Abstract:The solid electrolyte Li0.5La0.5TiO3 is widely used in solid-state batteries due to its high grain conductivity at room temperature (RT). Researchers have often improved its huge grain boundary impedance by optimizing its crystal structure and doping it with suitable elements. Here, an Li0.5−y+xSrxLa0.5−xTi1−yNbyO3(LLSTN, x = 0, 0.04, 0.06, 0.08, and 0.1 mol%) ceramic solid electrolyte was prepared via the conventional solid-state reaction method. The introduction of Sr2+ and Nb5+ increases the lithium-ion content and transforms the Li3xLa2/3−xTiO3 (LLTO) crystal structure from tetragonal to cubic. The resultant LLSTN samples have a high conductivity and are characterized by the coexistence of the two phases. On the other hand, the lattice constant becomes larger, causing the migration channel of the lithium ions to become larger. At the same time, the introduction of Nb5+ increases the concentration of lithium vacancies, which facilitates the transport of the lithium ions. With increasing doping amount, lithium lanthanum niobate is formed between the the crystals grains, which inhibits grain growth. The presence of lithium lanthanum niobate, which is an ionic conductor, at the grain boundaries, effectively decreases the LLTO grain boundary impedance. The conductivity of sample Li0.5La0.42Sr0.08Ti0.92Nb0.08O3 reaches 5.10×10−5S·cm−1 at RT, which is about six times higher than that of the undoped sample, and the activation energy is 0.28 eV.
