated highly photocatalytic reduction removal capacity for uranium (q m = 1142.20 mg g −1 ), with a removal rate of uranium from uranium mine wastewater still as high as 81 %. This work shows that MOFs can overcome the bottleneck of existing technology through reasonable design and functionalization, and has broad practical application prospects.
