Abstract:Skew braces provide an algebraic framework for studying bijective nondegenerate solutions of the set-theoretic Yang-Baxter equation. We show that left skew bracoids, recently introduced by two of the authors, can be used to obtain right nondegenerate solutions, and give a variety of examples arising from various methods of constructing left skew bracoids. We compare the solutions we obtain with the left nondegenerate solutions obtained via (left cancellative) left semibraces, and establish a correspondence between left semibraces and a class of left skew bracoids.

Abstract:We study 2-reductive non-involutive non-degenerate set-theoretic solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation. We give a combinatorial construction of any such solution of any (even infinite) size. We also prove that solutions associated to a skew left brace are 2-reductive if and only if the skew left brace is nilpotent of class 2. Moreover, all such skew left braces are actually bi-skew left braces. We focus on these structures and we give several equivalent properties characterizing solutions associated to bi-skew left braces.

Abstract:Given a skew left brace $B$, a method is given to construct all the non-degenerate set-theoretic solutions $(X,r)$ of the Yang Baxter equation such that the associated permutation group $\mathcal{G}(X,r)$ is isomorphic, as a skew left brace, to $B$. This method depends entirely on the brace structure of $B$. We then adapt this method to show how to construct solutions with additional properties, like square-free, involutive or irretractable solutions. Using this result, it is even possible to recover racks from their permutation group.

Abstract:Braces were introduced by Rump as a generalization of Jacobson radical rings. It turns out that braces allow us to use ring-theoretic and group-theoretic methods for studying involutive solutions to the Yang-Baxter equation. If braces are replaced by skew braces, then one can use similar methods for studying not necessarily involutive solutions. Here we collect problems related to (skew) braces and set-theoretic solutions to the Yang-Baxter equation.

Abstract:The study of non-degenerate set-theoretic solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation calls for a deep understanding of the algebraic structure of a skew left brace. In this paper, the skew brace theoretical property of solubility is introduced and studied. It leads naturally to the notion of solubility of solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation. It turns out that soluble non-degenerate set-theoretic solutions are characterised by soluble skew left braces. The rich ideal structure of soluble skew left braces is also shown. A worked example showing the relevance of the brace theoretical property of solubility is also presented.

Abstract:Skew bracoids have been shown to have applications in Hopf-Galois theory. We show that a certain family of skew bracoids correspond bijectively with left cancellative semibraces. A consequence of this correspondence is that skew bracoids in this family can be used to obtain and study solutions of the set-theoretic Yang--Baxter equation; we study this process and the resulting solutions. We give numerous examples of skew bracoids satisfying our hypothesis, drawing upon a variety of constructions in the literature.

Abstract:Our primary focus is on the theory of skew braces, specifically exploring their connection with combinatorial solutions to the Yang-Baxter equation. Skew braces have recently emerged as intriguing algebraic structures, and their link to the Yang-Baxter equation adds further depth and significance to their study. Throughout this article, we place particular emphasis on various problems and conjectures that arise within this field. These open questions serve to stimulate further research and investigation, as we strive to enhance our understanding of skew braces and their role in the study of the Yang-Baxter equation.

In the case of two‐sided (skew) braces, one can assign such solutions to every element of the set. Novel bijective maps associated to the inverse solutions are also introduced. Moreover, we show that the recently derived Drinfeld twists of the involutive case are still admissible in the non‐involutive frame, and we identify the twisted ‐matrices and twisted coproducts. We observe, as in the involutive case, that the underlying quantum algebra is not a quasi‐triangular bialgebra, as one would expect, but a quasi‐triangular quasi‐bialgebra. The same applies to the quantum algebra of the twisted ‐matrices, contrary to the involutive case.

Abstract:Braces were introduced by W. Rump in 2006 as an algebraic system related to the quantum Yang-Baxter equation. In 2017, L. Guarnieri and L. Vendramin defined for the same purposes a more general notion of a skew left brace. Recently, L. Guo, H. Lang, Y. Sheng [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2009.03492" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2009.03492">arXiv:2009.03492</a>] gave a definition of what is a Rota-Baxter operator on a group. We connect these two notions as follows. It is shown that every Rota-Baxter group gives rise to a skew left brace. Moreover, every skew left brace can be injectively embedded into a Rota-Baxter group. When the additive group of a skew left brace is complete, then this brace is induced by a Rota-Baxter group. We interpret some notions of the theory of skew left braces in terms of Rota-Baxter operators.

Abstract:In this paper we discuss and characterize several set-theoretic solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation obtained using skew lattices, an algebraic structure that has not yet been related to the Yang-Baxter equation. Such solutions are degenerate in general, and thus different from solutions obtained from braces and other algebraic structures. Our main result concerns a description of a set-theoretic solution of the Yang-Baxter equation, obtained from an arbitrary skew lattice. We also provide a construction of a cancellative and distributive skew lattice on a given family of pairwise disjoint sets.

Abstract:Journal of Algebra and Its Applications, Ahead of Print. Skew-braces have been introduced recently by Guarnieri and Vendramin. The structure group of a non-degenerate solution to the Yang–Baxter equation is a skew-brace, and every skew-brace gives a set-theoretic solution to the Yang–Baxter equation. It is proved that skew-braces arise from near-rings with a distinguished exponential map. For a fixed skew-brace, the corresponding near-rings with exponential form a category. The terminal object is a near-ring of self-maps, while the initial object is a near-ring which gives a complete invariant of the skew-brace. The radicals of split local near-rings with a central residue field [math] are characterized as [math]-braces with a compatible near-ring structure. Under this correspondence, [math]-braces are radicals of local near-rings with radical square zero.

Abstract:Skew left braces arise naturally from the study of non-degenerate set-theoretic solutions of the Yang–Baxter equation. To understand the algebraic structure of skew left braces, a study of the decomposition into minimal substructures is relevant. We introduce chief series and prove a strengthened form of the Jordan–Hölder theorem for finite skew left braces. A characterization of right nilpotency and an application to multipermutation solutions are also given.

When one of the group structures is abelian, one gets back the notion of brace as introduced by W. Rump. Skew braces can be used to construct solutions of the quantum Yang–Baxter equation. In this article, we introduce a notion of action of a skew brace, and show how it leads to solutions of the closely associated reflection equation.

Abstract:L. N. Childs defined a bi-skew brace to be a skew brace such that if we swap the role of the two operations, then we find again a skew brace. In this paper, we give a systematic analysis of bi-skew braces. We study nilpotency and solubility, and connections between bi-skew braces and set-theoretic solutions of the Yang–Baxter equation. Further, we deal with Byott's conjecture in the case of bi-skew braces, and we use bi-skew braces as a tool to solve a classification problem proposed by L. Vendramin. In the final part, we investigate brace blocks, defined by A. Koch to be families of group operations on a given set such that any two of them yield a bi-skew brace. We provide a characterisation of brace blocks, illustrate how all known constructions in literature follow in a natural way from our characterisation, and give several new examples.

Abstract:We introduce strong left ideals of skew braces and prove that they produce non-trivial decomposition of set-theoretic solutions of the Yang–Baxter equation. We study factorization of skew left braces through strong left ideals and we prove analogs of Itô’s theorem in the context of skew left braces. As a corollary, we obtain applications to the retractability problem of involutive non-degenerate solutions of the Yang–Baxter equation. Finally, we classify skew braces that contain no non-trivial proper characteristic ideals.

Abstract:Abstract Let {r\colon X^{2}\rightarrow X^{2}} be a set-theoretic solution of the Yang–Baxter equation on a finite set X . It was proven by Gateva-Ivanova and Van den Bergh that if r is non-degenerate and involutive, then the algebra {K\langle x\in X\mid xy=uv\text{ if }r(x,y)=(u,v)\rangle} shares many properties with commutative polynomial algebras in finitely many variables; in particular, this algebra is Noetherian, satisfies a polynomial identity and has Gelfand–Kirillov dimension a positive integer. Lebed and Vendramin recently extended this result to arbitrary non-degenerate bijective solutions. Such solutions are naturally associated to finite skew left braces. In this paper we will prove an analogue result for arbitrary solutions {r_{B}} that are associated to a left semi-brace B ; such solutions can be degenerate or can even be idempotent. In order to do so, we first describe such semi-braces and then prove some decompositions results extending those of Catino, Colazzo and Stefanelli.
