Abstract:In this work, we propose to study noncommutative geometry using the language of categories of sheaves of algebras with polynomial identities and their properties, introducing new (graded) noncommutative geometries, which include, for example, the following algebras: superalgebras, $\mathbb{Z}_2^n$-graded superalgebras, Azumaya algebras, Clifford and quaternion algebras, the algebra of upper triangular matrices, quantum groups at roots of unity, and also some NC-schemes. More precisely, fix a group $G$, a $G$-graded associative algebra $A$ over a field $F$ of characteristic 0 and a topological space $X$; we construct a locally $G$-graded ringed space structure on $X$, where the sheaf structure belongs to the $G$-graded variety $\text{G-var}(A)$ of algebras generated by $A$, which classify all geometric spaces that belong to $\text{G-var}(A)$. We study conditions to compare two geometries in a (graded) Morita context, as well as their corresponding differential calculi.

Abstract:The works of R. Descartes, I. M. Gelfand and A. Grothendieck have convinced us that commutative rings should be thought of as rings of functions on some appropriate (commutative) spaces. If we try to push this notion forward we reach the realm of Non-commutative Geometry. The confluence of ideas comes here mainly from three seemingly disparate sources, namely, quantum physics, operator algebras (Connes-style) and algebraic geometry. Following the title of the article, an effort has been made to provide an overview of the third point of view. Since na\" ive efforts to generalize commutative algebraic geometry fail, one goes to the root of the problem and tries to work things out "categorically". This makes the approach a little bit abstract but not abstruse. However, an honest confession must be made at the outset - this write-up is very far from being definitive; hopefully it will provide glimpses of some interesting developments at least.

Quantum point contact with large localized spin: fractional quantization of the ballistic conductance

Abstract:We analyze the conductance of the quantum point contact containing large localized spin J. The additional plateau is formed on a ballistic conductance staircase if only one propagating channel is rendered conducting. The conductance value at this plateau is shown to depend strongly on J and decrease from 3e^2/2h to e^2/h when J increases from 1/2 to infinity, which is in a good agreement with the experimental observations [D.J. Reilly, et al, Phys. Rev. B 63, 121311 (2001)].

Abstract:After an introduction to some basic issues in non-commutative geometry (Gel'fand duality, spectral triples), we present a "panoramic view" of the status of our current research program on the use of categorical methods in the setting of <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://A.Connes" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>' non-commutative geometry: morphisms/categories of spectral triples, categorification of Gel'fand duality. We conclude with a summary of the expected applications of "categorical non-commutative geometry" to structural questions in relativistic quantum physics: (hyper)covariance, quantum space-time, (algebraic) quantum gravity.

Algebras Associated to Inverse Systems of Projective Schemes

Abstract:Artin, Tate and Van den Bergh initiated the field of noncommutative projective algebraic geometry by fruitfully studying geometric data associated to noncommutative graded algebras. More specifically, given a field $\mathbb K$ and a graded $\mathbb K$-algebra $A$, they defined an inverse system of projective schemes $\Upsilon_A = \{{\Upsilon_d(A)}\}$. This system affords an algebra, $\mathbf B(\Upsilon_A)$, built out of global sections, and a $\mathbb K$-algebra morphism $\tau: A \to \mathbf B(\Upsilon_A)$. We study and extend this construction. We define, for any natural number $n$, a category ${\tt PSys}^n$ of projective systems of schemes and a contravariant functor $\mathbf B$ from ${\tt PSys}^n$ to the category of associative $\mathbb K$-algebras. We realize the schemes ${\Upsilon_d(A)}$ as ${\rm Proj \ } {\mathbf U}_d(A)$, where ${\mathbf U}_d$ is a functor from associative algebras to commutative algebras. We characterize when the morphism $\tau: A \to \mathbf B(\Upsilon_A)$ is injective or surjective in terms of local cohomology modules of the ${\mathbf U}_d(A)$. Motivated by work of Walton, when $\Upsilon_A$ consists of well-behaved schemes, we prove a geometric result that computes the Hilbert series of $\mathbf B(\Upsilon_A)$. We provide many detailed examples that illustrate our results. For example, we prove that for some non-AS-regular algebras constructed as twisted tensor products of polynomial rings, $\tau$ is surjective or an isomorphism.

Abstract:The usual dictionary between geometry and commutative algebra is not appropriate for Arithmetic geometry because addition is a singular operation at the "Real prime". We replace Rings, with addition and multiplication, by Props (=strict symmetric monoidal category generated by one object), or by Bioperad (=two closed symmetric operads acting on each other): to a ring we associate the prop of all matrices over it, with matrix multiplication and block direct sums as the basic operations, or the bioperad consisting of all raw and column vectors over it. We define the "commutative" props and bioperads, and using them we develop a generalized algebraic geometry, following Grothendieck footsteps closely. This new geometry is appropriate for Arithmetic (and potentially also for Physics).

Abstract:Inspired by the commutator and anticommutator algebras derived from algebras graded by groups, we introduce noncommutatively graded algebras. We generalize various classical graded results to the noncommutatively graded situation concerning identity elements, inverses, existence of limits and colimits and adjointness of certain functors. In the particular instance of noncommutatively graded Lie algebras, we establish the existence of universal graded enveloping algebras and we show a graded version of the Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt theorem.

Abstract:We apply ourselves to the noncommutative geometry of frame bundles by showing that each C$^*$-algebraic noncommutative principal $\mathrm{SO}(n)$-bundle is, up to isomorphism, uniquely determined by its associated noncommutative vector bundle with respect to the standard representation of $\mathrm{SO}(n)$. For this, we provide a construction procedure, via unitary tensor functors, that for a certain type of correspondence, let's say $M$, attaches a free C$^*$-dynamical system $(\mathcal{A}_M,\mathrm{SO}(n),\alpha_M)$ with the property that its associated noncommutative vector bundle with respect to the standard representation of $\mathrm{SO}(n)$ is isomorphic to $M$.

Abstract:This article, addressed to a general audience of functional analysts, is intended to be an illustration of a few basic principles from `noncommutative functional analysis', more specifically the new field of {\em operator spaces.} In our illustration we show how the classical characterization of (possibly non-surjective) isometries between function algebras generalizes to operator algebras. We give some variants of this characterization, and a new proof which has some advantages.

Abstract:We shall describe a simple generalization of commutative rings. The category GR of such "rings", contains the ordinary commutative rings (fully faithfully), but also the "integers" and "residue field" at a real or complex place of a field ; the "field with one element" (the initial object of GR ); the "arithmetical surface" ( the sum in the category GR of the integers with them self: Z(x)Z ) . We shall show that this geometry "see" the real and complex places of a number field (there is an Ostrowski theorem that the valuation sub-GR of a number field correspond to the finite and infinite primes; there is a compactification of the spectrum of the integers ). One can develop algebraic geometry using GR following Grothendieck paradigm . Quillen's homotopical algebra replaces homological algebra . There is an analogue of Quillen's cotangent bundle - in particular there is a theory of non-additive derivations, with modules of Kahler differentials which satisfy all the usual exact sequences - we compute explicitly the differentials of the integers Z over the initial object F1 . Finally we associate with any topological compact valuation GR a meromorphic function - its "zeta" : for the p-adic integers we get the p-local factor of zeta, for the "real integers" we get the gamma factor.

Functorial languages in homological algebra and the lower central series

Abstract:This approach is based on the idea used to construct the so-called ${\bf fr}$-language. We construct such functorial languages as the ${\bf fr_{\infty}}$-language and other versions of it on categories of groups using the lower central series of groups of relations. In addition, we compute higher limits of the coinvariants of exterior powers, free Lie powers of modules of relations associated to free representations of groups. We show that such ${\bf fr_{\infty}}$-languages have remarkable properties when restricted to groups of finite homological dimension, torsion-free groups, and groups having no torsion up to $n$. Finally, we show how one can use functorial languages to transform categories/varieties of groups into certain spectra, which we call flux-spectra.

Advances in Applied Clifford Algebras

Abstract:Using the syzygy method, established in our earlier paper (Krasnov and Tkachev, Honor of Wolfgang SprßigTrends Math, Birkhäuser/Springer Basel AG, Basel, 2018), we characterize the combinatorial stratification of the variety of two-dimensional real generic algebras. We show that there exist exactly three different homotopic types of such algebras and relate this result to potential applications and known facts from qualitative theory of quadratic ODEs. The genericity condition is crucial. For example, the idempotent geometry in Clifford algebras or Jordan algebras of Clifford type is very different: such algebras always contain nontrivial submanifolds of idempotents.

Abstract:We develop a mathematical concept towards gauge field theories based upon a Hilbert space endowed with a representation of a skew-adjoint Lie algebra and an action of a generalized Dirac operator. This concept shares common features with the non-commutative geometry a la Connes/Lott, differs from that, however, by the implementation of skew-adjoint Lie algebras instead of unital associative *-algebras. We present the physical motivation for our approach and sketch its mathematical strategy. Moreover, we comment on the application of our method to the standard model and the flipped SU(5) x U(1)-grand unification model.

Noncommutative Riemannian geometry of Kronecker algebras

Abstract:We study aspects of noncommutative Riemannian geometry of the path algebra arising from the Kronecker quiver with N arrows. To start with, the framework of derivation based differential calculi is recalled together with a discussion on metrics and bimodule connections compatible with the *-structure of the algebra. As an illustration, these concepts are applied to the noncommutative torus where examples of torsion free and metric (Levi-Civita) connections are given. In the main part of the paper, noncommutative geometric aspects of (generalized) Kronecker algebras are considered. The structure of derivations and differential calculi is explored, and torsion free bimodule connections are studied together with their compatibility with hermitian forms, playing the role of metrics on the module of differential forms. Moreover, for several different choices of Lie algebras of derivations, non-trivial Levi-Civita connections are constructed.

Noncommutative geometry of elliptic surfaces

Abstract:We recast elliptic surfaces over the projective line in terms of the non-commutative tori and one-parameter families of the periodic continued fractions. The correspondence is used to study the Picard numbers, the ranks and the minimal models of such surfaces. As an example, we calculate the Picard numbers of elliptic surfaces with fibers having complex multiplication.

Abstract:Locality is implemented in an arbitrary category using Grothendieck topologies. We explore how different Grothendieck topologies on one category can be related, and, more general, how functors between categories can preserve them. As applications of locality, we review geometric objects such as sheaves, groupoids, functors, bibundles, and anafunctors internal to an arbitrary Grothendieck site. We give definitions such that all these objects are invariant under equivalences of Grothendieck topologies and certain functors between sites. As examples of sites, we look at categories of smooth manifolds, diffeological spaces, topological spaces, and sheaves, and we study properties of various functors between those.

Abstract:This paper is a very brief and gentle introduction to non-commutative geometry geared primarily towards physicists and geometers. It starts with a brief historical description of the motivation for non-commutative geometry and then goes on to motivate the subject from the point of view of the the understanding of local symmetries affordee by the theory of groupoids.
