Abstract:In this paper, we attempt to determine the quantum cohomology of projective bundles over the projective space P^n. In contrast to the previous examples, the relevant moduli spaces in our case frequently do not have expected dimensions. It makes the calculation more difficult. We overcome this difficulty by using excessive intersection theory.

Abstract:For any quiver $Q$ and dimension vector $v$, Le Bruyn--Procesi proved that the invariant ring for the action of the change of basis group on the space of representations $\textrm{Rep}(Q,v)$ is generated by the traces of matrix products associated to cycles in the quiver. We generalise this to allow for vertices where the group acts trivially, and we give relations between the generators of the invariant algebra for quivers with relations. As a geometric application, we prove for $n\geq 1$ that the Hilbert scheme of $n$-points on an ADE surface singularity is isomorphic to a Nakajima quiver variety. This allows us to generalise the well known theorem of [Fogarty] by showing that the Hilbert scheme of $n$-points on a normal surface with canonical singularities is a normal variety of dimension $2n$ with canonical singularities. In addition, we show that if $S$ has symplecic singularities over $\mathbb{C}$, then so does the Hilbert scheme of $n$-points on $S$, thereby generalising a result of Beauville.

Unexpected but recurrent phenomena for Quot and Hilbert schemes of points

Abstract:We investigate some aspects of the geometry of two classical generalisations of the Hilbert schemes of points. Precisely, we show that parity conjecture for $\text{Quot}_r^d\mathbb{A}^3$ already fails for $d=8$ and $r=2$ and that lots of the elementary components of the nested Hilbert schemes of points on smooth quasi-projective varieties of dimension at least 4 are generically non-reduced. We also deduce that nested Hilbert schemes of points on smooth surfaces have generically non-reduced components. Finally, we give an infinite family of elementary components of the classical Hilbert schemes of points.

Abstract:We prove that the Hilbert scheme of $k$ points on $\mathbb{C}^2$ (Hilb$^k[\mathbb{C}^2]$) is self-dual under three-dimensional mirror symmetry using methods of geometry and integrability. Namely, we demonstrate that the corresponding quantum equivariant K-theory is invariant upon interchanging its Kähler and equivariant parameters as well as inverting the weight of the $\mathbb{C}^\times_\hbar$-action. First, we find a two-parameter family $X_{k,l}$ of self-mirror quiver varieties of type A and study their quantum K-theory algebras. The desired quantum K-theory of Hilb$^k[\mathbb{C}^2]$ is obtained via direct limit $l\to\infty$ and by imposing certain periodic boundary conditions on the quiver data. Throughout the proof, we employ the quantum/classical (q-Langlands) correspondence between XXZ Bethe Ansatz equations and spaces of twisted $\hbar$-opers. In the end, we propose the 3d mirror dual for the moduli spaces of torsion-free rank-$N$ sheaves on $\mathbb{P}^2$ with the help of a different (three-parametric) family of type A quiver varieties with known mirror dual.

Creating quantum projective spaces by deforming q-symmetric algebras

Abstract:We construct a large collection of "quantum projective spaces", in the form of Koszul, Calabi-Yau algebras with the Hilbert series of a polynomial ring. We do so by starting with the toric ones (the q-symmetric algebras), and then deforming their relations using a diagrammatic calculus, proving unobstructedness of such deformations under suitable nondegeneracy conditions. We then prove that these algebras are identified with the canonical quantizations of corresponding families of quadratic Poisson structures, in the sense of Kontsevich. In this way, we obtain the first broad class of quadratic Poisson structures for which his quantization can be computed explicitly, and shown to converge, as he conjectured in 2001.

The geometry of double nested Hilbert schemes of points on curves

Abstract:Let $C$ be a smooth curve. In this paper we investigate the geometric properties of the double nested Hilbert scheme of points on $C$, a moduli space introduced by the third author in the context of BPS invariants of local curves and sheaf counting on Calabi-Yau 3-folds. We prove this moduli space is connected, reduced and of pure dimension; we list its components via an explicit combinatorial characterisation and we show they can be resolved, when singular, by products of symmetric products of $C$. We achieve this via a purely algebraic analysis of the factorisation properties of the monoid of reverse plane partitions. We discuss the (virtual) fundamental class of the moduli space, we describe the local equations cutting it inside a smooth ambient space, and finally we provide a closed formula for its motivic class in the Grothendieck ring of varieties.

Hilbert schemes for crepant partial resolutions

Abstract:For $n\geq 1$, we construct the Hilbert scheme of $n$ points on any crepant partial resolution of a Kleinian singularity as a Nakajima quiver variety for an explicit GIT stability parameter. We provide both a short proof involving a combinatorial argument, in which the isomorphism is implicit, and a more satisfying geometric proof where the isomorphic is constructed explicitly. As a corollary, we compute the nef and movable cones of the Hilbert scheme of $n$ points on any crepant partial resolution of a Kleinian singularity in terms of the summands of a tilting bundle on the surface.

Representations in Strange Duality: Hilbert Schemes paired with higher rank spaces

Abstract:We examine a sequence of examples of pairs of moduli spaces of sheaves on $\mathbb P^2$ where Le Potier's strange duality is expected to hold. One of the moduli spaces in these pairs is the Hilbert scheme of two points. We compute the sections of the relevant theta bundle as a representation of $SL(X)$, where $\mathbb P^2=\mathbb P(X)$. For the higher rank space, we construct a moduli space using the resolution of exceptional bundles from Coskun, Huizenga, and Woolf. We compute a subspace of the sections of the theta bundle which is dual to the sections on the Hilbert scheme. In the second part, we use a result from Goller and Lin to rigorously apply the "finte Quot scheme method", introduced in Marian and Oprea, and Bertram, Goller, and Johnson. This requires us to prove that the kernels in appearing in the Quot scheme have the appropriate resolution by exceptional bundles.

Hyperquot schemes on curves: virtual class and motivic invariants

Abstract:Let $C$ be a smooth projective curve, $E$ a locally free sheaf. Hyperquot schemes on $C$ parametrise flags of coherent quotients of $E$ with fixed Hilbert polynomial, and offer alternative compactifications to the spaces of maps from $C$ to partial flag varieties. Motivated by enumerative geometry, in this paper we construct a perfect obstruction theory (and hence a virtual class and a virtual structure sheaf) on these moduli spaces, which we use to provide criteria for smoothness and unobstructedness. Under these assumptions, we determine their motivic partition function in the Grothendieck ring of varieties, in terms of the motivic zeta function of $C$.

Abstract:We construct virtual fundamental classes on nested Hilbert schemes of points and curves in complex nonsingular projective surfaces. These classes recover the virtual classes of Seiberg-Witten theory as well as the (reduced) stable theory, and play a crucial role in the reduced Donaldson-Thomas theory of local-surface-threefolds that we study in [GSY17b] (arXiv:1807.05697). We show that certain integrals against the virtual fundamental classes of punctual nested Hilbert schemes are expressed as integrals over the products of the Hilbert scheme of points. We are able to find explicit formulas for some of these integrals by relating them to Carlsson-Okounkov's vertex operator formulas.

Abstract:Suppose that a Hilbert scheme of points on a K3 surface S of Picard rank one admits a rational Lagrangian fibration. We show that if the degree of the surface is sufficiently large compared to the number of points, then the Hilbert scheme is the unique hyperkähler manifold in its birational class. In particular, the Hilbert scheme is a Lagrangian fibration itself, which we realize as coming from a (twisted) Beauville–Mukai system on a Fourier–Mukai partner of S . We also show that when the degree of the surface is small our method can be used to find all birational models of the Hilbert scheme.

The motive of the Hilbert scheme of points in all dimensions

Abstract:We prove a closed formula for the generating function $\mathsf Z_d(t)$ of the motives $[\mathrm{Hilb}^d(\mathbb A^n)_0] \in K_0(\mathrm{Var}_{\mathbb C})$ of punctual Hilbert schemes, summing over $n$, for fixed $d>0$. The result is an expression for $\mathsf Z_d(t)$ as the product of the zeta function of $\mathbb P^{d-1}$ and a polynomial $\mathsf P_d(t)$, which in particular implies that $\mathsf Z_d(t)$ is a rational function. Moreover, we reduce the complexity of $\mathsf P_d(t)$ to the computation of $d-8$ initial data, and therefore give explicit formulas for $\mathsf Z_d(t)$ in the cases $d \leq 8$, which in turn yields a formula for $[\mathrm{Hilb}^{\leq 8}(X)]$ for any smooth variety $X$. We perform a similar analysis for the Quot scheme of points, obtaining explicit formulas for the full generating function (summing over all ranks and dimensions) for $d \leq 4$. In the limit $n \to \infty$, we prove that the motives $[\mathrm{Hilb}^d(\mathbb A^n)_0]$ stabilise to the class of the infinite Grassmannian $\mathrm{Gr}(d-1,\infty)$. Finally, exploiting our geometric methods, we conjecture (and partially confirm) a structural result on the 'error' measuring the discrepancy between the count of higher dimensional partitions and MacMahon's famous guess.

Abstract:We prove a closed formula for leading Gopakumar–Vafa BPS invariants of local Calabi–Yau geometries given by the canonical line bundles of toric Fano surfaces. It shares some similar features with Göttsche–Yau–Zaslow formula: Connection with Hilbert schemes, connection with quasimodular forms, and quadratic property after suitable transformation. In Part I of this paper we will present the case of projective plane, more general cases will be presented in Part II.

Abstract:The principal goal of this paper is to pass all quantum probability formulas to the projective space associated to the complex Hilbert space of a given quantum system, providing a more complete geometrization of quantum theory. Quantum events have consecutive and conditional probabilities, which have been used in the author's previous work to clarify 'collapse' and to generalize the concept of entanglement by incorporating it into quantum probability theory. In this way all of standard textbook quantum theory can be understood as a geometric theory of projective subspaces without any special role for the zero-dimensional projective subspaces, which are also called pure states. The upshot is that quantum theory is the probability theory of projective subspaces, or equivalently, of quantum events. For the sake of simplicity the ideas are developed here in the context of a type I factor, but comments will be given about how to adopt this approach to more general von Neumann algebras.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that the singular locus of $\mathrm{Sec} (X^{[2]})$ coincides with $X^{[2]}$ under the Grothendieck-Plücker embedding $X^{[2]} \hookrightarrow \mathbb{P}^N$ when $X$ is embedded by a $4$-very ample line bundle. We also prove that the embedding $X^{[2]} \hookrightarrow \mathbb{P}^N$ satisfies Green's condition $(N_p)$ when the embedding of $X$ is positive enough. As an application, we describe the geometry of a resolution of singularities from the secant bundle to $\mathrm{Sec}(X^{[2]})$ when $X$ is a surface.

Abstract:We give a method of counting the number of curves with a given type of singularity in a suitably ample linear series on a smooth surface using punctual Hilbert schemes. The types of singularities for which our results suffice include the topological type with local equation xa+yb with ⩽a⩽3b. We work out the example of curves with the analytic type of singularity with local equation x2+yn for 1<n<9.

Abstract:In this paper, I will discuss the geometrical structures of multipartite quantum systems based on complex projective schemes. In particular, I will explicitly construct multi-qubit states in terms of these schemes and also discuss separability and entanglement of bipartite and multipartite quantum states. These results give some geometrical insight to the fascinating quantum mechanical phenomena of entanglement which is fundamentally important and has many applications in the field of quantum computing.

Abstract:Let $Hilb^d(A^3)$ be the Hilbert scheme of $d$ points in $A^3$, and let $T_z$ denote the tangent space to a point $z \in Hilb^d(A^3)$. Okounkov and Pandharipande have conjectured that $\dim T_z$ and $d$ have the same parity for every $z$. For points $z$ parametrizing monomial ideals, the conjecture was proved by Maulik, Nekrasov, Okounkov, and Pandharipande. In this paper, we settle the conjecture for points $z$ parametrizing homogeneous ideals. In fact, we state a generalization of the conjecture to Quot schemes of $A^3$, and we prove it for points parametrizing graded modules.

Abstract:To each complex reflection group $\Gamma$ one can attach a canonical symplectic singularity $\mathcal{M}_\Gamma$ <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="math/9903070" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/math/9903070">arXiv:math/9903070</a>. Motivated by the 4D/2D duality <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1312.5344" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1312.5344">arXiv:1312.5344</a>, <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1707.07679" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1707.07679">arXiv:1707.07679</a>, Bonetti, Meneghelli and Rastelli <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1810.03612" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1810.03612">arXiv:1810.03612</a> conjectured the existence of a supersymmetric vertex operator superalgebra $\mathsf{W}_\Gamma$ whose associated variety is isomorphic to $\mathcal{M}_\Gamma$. We prove this conjecture when the complex reflection group $\Gamma$ is the symmetric group $S_N$ by constructing a sheaf of $\hbar$-adic vertex operator superalgebras on the Hilbert scheme of $N$ points in the plane. For that case, we also show the free-field realisation of $\mathsf{W}_\Gamma$ in terms of $\operatorname{rk}(\Gamma)$ many $\beta\gamma bc$-systems proposed in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1810.03612" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1810.03612">arXiv:1810.03612</a>, and identify the character of $\mathsf{W}_\Gamma$ as a certain quasimodular form of mixed weight and multiple $q$-zeta value. In physical terms, the vertex operator superalgebra $\mathsf{W}_{S_N}$ constructed in this article corresponds via the 4D/2D duality <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1312.5344" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1312.5344">arXiv:1312.5344</a> to the four-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory with gauge group $\operatorname{SL}_N$.

Abstract:Considering homogeneous four-dimensional space-time geometries within real projective geometry provides a mathematically well-defined framework to discuss their deformations and limits without the appearance of coordinate singularities. On Lie algebra level the related conjugacy limits act isomorphically to concatenations of contractions. We axiomatically introduce projective quantum fields on homogeneous space-time geometries, based on correspondingly generalized unitary transformation behavior and projectivization of the field operators. Projective correlators and their expectation values remain well-defined in all geometry limits, which includes their ultraviolet and infrared limits. They can degenerate with support on space-time boundaries and other lower-dimensional space-time subspaces. We explore fermionic and bosonic superselection sectors as well as the irreducibility of projective quantum fields. Dirac fermions appear, which obey spin-statistics as composite quantum fields. The framework systematically formalizes and generalizes the ambient space techniques regularly employed in conformal field theory.
