Abstract:We study the hyperbolic and elliptic versions of the sine-Gordon and sinh-Gordon equations on the real plane in a unified way and we construct solutions via the methods of functional separation and the Hirota bilinear method. Abstract:It is well known that the Laplace cascade method is an effective tool for constructing solutions to linear equations of hyperbolic type, as well as nonlinear equations of the Liouville type. The connection between the Laplace method and soliton equations of hyperbolic type remains less studied. The article shows that the Laplace cascade also has important applications in the theory of hyperbolic equations of the soliton type. Laplace's method provides a simple way to construct such fundamental objects related to integrability theory as the recursion operator, the Lax pair and Dubrovin-type equations, allowing one to find algebro-geometric solutions. As an application of this approach, previously unknown recursion operators and Lax pairs are found for two nonlinear integrable equations of the sine-Gordon type.

Abstract:This paper contains first results on the finite-gap integration of the Sine-Gordon equation. They were published on Russian in 1976. The papers \cite{Koz}, \cite{KK}, \cite{KK02} have been rewritten in the English language with small modifications for a convenience. Such a translation was made due to requests of some interested readers. In those papers, the method of constructing of the finite-gap solutions of the equation $u_{tt}-u_{xx}+\sin u=0$ was proposed. The explicit formulae were obtained for these solutions. The formulae are constructed in terms of $\theta$-functions and they are analogous to the formulae obtained by <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://A.R.Its" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> and <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://V.B.Matveev" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> \cite{IM}, <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://B.A.Dubrovin" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> and <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://S.P.Novikov" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> \cite{DN} for periodic and almost periodic solutions to the Korteweg de Vries equation.

Reduction of the Laplace sequence and sine-Gordon type equations

Abstract:In this work, we continue the development of methods for constructing Lax pairs and recursion operators for nonlinear integrable hyperbolic equations of soliton type, previously proposed in the work of Habibullin et al. (2016 {\it J. Phys. A: Math. Theor.} {\bf 57} 015203). This approach is based on the use of the well-known theory of Laplace transforms. The article completes the proof that for any known integrable equation of sine-Gordon type, the sequence of Laplace transforms associated with its linearization admits a third-order finite-field reduction. It is shown that the found reductions are closely related to the Lax pair and recursion operators for both characteristic directions of the given hyperbolic equation. Previously unknown Lax pairs and recursion operators were constructed.

Symmetry Integrability and Geometry Methods and Applications

Abstract:We provide superposition formulae for the six cases of Bäcklund transformations corresponding to space-like and time-like surfaces in the 3-dimensional pseudo-Euclidean space. In each case, the surfaces have constant negative or positive Gaussian curvature and they correspond to solutions of one of the following equations: the sine-Gordon, the sinh-Gordon, the elliptic sine-Gordon and the elliptic sinh-Gordon equation. The superposition formulae provide infinitely many solutions algebraically after the first integration of the Bäcklund transformation. Such transformations and the corresponding superposition formulae provide solutions of the same hyperbolic equation, while they show an unusual property for the elliptic equations. The Bäcklund transformation alternates solutions of the elliptic sinh-Gordon equation with those of the elliptic sine-Gordon equation and the superposition formulae provide solutions of the same elliptic equation. Explicit examples and illustrations are given.

Abstract:The Lie algebraic integrability test is applied to the problem of classification of integrable Klein-Gordon type equations on quad-graphs. The list of equations passing the test is presented containing several well-known integrable models. A new integrable example is found, its higher symmetry is presented.

Abstract:We explore the application of generating symmetries, i.e. symmetries that depend on a parameter, to integrable hyperbolic third order equations, and in particular to consistent pairs of such equations as introduced by Adler and Shabat (AS). Our main result is that different infinite hierarchies of symmetries for these equations can arise from a single generating symmetry by expansion about different values of the parameter. We illustrate this, and study in depth the symmetry structure, for two examples. The first is an equation related to the potential KdV equation taken from AS. The second is a more general hyperbolic equation than the kind considered in AS. Both equations depend on a parameter, and when this parameter vanishes they become part of a consistent pair. When this happens, the nature of the expansions of the generating symmetries needed to derive the hierarchies also changes.

Abstract:In this paper, a classification of semidiscrete equations of hyperbolic type is carried out. We study the class of equations of the form $$\frac{du_{n+1}}{dx}=f\left(\frac{du_{n}}{dx},u_{n+1},u_{n}\right),$$ here is the unknown function $u_n (x)$ depends on one discrete $n$ and one continuous $x$ variables. The classification is based on the requirement for the existence of higher symmetries in the discrete and continuous directions. The case is considered when the symmetries are of order 3 in both directions. As a result, a list of equations with the required conditions is obtained.

Abstract:Through the modified deformation algorithm related to conservation laws, the (1+1)-dimensional AKNS(-1) equations are extended to a (4+1)-dimensional AKNS(-1) system. When one, two, or three of the independent variables are removed, the (4+1)-dimensional AKNS(-1) system degenerates to some novel (3+1)-dimensional, (2+1)-dimensional, and (1+1)-dimensional AKNS(-1) systems, respectively. Under a simple dependent transformation, the (1+1)-dimensional AKNS(-1) equations turn into the classical sine-Gordon equation. Then using the same deformation procedure, the (1+1)-dimensional sine-Gordon equation is generalized to a (3+1)-dimensional version. By introducing the deformation operators to the Lax pairs of the original (1+1)-dimensional models, the Lax integrability of both the (4+1)-dimensional AKNS(-1) system and the (3+1)-dimensional sine-Gordon equation is proven. Finally, the traveling wave solutions of the (4+1)-dimensional AKNS(-1) system and the (3+1)-dimensional sine-Gordon equation are implicitly given and expressed by tanh function and incomplete elliptic integral, respectively. These results may enhance our understanding of the complex physical phenomena described by the nonlinear system discussed in this paper.

Abstract:We perform a classification of third order integrable systems of evolution equations with respect to higher symmetries. Applying it, we consider polynomial systems that are 0-homogeneous under a suitable weighting of variables with main matrix $***$ having a seventh-order symmetry. A new integrable equation is discovered. For this new supersymmetric equation the Lax representation and bi-Hamiltonian structures are given.

Abstract:In this paper we prove a global existence result for nonlinear Klein–Gordon equations in infinite homogeneous waveguides, R×M, with smooth small data, where M=(M,g) is a Zoll manifold, or a compact revolution hypersurface. The method is based on normal forms, eigenfunction expansion and the special distribution of eigenvalues of the Laplace–Beltrami on such manifolds.

Abstract:We study a family of Li\'enard--type equations. Such equations are used for the description of various processes in physics, mechanics and biology and also appear as traveling--wave reductions of some nonlinear partial differential equations. In this work we find new conditions for the integrability of this equations family. To this end we use an approach, which is bases on application of nonlocal transformations. By studying connections between this family of Li\'enard--type equations and type III Painlev\'e--Gambier equations, we obtain four new integrability criteria. We illustrate our results by providing examples of some integrable Li\'enard--type equations. We also discuss relationships between linearizability via nonlocal transformations of this family of Li\'enard--type equations and other integrability conditions for this family of equations.

Abstract:The work deals with the qualification of semidiscrete hyperbolic type equations. Integrable discretizations for a generalized sine-Gordon equation and the reductions to the sine-Gordon equation and the short pulse equation

Abstract:In this paper, we propose fully discrete analogues of a generalized sine-Gordon (gsG) equation $u_{t x}=\left(1+\nu \partial_x^2\right) \sin u$. The bilinear equations of the discrete KP hierarchy and the proper definition of discrete hodograph transformations are the keys to the construction. Then we derive semi-discrete analogues of the gsG equation from the fully discrete gsG equation by taking the temporal parameter $b\rightarrow0$. Especially, one full-discrete gsG equation is reduced to a semi-discrete gsG equation in the case of $\nu=-1$ (Feng {\it et al. Numer. Algorithms} 2023). Furthermore, $N$-soliton solutions to the semi- and fully discrete analogues of the gsG equation in the determinant form are constructed. Dynamics of one- and two-soliton solutions for the discrete gsG equations are discussed with plots. We also investigate the reductions to the sine-Gordon (sG) equation and the short pulse (SP) equation. By introducing an important parameter $c$, we demonstrate that the gsG equation reduces to the sG equation and the SP equation, and the discrete gsG equation reduces to the discrete sG equation and the discrete SP equation, respectively, in the appropriate scaling limit. The limiting forms of the $N$-soliton solutions to the gsG equation also correspond to those of the sG equation and the SP equation.

Abstract:We treat the lattice sine-Gordon equation and two of its generalised symmetries as a compatible system. Elimination of shifts from the two symmetries of the lattice sine-Gordon equation yields an integrable NLS-type system. An auto-Bäcklund transformation and a superposition formula for the NLS-type system is obtained by elimination of shifts from the lattice sine-Gordon equation and its down-shifted version. We use the obtained formulae to calculate a superposition of two and three elementary solutions.

Abstract:A special class of integrable nonlinear differential equations related to <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://A.III" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>-type symmetric spaces and having additional reductions are analyzed via the inverse scattering method (ISM). Using the dressing method we construct two classes of soliton solutions associated with the Lax operator. Next, by using the Wronskian relations, the mapping between the potential and the minimal sets of scattering data is constructed. Furthermore, completeness relations for the 'squared solutions' (generalized exponentials) are derived. Next, expansions of the potential and its variation are obtained. This demonstrates that the interpretation of the inverse scattering method as a generalized Fourier transform holds true. Finally, the Hamiltonian structures of these generalized multi-component Heisenberg ferromagnetic (MHF) type integrable models on <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://A.III" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>-type symmetric spaces are briefly analyzed.

Abstract:For a given nonlinear integrable equation in 2 + 1 dimensions, an approach is described to construct the hierarchies of equations and relevant Lie algebraic properties. The commutability and noncommutability of equations of the flow, their symmetries and mastersymmetries are then derived as direct results of these algebraic properties. The details for the modified Kadomtsev-Petviashvilli equation are shown as an example and the main results for the (2 + 1)-dimensional Caudrey-Dodd-Gibbon-Katera-Sawada equation are given.

Abstract:The symmetry approach to the classification of evolution integrable partial differential equations (see, for example \cite{MikShaSok91}) produces an infinite series of functions, defined in terms of the right hand side, that are conserved densities of any equation having infinitely many infinitesimal symmetries. For instance, the function $\frac{\partial f}{\partial u_{x}}$ has to be a conserved density of any integrable equation of the KdV type $u_t=u_{xxx}+f(u,u_x)$. This fact imposes very strong conditions on the form of the function $f$. In this paper we construct similar canonical densities for equations of the Boussinesq type. In order to do that, we write the equations as evolution systems and generalise the formal diagonalisation procedure proposed in \cite{MSY} to these systems.

Abstract:The double elliptic equation method is presented for constructing exact traveling wave solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations. With the aid of Maple, more new exact solutions are obtained for the (n+1)-dimensional sinh-Gordon equation. These solutions contain logarithmic functions, Jacobi elliptic functions, hyperbolic functions, trigonometric functions, and their combinations.

Abstract:Infinitely many nonlocal symmetries and conservation laws of the (1+1)-dimensional Sine-Gordon (SG) equation are derived in terms of its Bäcklund transformation (BT). Some special nonlocal symmetries and nonlocal conservation laws are obtained from the linearized equations of the SG equation and its BT. Furthermore, one can derive infinitely many nonlocal symmetries from a known nonlocal symmetry, but also infinitely many nonlocal conservation laws from a known nonlocal conservation law. In addition, infinitely many local and nonlocal conservation laws can be directed generated from BT through the parameter expansion procedure.
