Abstract:In this paper we investigate the series $\sum_{k = 1}^\infty \binom{3k}{k}^{-1}k^{-n}x^k$. Obtaining some integral representations of them, we evaluated the sum of them explicitly for $n = 0, 1, 2$.

Abstract:In this paper, we deduce several new identities on infinite series with denominators of summands containing both binomial coefficients and linear parts. For example, we evaluate the sums $$\sum_{k=1}^\infty\frac{x_0^k}{(2k-1)\binom{3k}k},\ \sum_{k=0}^\infty\frac{x_0^k}{(3k+1)\binom{3k}k} \ \text{and}\ \sum_{k=0}^\infty\frac{x_0^k}{(3k+2)\binom{3k}k}$$ for any $x_0\in(-27/4,27/4)$. For any $1<n\le 85/4$, we obtain the following fast converging series for $\log n$: $$\begin{aligned}&\sum_{k=0}^\infty\frac{(2(n^2+6n+1)^2k+n^4+30n^2+1)(n-1)^{4k}}{(4k+1)(-n)^k(n+1)^{2k}\binom{4k}{2k}}\\&\qquad=8n(n+1)^2-2n(n^2-1)\log n.\end{aligned}$$ We also prove that $$\sum_{k=0}^\infty\frac{153965k^2-96459k+22786}{(-8)^k\binom{4k}k}=\frac{64}5(1634-45\log2).$$ In addition, we pose many new conjectural series identities involving binomial coefficients; for example, we conjecture that $$\sum_{k=1}^\infty\frac{\binom{2k}k^3}{4096^k}\bigg(9(42k+5)\sum_{j=0}^{k-1}\frac1{(2j+1)^4}+\frac{25}{(2k+1)^3}\bigg)=\frac 56\pi^3.$$

Abstract:We perform polylogarithmic reductions for several classes of infinite sums motivated by Z.-W. Sun's related works in 2022--2023. For certain choices of parameters, these series can be expressed by cyclotomic multiple zeta values of levels $4$, $5$, $6$, $7$, $8$, $9$, $10$, and $12$. In particular, we obtain closed forms of the series $$\sum_{k=0}^\infty\frac{x_0^k}{(k+1)\binom{3k}k} \ \ \text{and}\ \ \sum_{k=1}^\infty\frac{x_0^k}{k^2\binom{3k}k}$$ for any $x_0\in(-27/4,27/4)$.

Abstract:We are interested in finding an explicit estimate to the binomial sum $Q_n(x)=\sum_{k=0}^{n} k! {n\choose k}^2 (-x)^{k}$ at $x=1$ for $n=0,1,2,\ldots$. Despite of its own interest the polynomial $Q_n(x)$ is important as the denominator in the Padé identity of the Euler's factorial series $E(x) = \sum_{k=0}^{\infty} k! x^k$ as well as its close connection to a classical Laguerre polynomial $L_n(x) = \frac{1}{n!} e^x \left(\frac{d}{dx}\right)^n (e^{-x}x^n)$. Our main result is the explicit bound $$\left|L_n(1)-\sqrt{\frac{e}{\pi}}\cdot \frac{\cos (2\sqrt{n}-\frac{\pi}{4})}{n^{1/4}} +\frac{17}{48}\sqrt{\frac{e}{\pi}}\frac{\sin(2\sqrt{n}-\frac{\pi}{4})}{n^{3/4}}\right|<\frac{0.51}{n}$$ for all $n=0,1,2,\ldots$, which replaces the Fejér's asymptotic formula from 1909. As a corollary of this, one also gets a new proof for the bound $|Q_{n}(1)| \le n!$, and even more.

Abstract:For non-negative integers $a,b,$ and $n$, let $N(a, b; n)$ be the number of representations of $n$ as a sum of squares with coefficients $1$ or $3$ ($a$ of ones and $b$ of threes). Let $N^*(a,b; n)$ be the number of representations of $n$ as a sum of odd squares with coefficients $1$ or $3$ ($a$ of ones and $b$ of threes). We have that $N^*(a,b;8n+a+3b)$ is the number of representations of $n$ as a sum of triangular numbers with coefficients $1$ or $3$ ($a$ of ones and $b$ of threes). It is known that for $a$ and $b$ satisfying $1\leq a+3b \leq 7$, we have $$ N^*(a,b;8n+a+3b)= \frac{2}{2+{a\choose4}+ab} N(a,b;8n+a+3b) $$ and for $a$ and $b$ satisfying $a+3b=8$, we have $$ N^*(a,b;8n+a+3b) = \frac{2}{2+{a\choose4}+ab} \left( N(a,b;8n+a+3b) - N(a,b; (8n+a+3b)/4) \right). %& t(8,0;{n}) = \frac{1}{36} \left( N(8,0;8n+8) - N(8,0;2n+2) \right). \label{eq31_5} $$ Such identities are not known for $a+3b>8$. In this paper, for general $a$ and $b$ with $a+b$ even, we prove asymptotic equivalence of formulas similar to the above, as $n\rightarrow\infty$. One of our main results extends a theorem of Bateman, Datskovsky, and Knopp where the case $b=0$ and general $a$ was considered. Our approach is different from Bateman-Datskovsky-Knopp's proof where the circle method and singular series were used. We achieve our results by explicitly computing the Eisenstein components of the generating functions of $N^*(a,b;8n+a+3b)$ and $N(a,b;8n+a+3b)$. The method we use is robust and can be adapted in studying the asymptotics of other representation numbers with general coefficients.

Abstract:Using cyclotomic multiple zeta values of level $8$, we confirm and generalize several conjectural identities on infinite series with summands involving $\binom{2k}k8^k/(\binom{3k}k\binom{6k}{3k})$. For example, we prove that \[\sum_{k=0}^\infty\frac{(350k-17)\binom{2k}k8^k} {\binom{3k}k\binom{6k}{3k}}=15\sqrt2\,\pi+27\] and \[\sum_{k=1}^\infty\frac{\left\{(5k-1)\left[16\mathsf H_{2k-1}^{(2)}-3\mathsf H_{k-1}^{(2)}\right]-\frac{12(6k-1)}{(2k-1)^2}\right\}\binom{2k}k8^k} {k(2k-1)\binom{3k}k\binom{6k}{3k}}=\frac{\pi^3}{12\sqrt2},\] where $\mathsf H^{(2)}_m$ denotes the second-order harmonic number $\sum_{0<j\leq m}\frac1{j^2}$.

Abstract:In this paper we initiate the study of products and sums divisible by central binomial coefficients. We show that 2(2n+1)binom(2n,n)| binom(6n,3n)binom(3n,n) for every n=1,2,3,... Also, for any nonnegative integers $k$ and $n$ we have $$\binom {2k}k | \binom{4n+2k+2}{2n+k+1}\binom{2n+k+1}{2k}\binom{2n-k+1}n$$ and $$\binom{2k}k | (2n+1)\binom{2n}nC_{n+k}\binom{n+k+1}{2k},$$ where $C_m$ denotes the Catalan number $\binom{2m}m/(m+1)=\binom{2m}m-\binom{2m}{m+1}$. Applying this result we obtain two sums divisible by central binomial coefficients.

Abstract:Let $p$ be given, $0 < p < 1$. Let $n$ and $k$ be positive integers such that $np \leqq k \leqq n$, and let $B_n(k) = \sum^n_{r=k} \binom{n}{r} p^rq^{n-r}$, where $q = 1 - p$. It is shown that $B_n(k) = \big\lbrack\binom{n}{k} p^kq^{n - k}\big\rbrack qF(n + 1, 1; k + 1; p),$ where $F$ is the hypergeometric function. This representation seems useful for numerical and theoretical investigations of small tail probabilities. The representation yields, in particular, the result that, with $A_n(k) = \big\lbrack\binom{n}{k}p^kq^{n - k + 1}\big\rbrack \lbrack(k + 1)/(k + 1 - (n + 1)p)\rbrack$, we have $1 \leqq A_n(k)/B_n(k) \leqq 1 + x^{-2}$, where $x = (k - np)/(npq)^{\frac{1}{2}}$. Next, let $N_n(k)$ denote the normal approximation to $B_n(k)$, and let $C_n(k) = (x + \sqrt{q/np}) \sqrt{2\pi} \exp \lbrack x^2/2 \rbrack$. It is shown that $(A_nN_nC_n)/B_n \rightarrow 1$ as $n \rightarrow \infty$, provided only that $k$ varies with $n$ so that $x \geqq 0$ for each $n$. It follows hence that $A_n/B_n \rightarrow 1$ if and only if $x \rightarrow \infty$ (i.e. $B_n \rightarrow 0$). It also follows that $N_nN_n \rightarrow 1$ if and only if $A_nC_n \rightarrow 1$. This last condition reduces to $x = o(n^{1/6})$ for certain values of $p$, but is weaker for other values; in particular, there are values of $p$ for which $N_n/B_n$ can tend to one without even the requirement that $k/n$ tend to $p$.

Abstract:In this short, we study sums of the shape $\sum_{n\leqslant x}{f([x/n])}/{[x/n]},$ where $f$ is Euler totient function $\varphi$, Dedekind function $\Psi$, sum-of-divisors function $\sigma$ or the alternating sum-of-divisors function $\beta.$ We improve previous results when $f=\varphi$ and derive new estimates when $f=\Psi, f=\sigma$ and $f=\beta.$

Abstract:The problem of finding the sum of a polynomial's values is considered. In particular, for any $n\geq 3$, the explicit formula for the sum of the $n$th powers of natural numbers $S_n=\sum_{x=1}^{m}x^{n}$ is proved: $$\sum_{x=1}^{m}x^{n}=(-1)^{n}m(m+1)(-\frac{1}{2}+\sum_{i=2}^{n}a_i(m+2)(m+3)...(m+i)),$$ here $a_i=\frac{1}{i+1}\sum_{k=1}^{i}\frac{(-1)^{k}k^{n}}{k!(i-k)!}$, $(i=2,3,...,n-1)$, $a_n=\frac{(-1)^n}{n+1}$. Note that this formula does not contain Bernoulli numbers.

Abstract:There is not much that can be said for all $x$ and for all $n$ about the sum \[ \sum_{k=1}^n \frac{1}{|\sin k\pi x|}. \] However, for this and similar sums, series, and products, we can establish results for almost all $x$ using the tools of continued fractions. We present in detail the appearance of these sums in the singular series for the circle method. One particular interest of the paper is the detailed proof of a striking result of Hardy and Littlewood, whose compact proof, which delicately uses analytic continuation, has not been written freshly anywhere since its original publication. This story includes various parts of late 19th century and early 20th century mathematics.

Abstract:Let $j \ge1$, $k\ge 0$ be real numbers and $\varphi(n)$ be the Euler function. In this paper, we study the asymptotical behaviour of the summation function $$S_{j,k}(x):=\sum_{n\le x}\frac{\varphi\left ( \left [ \frac{x}{n} \right ]^{j} \right ) }{\left [ \frac{x}{n} \right ]^{k} } $$ as $x\to \infty $, where $\left [ \cdot \right ] $ is the integral part function.
