Abstract:The authors show that the self-similar set for a finite family of contractive similitudes (similaxities, i.e., \f(i)(x) - f(i)(y)\ = a(i)\x - y\, x,y is an element of R-N, where 0 < ai < 1) is uniformly perfect except the case that it is a singleton. As a corollary, it is proved that this self-similar set has positive Hausdorff dimension provided that it is not a singleton. And a lower bound of the upper box dimension of the uniformly perfect sets is given: Meanwhile the uniformly perfect set with Hausdorff measure zero in its Hausdorff dimension is given.

Abstract:The characteristics of cookie-cutter sets in ℝ d are investigated. A Bowen's formula for the Hausdorff dimension of a cookie-cutter set in terms of the pressure function is derived. The existence of self-similar measures, conformal measures and Gibbs measures on cookie-cutter sets is proved. The dimension spectrum of each of these measures is analyzed. In addition, the locally uniformly α-dimensional condition and the fractal Plancherel Theorem for these measures are shown. Finally, the existence of order-two density for the Hausdorff measure of a cookie-cutter set is proved.

Abstract:Let E,F ⊂ Rd be two self-similar sets, and suppose that F can be affinely embedded into E. Under the assumption that E is dust-like and has a small Hausdorff dimension, we prove the logarithmic commensurability between the contraction ratios of E and F. This gives a partial affirmative answer to Conjecture 1.2 in [9]. The proof is based on our study of the boxcounting dimension of a class of multi-rotation invariant sets on the unit circle, including the αβ-sets initially studied by Engelking and Katznelson.

Abstract:We study the exact Hausdorff and packing dimensions of the prime Cantor set, , which comprises the irrationals whose continued fraction entries are prime numbers. We prove that the Hausdorff measure of the prime Cantor set cannot be finite and positive with respect to any sufficiently regular dimension function, thus negatively answering a question of Mauldin and Urbański (1999) and Mauldin (2013) for this class of dimension functions. By contrast, under a reasonable number-theoretic conjecture we prove that the packing measure of the conformal measure on the prime Cantor set is in fact positive and finite with respect to the dimension function , where is the dimension (conformal, Hausdorff, and packing) of the prime Cantor set.

Abstract:This paper is mainly concerned with Hausdorff dimensions of Besicovitch-Eggleston subsets in countable symbolic space. A notable point is that the dimension values possess a universal lower bound depending only on the underlying metric. As a consequence of the main results, we obtain Hausdorff dimension formulae for sets of real numbers with prescribed digit frequencies in their Luroth expansions.

Abstract:For a probability vector (p(0),p(1)) there exists a corresponding self-similar Borel probability measure mu supported on the Cantor set C (with the strong separation property) in R generated by a contractive similitude h(i)(x) = a(i)x + b(i), i = 0, 1. Let S denote the set of points of C at which the probability distribution function F(x) of p has no derivative, finite or infinite. The Hausdorff and packing dimensions of S have been found by several authors for the case that p(i) > a(i), i = 0, 1. However, when p(0) < a(0) (or equivalently p(1) < a(1)) the structure of S changes significantly and the previous approaches fail to be effective any more. The present paper is devoted to determining the Hausdorff and packing dimensions of S for the case p(0) < a(0).
Interior of certain sums and continuous images of very thin Cantor sets

Abstract:We show that for all Cantor set $K_1$ on ${\mathbb R}^d$, it is always possible to find another Cantor set $K_2$ so that the sum $g(K_1)+ K_2$ (where $g$ is a $C^1$ local diffeomorphism) has non-empty interior, and the existence of the interior is robust under small perturbation of the mapping. More generally, we can also show that the image set $H(\alpha, K_1,K_2)$, where $H$ is some $C^1$ function on ${\mathbb R}^N\times{\mathbb R}^d\times{\mathbb R}^d$ with non-vanishing Jacobian, have non-empty interior for $\alpha$ all in an open ball of ${\mathbb R}^N$. This result allows us to show that all Cantor sets are not topologically universal using $C^1$ local diffeomorphism, proving a stronger version of the topological Erdős similarity conjecture. Moreover, we are also able to construct a Cantor set of dimension $d$ on ${\mathbb R}^{2d}$, whose distance set has an interior.

Abstract:For Cantor circle Julia sets of hyperbolic rational maps, we prove that they are quasisymmetrically equivalent to standard Cantor circles (i.e., connected components are round circles). This gives a quasisymmetric uniformization of all Cantor circle Julia sets of hyperbolic rational maps. By analyzing the combinatorial information of the rational maps whose Julia sets are Cantor circles, we give a computational formula of the number of the Cantor circle hyperbolic components in the moduli space of rational maps for any fixed degree. We calculate the Hausdorff dimensions of the Julia sets which are Cantor circles, and prove that for any Cantor circle hyperbolic component H in the space of rational maps, the infimum of the Hausdorff dimensions of the Julia sets of the maps in H is equal to the conformal dimension of the Julia set of any representative f(0) is an element of H, and that the supremum of the Hausdorff dimensions is equal to 2.

Abstract:We construct Ahlfors regular Cantor sets $K$ of small dimension in the plane, such that the Hausdorff measure on $K$ is equivalent to the harmonic measure associated to its complement. In particular the Green function in $R^2 \backslash K$ satisfies $G^p (x) \simeq \mathrm{dist} (x, K)^\delta$ whenever $\mathrm{dist} (x, K) \le 1$ and $p$ is far from $K$.

Abstract:In this paper we investigate the Lipschitz equivalence of dust-like self-similar sets in R-d. One of the fundamental results by Falconer and Marsh [On the Lipschitz equivalence of Cantor sets, Mathematika, 39 (1992), 223-233] establishes conditions for Lipschitz equivalence based on the algebraic properties of the contraction ratios of the self-similar sets. In this paper we extend the study by examining deeper such connections.A key ingredient of our study is the introduction of a new equivalent relation between two dust-like self-similar sets called a matchable condition. Thanks to a certain measure-preserving property of bi-Lipschitz maps between dust-like self-similar sets, we show that the matchable condition is a necessary condition for Lipschitz equivalence.Using the matchable condition we prove several conditions on the Lipschitz equivalence of dust-like self-similar sets based on the algebraic properties of the contraction ratios, which include a complete characterization of Lipschitz equivalence when the multiplication groups generated by the contraction ratios have full rank. We also completely characterize the Lipschitz equivalence of dust-like self-similar sets with two branches (i.e., they are generated by IFS with two contractive similarities). Some other results are also presented, including a complete characterization of Lipschitz equivalence when one of the self-similar sets has uniform contraction ratio.

Abstract:We consider Non Autonomous Conformal Iterative Function Systems (NACIFS) and their limit set. Our main concern is harmonic measure and its dimensions : Hausdorff and Packing. We prove that this two dimensions are continuous under perturbations and that they verify Bowen's and Manning's type formulas. In order to do so we prove general results about measures, and more generally about positive functionals, defined on a symbolic space, developing tools from thermodynamical formalism in a non-autonomous setting.

On the sum of two affine Cantor sets

Abstract:Suppose that $K$ and $ K'$ are two affine Cantor sets. It is shown that the sum set $K+K'$ has equal box and Hausdorff dimensions and in this number named $s$, $H^s(K+K')<\infty$. Moreover, for almost every pair $(K,K')$ satisfying $HD(K)+HD(K')\leq 1$, there is a dense subset $D\subset \mathbb R$ such that $H^s(K+\lambda K')=0$, for all $\lambda\in D$. It also is shown that in the context of affine Cantor sets with two increasing maps, there are generically (topological and almost everywhere) five possible structures for their sum: a Cantor set, an L, R, M-Cantorval or a finite union of closed intervals.

Intersections of Cantor Sets Derived from Complex Radix Expansions

Abstract:Let $C$ be the attractor of the IFS $\{f_{d}(z) = (-n+i)^{-1}(z+d): d\in D\}$, $D\subset\{0, 1, \ldots, n^{2}\}$ and let $\dim$ denote the box-counting dimension. It is known that for all $\lambda\in[0, 1]$, that the set of complex numbers $\alpha$ for which $\dim(C\cap(C+\alpha)) = \lambda\dim(C)$ is dense in the set of $\alpha$ for which $C \cap (C + \alpha) \neq \emptyset$ when $d \leq n^{2}/2$ for all $d\in D$ and $|\delta - \delta^{'}| > n$ for all $\delta \neq \delta^{'} \in D - D$. We show that this result still holds when we replace $|\delta - \delta^{'}| > n$ with $|\delta - \delta^{'}| > 1$. In fact, for sufficiently large $n$, the result even holds when we remove the assumption $d\leq n^{2}/2$ and replace $|\delta - \delta^{'}| > n$ by $|\delta - \delta^{'}| > 2$. Additionally, we make similar statements where $\dim$ denotes the Hausdorff dimension or packing dimension. Our insights also find application in classifying the self-similarity of $C\cap(C+\alpha)$. Namely we connect the occurrence of self-similarity to the notion of strongly eventually periodic sequences seen for analogous objects on the real line. We also provide a new proof of a result of W. Gilbert that inspired this work.

Abstract:The geometry of Cantor systems associated with an asymptotically non-hyperbolic family $(f_\epsilon)_{0\le\epsilon\le \epsilon_0}$ was studied by Jiang (Geometry of Cantor systems. Trans. Amer. Math. Soc.351 (1999), 1975–1987). By applying the geometry studied there, we prove that the Hausdorff dimension of the maximal invariant set of $f_\epsilon$ behaves like $1- K\epsilon^{1/\gamma}$ asymptotically, as was conjectured by Jiang (Generalized Ulam–von Neumann transformations. Abstract:The cookie-cutter-like set is defined as the limit set of a sequence of classical cookie-cutter mappings. For this cookie-cutter set it is shown that the topological pressure function exists, and that the fractal dimensions such as the Hausdorff dimension, the packing dimension and the box-counting dimension are all equal to the unique zero $h$ of the pressure function. Moreover, it is shown that the $h$-dimensional Hausdorff measure and the $h$-dimensional packing measure are finite and positive.

Abstract:Let $ K $ be a compact subset of the $d$-torus invariant under an expanding diagonal endomorphism with $ s $ distinct eigenvalues. Suppose the symbolic coding of $K$ satisfies weak specification. When $ s \leq 2 $, we prove that the following three statements are equivalent: (A) the Hausdorff and box dimensions of $ K $ coincide; (B) with respect to some gauge function, the Hausdorff measure of $ K $ is positive and finite; (C) the Hausdorff dimension of the measure of maximal entropy on $ K $ attains the Hausdorff dimension of $ K $. When $ s \geq 3 $, we find some examples in which (A) does not hold but (C) holds, which is a new phenomenon not appearing in the planar cases. Through a different probabilistic approach, we establish the equivalence of (A) and (B) for Bedford-McMullen sponges.
