Abstract:In order to investigate the impact of light field high-order correlation on the tangential moving target ghost imaging,high order background-subtracted ghost imaging theory can be applied.Some numerical simulations and experiments are carried out,and the relevant simulated images are obtained.In this study of tangential moving targets ghost imaging based on the high-order background-subtracted ghost imaging theory,the results show that the high-order correlation of the light field increases the background fluctuation noise when the reference beam order increases,and the quality of image reconstruction deteriorates.Moreover,the increase of the signal beam order has little effect on the image quality.So the best quality can be obtained by the lowest-order ghost imaging.

Abstract:Ghost imaging is an indirect system that allows the imaging of an object without directly seeing the object. The speckle pattern that contains the information about light and objects has increasingly become a popular topic in pseudothermal light ghost imaging. However, existing research still has encountered problems of poor imaging quality and slow sampling speeds. We propose a ghost imaging method based on N-order speckle patterns to recover the object (NSGI). The N-order speckle patterns combine N independent laser speckles individually produced by passing an expanded and collimated He-Ne laser through a digital micro-mirror device (DMD). The sampling frequency can be improved by controlling the trigger signals of different DMDs. The results of the simulation and experiment have verified that our method can increase sampling speed and reconstruction accuracy. In addition, NSGI can be applied to more applications by designing multiple independent speckles with different properties. (C) 2018 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE).

Abstract:In order to improve the imaging quality of ghost imaging and solve the problem of high distortion at a low sampling rate, the compressive sensing ghost imaging based on image gradient (IGGI) is proposed. The image gradient can reflect the changes of optical characteristics and carry the edge information of object. In this paper, the principle of compressive sensing ghost imaging is analyzed. And the total variation, the integral of image gradient, is used to optimize the reconstruction process. Simultaneously, the threshold of matching degree is set up to reduce computation load and improve imaging speed. The results of simulation and experiments show that compared with traditional ghost imaging, the IGGI can achieve high-quality images and obtain the edge information of targets at a low sampling rate, which further facilitate the practical application of ghost imaging.

Abstract:Ghost imaging (GI) is a potential imaging technique that reconstructs the target scene from its correlated measurements with a sequential of patterns. Restricted by the multi-shot principle, GI usually requires long acquisition time and is limited in observation of dynamic scenes. To handle this problem, this paper proposes a single-shot thermal ghost imaging scheme via wavelength-division multiplexing technique. Specifically, we generate thousands of patterns simultaneously by modulating a broadband light source with a wavelength dependent diffuser. These patterns carry the scene's spatial information and then the correlated measurements are coupled into a spectrometer for the final reconstruction. This technique accelerates the ghost imaging speed significantly and promotes the applications in dynamic ghost imaging.

Abstract:We experimentally demonstrate a novel ghost imaging experiment utilizing a classical light source,capable of resolving objects with a high visibility.The experimental results show that our scheme can indeed realize ghost imaging with high visibility for a relatively complicated object composed of three near-ellipse-shaped holes with different dimensions.In our experiment,the largest hole is ~36 times of the smallest one in area.Each of the three holes exhibits high-visibility in excess of 80%.The high visibility and high spatial-resolution advantages of this technique could have applications in remote sensing.

Abstract:Here, a novel kind of encoding ghost imaging (EGI) method is proposed to acquire high-quality images and diffraction patterns of an unknown object without calculating reference information. By carefully considering the correlation process of thermal ghost imaging (GI) experiments, the essence of the GI system with different kinds of sources is described with a unified interpretation, which can be understood as different kinds of series decomposition of the object function in the space expanded by a set of mode functions. Inspired by this idea of series decomposition, a series of sinusoidal encoding sources are elaborately designed to realize the EGI proposal without the requirement of the reference information obtained experimentally or computationally. Compared with the computational ghost imaging (CGI) scheme using the same source, the EGI proposal can improve the image quality significantly, reduce the computational burden noticeably, and obtain the image and diffraction pattern of the object simultaneously. Therefore, our work deepens the understanding for the GI nature and offers another way to improve the GI performances, which is very helpful for GI real applications in micro-imaging, diffraction imaging and lithography machine.

Abstract:Both ghost imaging (GI) and ghost imaging via compressive sampling (GICS) can nonlocally image an object. We report the influence of spatial transverse coherence property of a thermal source on GI and GICS and show that, using the same acquisition numbers, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of images recovered by GI will be reduced while the quality of reconstructed images will be enhanced for GICS as the spatial transverse coherence lengths located on the object plane are decreased. Differences between GI and GICS, methods to further improve the quality and image extraction efficiency of GICS, and its potential applications are also discussed.

Abstract:How can a target’s differential image of multiple components at a certain degree of freedom (DOF) of light (e.g., wavelength, polarization, and position) be obtained? Previous schemes often need two steps, i.e., first collecting each component of the target simultaneously with multiple detectors or sequentially with a single detector, then performing the difference operation in the digital postprocessing. Based on the principle of computational ghost imaging (GI), we here take advantage of the natural complementarity in space to design an illumination mode, which is no longer the spatiotemporal fluctuation of photon number (light intensity) but the photons with different components under the same DOF. By applying this engineered illumination to computational GI, termed ghost difference imaging (GDI), we can achieve differential imaging of multiple components of a certain DOF in a single-round acquisition using only one single-pixel detector with no extra digital-subtraction operations but higher SNR. Both multiwavelength-difference GDI and position-difference GDI are well demonstrated in simulations and experiments. Further, the GDI scheme reduces the number of sampling times for differential imaging while also increasing photons’ utilization. Our work, therefore, provides an insight for GI modality, along with a straightforward and low-cost update of the light path, which is suitable for all computational GI systems using the digital micromirror device.

Abstract:Imaging through strong scattering media is still one of the difficult challenges in the optical imaging field since the intensity information of target objects can be severely destroyed and heavily reduced by scatterers. The ghost imaging technique only using a single-pixel detector offers compelling advantages for detecting such weak signals. Here we propose a novel kind of imaging proposal, named asynchronous computational ghost imaging (ACGI), which is capable of capturing the ghost image of an unknown object by using the asynchronous detection. The theoretical explanation and experimental examples are given to show the influence of parameters of the asynchronous detection on the image quality of the ACGI system. To improve the image quality, we introduce a kind of algorithm based on compressed sensing into the ACGI system, where sharp ghost images can be reconstructed with much fewer measurements. More importantly, we experimentally investigate the robustness of the ACGI system through strong scattering media and the ghost image can still be reconstructed by means of the asynchronous detection. Our work offers a new way to realize ghost imaging through strong scattering media in the asynchronous detection way, where the requirement of the synchronous detection in the time and intensity aspects can be largely reduced, which may be very useful for real applications of ghost imaging in X-ray or weak light environments.

Abstract:Ghost imaging (GI) lidar, as a novel remote sensing technique, has been receiving increasing interest in recent years. By combining pulse-compression technique and coherent detection with GI, we propose a new lidar system called pulse-compression GI lidar. Our analytical results, which are backed up by numerical simulations, demonstrate that pulse-compression GI lidar can obtain the target's spatial intensity distribution, range and moving velocity. Compared with conventional pulsed GI lidar system, pulse-compression GI lidar, without decreasing the range resolution, is easy to obtain high single pulse energy with the use of a long pulse, and the mechanism of coherent detection can eliminate the influence of the stray light, which is helpful to improve the detection sensitivity and detection range.

Abstract: A simple and robust experiment demonstrating computational ghost imaging with structured illumination and a single-pixel detector has been performed. Our experimental setup utilizes a general computer for generating pseudo-randomly patterns on the liquid crystal display screen to illuminate a partially-transmissive object. With an incoherent light source, this object is imaged. The effects of light source, light path, and the number of measurements on the reconstruction quality of the object are discussed both theoretically and experimentally. The realization of computational ghost imaging with computer liquid crystal display is a further setup toward the practical application of ghost imaging with ordinary incoherent light.

Abstract:The underwater environment is extremely complex and variable, which makes it difficult for underwater robots detecting or recognizing surroundings using images acquired with cameras. Ghost imaging as a new imaging technique has attracted much attention due to its special physical properties and potential for imaging of objects in optically harsh or noisy environments. In this work, we experimentally study three categories of image reconstruction methods of ghost imaging for objects of different transmittance. For high-transmittance objects, the differential ghost imaging is more efficient than traditional ghost imaging. However, for low-transmittance objects, the reconstructed images using traditional ghost imaging and differential ghost imaging algorithms are both exceedingly blurred and cannot be improved by increasing the number of measurements. A compressive sensing method named augmented Lagrangian and alternating direction algorithm (TVAL3) is proposed to reduce the background noise imposed by the low-transmittance. Experimental results show that compressive ghost imaging can dramatically subtract the background noise and enhance the contrast of the image. The relationship between the quality of the reconstructed image and the complexity of object itself is also discussed.

Abstract:Experimental data with digital masks and a theoretical analysis are presented for an imaging scheme that we call time-correspondence differential ghost imaging (TCDGI). It is shown that by conditional averaging of the information from the reference detector but with the negative signals inverted, the quality of the reconstructed images is in general superior to all other ghost imaging (GI) methods to date. The advantages of both differential GI and time-correspondence GI are combined, plus less data manipulation and shorter computation time are required to obtain equivalent quality images under the same conditions. This TCDGI method offers a general approach applicable to all GI techniques, especially when objects with continuous gray tones are involved.

Abstract:Ghost imaging (GI) has attracted the attention of researchers due to the characteristics of nonlocal imaging and strong anti-interference ability, but obtaining high-quality images needs a large number of samples, leading to the long imaging time. A Gerchberg Saxton-like (GS-like) algorithm is proposed for achieving Fourier iteration GI, which can obtain high-quality reconstructed results under low sampling rate and reduce imaging time significantly. In GS-like algorithm, a portion of the Fourier spectrum and the actual bucket detector values obtained through Fourier GI (FGI) are used as initial constraints ensuring obtaining high-quality image under low sampling rate. Then use the reconstructed image to obtain the phase image of the target object by Gerchberg Saxton (GS) algorithm. The proposed method is verified through the experiment, with the low sampling rate of 0.03 and 0.09 while peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and correlation coefficient (CC) are 18.8, 27.8 dB and 0.91, 0.94, respectively, proving to be superior to the traditional GI methods.

Abstract:We report a different class of ghosts, called ghost diffraction and transmission with compressed spectrum coefficients, for ghost (e.g., analog-signal) transmission in free space through scattering media using a single-pixel detector. The ghost, e.g., analog signal, is first transformed to its spectral domain, such as Hadamard domain. The generated Hadamard spectrum coefficients can be flexibly compressed in order to reduce the number of random patterns to be illuminated and transmitted in free space, and the selected Hadamard spectrum coefficients are sequentially encoded into random amplitude-only patterns as information carriers. In the experiments, high-quality Hadamard spectrum transmission using a coherent light source is realized in different scattering environments, and, subsequently, high-fidelity ghosts are further retrieved from the received Hadamard spectrum coefficients. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method possesses high robustness against wave diffraction, multi-layer scattering, and noise. This class of ghosts provides a different insight about quantum and classical optics for analog-signal transmission in free space, and an avenue toward many applications, e.g., quantum ghost transmission and communication, could be opened up.

Abstract:Ghost imaging (GI), as a computational imaging technology, can staringly obtain the target's image by computing the second-order correlation function between the intensity of modulation field and the target's echo signal recorded by a single-pixel detector. Since GI with classical light source was experimentally demonstrated, GI Lidar has been considered to be one of the best application prospects in GI direction and become a research hotspot. With in-depth study and development on GI Lidar in recent years, GI Lidar has achieved significant progress and is expected to be applied in the near future. In this paper, we try to sketch the basic principles and superiorities of two kinds of GI Lidar. Next, with respect to the application of long-range, high-resolution, and high-speed moving target detection and recognition, we introduce the development progress of narrow-pulsed GI Lidar and long-pulsed GI Lidar via heterodyne detection. Finally, the key problems and prospect of GI Lidar are also discussed.
