Abstract:Individuals with Parkinson disease (PD) develop gait impairments and balance problems over time that interfere with their participation in meaningful activities in their homes and communities. 1 Interventions that promote motor learning to optimize functional mobility in individuals with neurologic impairments often provide high repetition, task-oriented movement training. 2 , 3 As examples, repetitive practice of stepping through treadmill walking or external cueing techniques improves walking performance in PD populations. 4 However, many individuals cannot regularly exercise due to barriers including lack of access to exercise facilities, physical impairments, and low motivation (apathy). 5 , 6
