Abstract:Classification of multipartite pure states via the local unitary (LU) equivalence or the stochastic local operations and classical communication (SLOCC) equivalence is a fundamental task in investigating multipartite entanglement. It is shown in the seminal paper (2000 Phys. Rev. A 62 062314) that pure states of three qubits can be partitioned into six SLOCC classes. We explore here a necessary and sufficient condition for LU equivalence of pure states for any SLOCC class via Acín et al’s Schmidt coefficients (ASC) of three qubits in (2000 Phys. Rev. Lett. 85 1560). We show that the LU equivalent states in W SLOCC class have the same ASC irrespective of phases while there are generally two different ASCs for the LU equivalent states in GHZ SLOCC class (irrespective of phases for some subclass). Consequently, we obtain a complete LU classification of three qubit pure states in the sense of ASC. Moreover, we discuss the choice among the different ASCs and then propose an approach to find a unique ASC for any given three qubit pure state. At last we analyse the entanglement/separability of the marginal states of the two inequivalent genuine entangled SLOCC classes. We find that any bipartite marginal states of the W SLOCC class are entangled, and that of the GHZ SLOCC class has eight different cases which are depend on the ASCs.

Abstract:The quantum probability distribution arising from single-copy von Neumann measurements on an arbitrary two-qubit state is decomposed into the local and nonlocal parts, in the approach of Elitzur, Popescu and Rohrlich [A. Elitzur, S. Popescu, D. Rohrlich, Phys. Lett. A 162 (1992) 25]. A lower bound of the local weight is proved being connected with the concurrence of the state p(L)(max) = 1 - C(rho). Abstract:We study the interconversion of multipartite symmetric $N$-qubit states under stochastic local operations and classical communication (SLOCC). We demonstrate that if two symmetric states can be connected with a nonsymmetric invertible local operation (ILO), then they belong necessarily to the separable, W, or GHZ entanglement class, establishing a practical method of discriminating subsets of entanglement classes. Furthermore, we prove that there always exists a symmetric ILO connecting any pair of symmetric $N$-qubit states equivalent under SLOCC, simplifying the requirements for experimental implementations of local interconversion of those states.

Abstract:Necessary and sufficient conditions for the equivalence of arbitrary n-qubit pure quantum states under Local Unitary (LU) operations are derived. First, an easily computable standard form for multipartite states is introduced. Two generic states are shown to be LU-equivalent iff their standard forms coincide. The LU-equivalence problem for non--generic states is solved by presenting a systematic method to determine the LU operators (if they exist) which interconvert the two states.

Rational Local Unitary Invariants of Symmetrically Mixed States of Two Qubits

Abstract:We compute the field of rational local unitary invariants for locally maximally mixed states and symmetrically mixed states of two qubits. In both cases, we prove that the field of rational invariants is purely transcendental. We also construct explicit geometric quotients and prove that they are always rational. All the results are obtained by working over the field of real numbers, employing methods from classical and geometric invariant theory over arbitrary fields of characteristic zero.

Abstract:Local unitary equivalence is an important ingredient for quantifying and classifying entanglement. Verifying whether or not two quantum states are local unitary equivalent is a crucial problem, where only the case of multipartite pure states is solved. For mixed states, however, the verification of local unitary equivalence is still a challenging problem. In this paper, based on the coefficient matrices of generalized Bloch representations of quantum states, we find a variety of local unitary invariants for arbitrary-dimensional bipartite quantum states. These invariants are operational and can be used as necessary conditions for verifying the local unitary equivalence of two quantum states. Furthermore, we extend the construction to the arbitrary-dimensional multipartite case. We finally apply these invariants to estimate concurrence, a vital entanglement measure, showing the practicability of local unitary invariants in characterizing entanglement.

Toy model for the correlation of qudit bipartite states with maximally mixed marginals

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the local unitary classification of the class of qudit bipartite mixed states for which no information can be obtained locally. These states are represented by symmetrical density matrices in which both tracial states are maximally mixed. Interestingly, this symmetry facilitates the local unitary classification of two-qubit states. However, the same formalism fails in the case of systems of higher dimensions. We consider a broader set of states by introducing a family of qudit bipartite mixed states with maximally mixed marginals. For this family of states, we determine several constants which are in variant under local unitary transformations so can be used for entanglement classification. Finally, we consider the two-qutrit case and in particular, a two-parameter family of states for which the local unitary classification is complete. We relate this classification to known entanglement measures such as purity and negativity.

Abstract:We consider the local unitary equivalence of a class of quantum states in a bipartite case and a multipartite case. The necessary and sufficient condition is presented. As special cases, the local unitary equivalent classes of isotropic state and Werner state are provided. Then we study the local unitary similar equivalence of this class of quantum states and analyze the necessary and sufficient condition.

Abstract:We first reconsider the mathematical background of superqubit theory and describe important peculiarities of superspaces and supermatrices which are usually out of attention. Then we study states in super Hilbert spaces using super-bra/super-ket formalism in details. The qubit (qudit) and superqubit (superqudit) are defined as linear spans in the corresponding Hilbert subspaces. A new kind of superqubit carring the odd parity is introduced. The multi-superqubit states are studied, and the superconcurrence which distinguishes separable states is proposed.

Abstract:The study of state transformations under local operations and classical communication (LOCC) plays a crucial role in entanglement theory. While this has been long ago characterized for pure bipartite states, the situation is drastically different for systems of more parties: generic pure qudit states cannot be obtained from nor transformed to any state (i.e., they are isolated), which contains a different amount of entanglement. We consider here the question of LOCC convertibility for permutation-symmetric pure states of an arbitrary number of parties and local dimension, a class of clear interest both for physical and mathematical reasons and for which the aforementioned result does not apply given that it is a zero-measure subset in the state space. While it turns out that generic $n$-qubit symmetric states are also isolated, we consider particular families for which we can determine to be, on the contrary, endowed with a rich local stabilizer, a necessary requirement for LOCC convertibility to be possible. This allows us to identify classes in which LOCC transformations among permutation-symmetric states are possible. Notwithstanding, we provide several results that indicate severe obstructions to LOCC convertibility in general even within these highly symmetrical classes. In the course of the study of LOCC transformations, we also characterize the local symmetries of symmetric states.

Abstract:In this thesis we study the problem of unambiguously discriminating two mixed quantum states. We first present reduction theorems for optimal unambiguous discrimination of two generic density matrices. We show that this problem can be reduced to that of two density matrices that have the same rank $r$ in a 2$r$-dimensional Hilbert space. These reduction theorems also allow us to reduce USD problems to simpler ones for which the solution might be known. As an application, we consider the unambiguous comparison of $n$ linearly independent pure states with a simple symmetry. Moreover, lower bounds on the optimal failure probability have been derived. For two mixed states they are given in terms of the fidelity. Here we give tighter bounds as well as necessary and sufficient conditions for two mixed states to reach these bounds. We also construct the corresponding optimal measurement. With this result, we provide analytical solutions for unambiguously discriminating a class of generic mixed states. This goes beyond known results which are all reducible to some pure state case. We however show that examples exist where the bounds cannot be reached. Next, we derive properties on the rank and the spectrum of an optimal USD measurement. This finally leads to a second class of exact solutions. Indeed we present the optimal failure probability as well as the optimal measurement for unambiguously discriminating any pair of geometrically uniform mixed states in four dimensions. This class of problems includes for example the discrimination of both the basis and the bit value mixed states in the BB84 QKD protocol with coherent states.

Abstract:Universality of local unitary transformations is one of the cornerstones of quantum computing with many applications and implications that go beyond this field. However, it has recently been shown that this universality does not hold in the presence of continuous symmetries: generic symmetric unitaries on a composite system cannot be implemented, even approximately, using local symmetric unitaries on the subsystems. In this Letter, we show that, despite these constraints, any SU(2) rotationally invariant unitary can be realized with the Heisenberg exchange interaction, which is 2-local and rotationally invariant, provided that the system interacts with a pair of ancilla qubits. We also show that a single ancilla is not enough to achieve universality. Furthermore, we study qubit circuits formed from k -local rotationally invariant unitaries and fully characterize the constraints imposed by locality on the realizable unitaries. Entanglement Classification via Single Entanglement Measure

Abstract:We show that a single polynomial entanglement measure is enough to verify equivalence between generic $n$-qubit states under Stochastic Local Operations with Classical Communication (SLOCC). SLOCC operations may be represented geometrically by Möbius transformations on the roots of the entanglement measure on the Bloch sphere. Moreover, we show how the roots of the 3-tangle measure classify 4-qubit generic states, and propose a method to obtain the normal form of a 4-qubit state which bypasses the possibly infinite iterative procedure.

Classifying Density Matrices of 2 and 3 Qubit States Up To LU Equivalence

Abstract:In this paper we present a modified version of the proof given Jing-Yang-Zhao's paper titled "Local Unitary Equivalence of Quantum States and Simultaneous Orthogonal Equivalence," which established the correspondance between local unitary equivalence and simultaneous orthogonal equivalence of $2$-qubits. Our modified proof utilizes a hypermatrix algebra framework, and through this framework we are able to generalize this correspondence to $3$-qubits. Finally, we apply a generalization of Specht's criterion (first proved in "Specht's Criterion for Systems of Linear Mappings" by V. Futorney, R. A. Horn, and V. V. Sergeichuk) to reduce the problem of local unitary equivalence of $3$-qubits to checking trace identities and a few other easy-to-check properties. We also note that all of these results can be extended to $2$ and $3$ qudits if we relax the notion of LU equivalence to quasi-LU equivalence, as defined in the aforementioned paper by Jing et. al.

Abstract:Many works have been devoted to determining the volume of the set of separable states and the separability probability both analytically and numerically. However, computing the exact separability probability remains a highly nontrivial open problem. In these notes, we examine this problem in the simplest context of two-qubit states. A novel aspect of our method is the use of the Duistermaat-Heckman measure, which is the push-forward of Liouville measure on the coadjoint orbit along the moment map. On each coadjoint orbit, the Hilbert-Schmidt measure differs from the DuistermaatHeckman measure by a constant. The latter measure can be explicitly computed by using tools from symplectic geometry. We confirm the conjecture that the separability probability of two-qubit states with Hilbert-Schmidt measure is 8/33

One sided sequential sharing of tripartite nonlocality for pure and mixed three-qubit states

Abstract:Tripartite nonlocality holds significant theoretical value and has numerous applications in quantum information and computation. With dichotomic measurement settings, several aspects of tripartite nonlocality are identified by violations of the Svetlichny inequality, Mermin inequality, the 46 facet inequalities of Sliwa, and the inequalities established by Bancal et al. Silva et al. explored the concept of nonlocality sharing among multiple copies of a party. This paper focuses on determining the number of observers who can simultaneously share distinct tripartite nonlocal correlations under a one-sided sequential measurement formalism. Specifically, we examine a scenario where three spatially separated parties-Alice, Bob, and multiple Charlies-share three spin- particles. For multiple Charlies, we have identified constraints on (pure state) and p (mixed state), demonstrating the sequential sharing of various forms of tripartite nonlocality with a single Alice and Bob. Notably, under sequential measurement formalism, a non-maximally pure entangled state exhibits the same sharing capacity as a maximally entangled state.

Abstract:Suppose two quantum circuit chips are located at different places, for which we do not have any prior knowledge, and cannot see the internal structures either. In such a situation, a realistic and fundamental problem is to find out whether they have the same functions or not with certainty. In this paper, we show that this problem can be solved completely from the viewpoint of quantum nonlocality. Specifically, we design an elegant protocol that examines underlying quantum nonlocality, where the strongest nonlocality can be observed if and only if two quantum circuits are equivalent to each other. We show that the protocol also works approximately, where the distance between two quantum circuits can be calculated accurately by observing quantum nonlocality in an analytical manner. Furthermore, it turns out that the computational cost of our protocol is independent of the size of compared quantum circuits. Lastly, we also discuss the possibility to generalize the protocol to multipartite cases, i.e., if we do equivalence checking for multiple quantum circuits, we try to solve the problem in one go.
Criteria of absolutely separability from spectrum for qudit-qudits states

Abstract:Separability from the spectrum is a significant and ongoing research topic in quantum entanglement. In this study, we investigate properties related to absolute separability from the spectrum in qudits-qudits states in the bipartite states space $\mathcal{H}_{mn}=\mathcal{H}_m \otimes \mathcal{H}_n$. Firstly, we propose the necessary and sufficient conditions for absolute separable states in the Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}_{4n}$. These conditions are equivalent to the positive semidefiniteness of twelve matrices resulting from the symmetric matricizations of eigenvalues. Furthermore, we demonstrate that this sufficient condition can be extended to the general $\mathcal{H}_{mn}$ case, improving existing conclusions in the literature. These sufficient conditions depend only on the first few leading and last few leading eigenvalues, significantly reducing the complexity of determining absolute separable states. On the other hand, we also introduce additional sufficient conditions for determining that states in $\mathcal{H}_{mn}$ are not absolutely separable. These conditions only depend on $2m-1$ eigenvalues of the mixed states. Our sufficient conditions are not only simple and easy to implement. As applications, we derive distance bounds for eigenvalues and purity bounds for general absolutely separable states.
