Abstract:In the current age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR or Industry 4.0), the digital world has a wealth of data, such as Internet of Things (IoT) data, cybersecurity data, mobile data, business data, social media data, health data, etc. To intelligently analyze these data and develop the corresponding smart and automated applications, the knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI), particularly, machine learning (ML) is the key. Various types of machine learning algorithms such as supervised, unsupervised, semi-supervised, and reinforcement learning exist in the area. Besides, the deep learning, which is part of a broader family of machine learning methods, can intelligently analyze the data on a large scale. In this paper, we present a comprehensive view on these machine learning algorithms that can be applied to enhance the intelligence and the capabilities of an application. Thus, this study's key contribution is explaining the principles of different machine learning techniques and their applicability in various real-world application domains, such as cybersecurity systems, smart cities, healthcare, e-commerce, agriculture, and many more. We also highlight the challenges and potential research directions based on our study. Overall, this paper aims to serve as a reference point for both academia and industry professionals as well as for decision-makers in various real-world situations and application areas, particularly from the technical point of view.

Abstract:As we enter the Industry 5.0 era, enormous volumes of data are being created across digital systems. Machine learning techniques have recently achieved immense success in areas such as intelligent control, decision-making, speech recognition, natural language processing, computer graphics, and computer vision. This despite the significant challenge of analyzing and interpreting massive datasets. Owing to their strong performance, deep learning and machine learning algorithms have become widely deployed across various real-time engineering applications. Developing working knowledge of machine learning is now critical for building automated, smart systems that can process data in domains like healthcare, cybersecurity, and intelligent transportation. There exist multiple strategies in machine learning, including reinforcement learning, semi-supervised learning, unsupervised learning, and supervised learning algorithms. This research provides a comprehensive examination of leveraging machine learning for managing real-time engineering systems, with the goal of augmenting their capabilities and intelligence. It contributes to the understanding of how different machine learning approaches can be applied in real-world use cases like cybersecurity, healthcare, and intelligent transportation. Additionally, it highlights ongoing research objectives and difficulties that machine learning techniques encounter while tackling real-world systems. Abstract:Huge amounts of data are circulating in the digital world in the era of the Industry 5.0 revolution. Due to their amazing performance, Deep Learning and Machine Learning Techniques have recently become extensively recognized and implemented by a variety of real-time engineering applications. Knowledge of machine learning is essential for designing automated and intelligent applications that can handle data in fields such as health, cyber-security, and intelligent transportation systems. There are a range of strategies in the field of machine learning, including reinforcement learning, semi-supervised, unsupervised, and supervised algorithms. This study provides a complete study of managing real-time engineering applications using machine learning, which will improve an application's capabilities and intelligence. Abstract:Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) can harness the immense amount of operational data from clouds to services, to social and communication networks. In the era of data science and connected devices of all varieties, Intelligence have found ways to improve operations and management of next generation networks, systems, and services. Further research is therefore needed to understand and improve the potential and suitability of ML/AI in the context of network, system, and service operations and management. This will provide deeper understanding and better decision making based on largely collected and available operational and management data. It will also present opportunities for improving ML/AI algorithms on aspects such as reliability, dependability, and scalability, as well as demonstrate the benefits of these methods in control and management systems. Moreover, there is an opportunity to define novel platforms that can harness the vast operational data and advance ML/AI algorithms to drive management decisions in open and highly programmable networks, clouds, and data centers.

Abstract:The emergence and continued reliance on the Internet and related technologies has resulted in the generation of large amounts of data that can be made available for analyses. However, humans do not possess the cognitive capabilities to understand such large amounts of data. Machine learning (ML) provides a mechanism for humans to process large amounts of data, gain insights about the behavior of the data, and make more informed decision based on the resulting analysis. ML has applications in various fields. This review focuses on some of the fields and applications such as education, healthcare, network security, banking and finance, and social media. Within these fields, there are multiple unique challenges that exist. However, ML can provide solutions to these challenges, as well as create further research opportunities. Accordingly, this work surveys some of the challenges facing the aforementioned fields and presents some of the previous literature works that tackled them. Moreover, it suggests several research opportunities that benefit from the use of ML to address these challenges.

Supervised learning techniques are to minimize the prediction error such as mean square error (MSE) and misclassification rate, or maximize the conditional likelihood, posterior probability, etc. Unsupervised learning techniques usually group instances into clusters in a way that instances within each group are optimally similar while they are distant from instances in other groups. In reinforcement learning, the goal of an agent is to maximize its cumulative reward. However, there is still room to exploit optimization and operations research (OR) in machine learning, and vice versa.

Abstract:With the development in technology, many other technologies like machine learning (ML), deep learning, blockchain technology, Internet of Things, and quantum computing have taken place in this current era. These technologies are helping human being to live their life comfortably and without any hurdle. Today, technology is helping human and protecting nature with minimum waste of available/limited resources. Among these inventions, ML and deep learning are two unique inventions which have attract many researchers or computer science researchers (or many research communities) to solve complex problems through ML. Today, ML use has been moved in many sectors to increase productivity of businesses; for example, for retail/marketing purpose, churn prediction of customers, for e‐healthcare, and detecting disease in early stages. These are the few examples where ML is used in this current smart era. Together, this deep learning also has increased its importance over ML in many applications like bio‐informatics, health informatics, identification of images or handwritten languages, and audio recognition. Many researchers get problematic scenario when they are not sure about particular use of machine and deep learning. This work fulfil such conditions/requirements and provide a complete details about ML and deep learning, i.e., with its evolution to forefront use, to use in many applications, to benefiting to the society, and to challenges and potential limitation in the respective learning techniques.

Abstract:With recent advances, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) approaches have emerged to show great promise in the field of wireless communications. Although some researchers are skeptical due to issues concerning complexity and reliability, benefits include the near-optimal performance or the improvement over current state-of-the-art techniques. Luckily, the big data technology delivers an excellent advantage for studying the essential characteristics of wireless networks that can be integrated with AI and ML approaches. Moreover, the recent advances in deep learning, convolutional neural networks, and reinforcement learning hold significant promise. Indeed, they offer new design approaches for solving some challenging problems that, until recently, were considered intractable.

Abstract:The preceding three decades have seen the emergence, rise, and proliferation of machine learning (ML). From half-recognised beginnings in perceptrons, neural nets, and decision trees, algorithms that extract correlations (that is, patterns) from a set of data points have broken free from their origin in computational cognition to embrace all forms of problem solving, from voice recognition to medical diagnosis to automated scientific research and driverless cars, and it is now widely opined that the real industrial revolution lies less in mobile phone and similar than in the maturation and universal application of ML. Among the consequences just might be the triumph of anti-realism over realism.

Abstract:With the rapid technological development and production requirement, machines and equipment in modern industry, such as advanced manufacturing, transportation, aerospace, and civil infrastructure, become increasingly functional and complex. Machine fault diagnosis plays a significant role for the productivity, reliability, and safety of industrial systems. In the recent decade, data-driven solutions have become more effective and promising for fault diagnosis of complex machines due to increasing data availability and processing capacity. Artificial intelligence (AI) techniques, especially deep learning approaches, are the most powerful tools in achieving accurate fault diagnosis of complex systems. However, AI-based fault diagnosis still faces great challenges in feasibility and reliability for real applications, including the lack of fault condition data, varying working conditions, insufficient generalization capability of AI models, the black-box nature of most AI methods, etc. This special section focuses on advanced and innovative solutions to address a broad view of problems about AI-based machine fault diagnosis. Six out of 18 submissions included in this special section summarize some of the research and applications in this field.
